I think in the battles there should be some reason to use 1 attack over the others. I think an extra variable like processing power might be interesting where a higher damage attack uses more processing power thereby giving incentive to occasionally ping rather than just torrential email.
You read my mind. I originally considered including a "line" category, but it made things too complicated (for users and for me to program) maybe in a future update?
In a shout, please tell me how you played the game to get to this error. (Like, one runthrough vs. start, and pick up at a later time). I don't know why this is happening and need info to find the bug. thanks

Some errors in Basic Math:
• The compiler does not run the program
• i-- is called _decrementing_ i, not incrementing

The only problem: i submited wrong answer in tutorial 1 too much (you asked me to do dis lol), so when i needed to get hint, i ragequited. Fix please.

Phaytle: // is two symbols
Phaytle: and */ is two symbols
Phaytle: so if asked the questions what is the SYMBOL at the beginning of a comment, "/" is the correct answer, not "//"
Phaytle: and when asked the question what is the SYMBOL at the end of a comment, the correct answer is "/", not "*/"
Phaytle: unless there is a special programming keyboard somewhere that contains both of those characters on one key, then I could see // and */ being called -A- symbol.

Wow, I loved it, i have always thought of coding and how difficult it would be however your really break it down into easy steps to follow, with a little humor thrown in.

Hey Gregory, I just want to say that I'm loving your game so far, and I really hope I can get to use all the things I'm learning :) Also, I just noticed a slight mistake in the elite training in "Building a Tip Calculator part 1" in part 3, where you don't specify which type of variable to use, making it a bit frustrating before I figured it out. Also, this is my first time relogging into the game, and I had to re-choose my character and I had lost about 70 lvls, from 75 to 5. I also had to redo the first Rite of Passage, but my progress in the elite training was the same as before.

i think i am blind, kinda am, but i cant seem to find the next training area after finishing the basic RoP. When i click on the Tower at the end of basic, i see: the town, mountains, a volcano, the sun, and the back button that takes me to the basic training area.

In part 5/9 of concatenation, there's an extra double quote(") after stringTwo, right before the semicolon(;). You might want to remove it as it might confuse people.
4 private var stringFour:String = stringOne + " " + stringTwo ";

An excellent game! Very easy to understand and it was broken down into levels very nicely! A great game for learning ActionScript 3 or any basics for coding. I can't wait for the next version!

5*
Love the concept. I have some knowledge about programming already and instead of trying to teach a couple people I know, I'm sending a link of this game to them. This will grab their attention much quicker and they retain things from enjoyable learning better. I shall keep following this game as it develops as well. Much love to you and this game for filling a void in between an actual game and all those dry tutorials.

Neat little game, be interesting if you make a sequel someday and add a full text box(multiple lines) with parsing to act as a simple interpreter.

Tip calculator (the first one) part 3 doesn't tell you that you need to make salesTax a Number, and Number isn't capitalized in part 5.

Just finished this version and all i can say to you sir is Bravo!! Although it can seem complicated you explained it very well and it was easy to follow and I was flying through it without a problem towards the end do to your explanations. If i could rate more than 5 stars I definitely would and this has reassured my decision of getting a degree in Computer Science and Programming. Please keep doing what your doing and finish this game all the way to the end!

Part 5/9 Concatenation
If you forget to put spaces at the end of your sentences, there is another way you can add spaces in between two strings. Check out the code below.
1 private var stringOne:String = "Hello, my name";
2 private var stringTwo:String = "is Gregory Carlson";
3 private var stringThree:String = stringOne + stringTwo;
Right now, stringThree will read:
Hello, my nameis Gregory Carlson.
Kind of annoying since there is no space between name and is. But watch what I do when I create stringFour:
4 private var stringFour:String = stringOne + " " + stringTwo ";
Is that third " supposed to be there?
private var stringFour:String = stringOne + " " + stringTwo ?"?;

ALSO! Elite section two? part 5/9 has a syntax error where you close a parentheses after calling the variable string two in the bottom half of the text block

Amazing Game! I even sent the link to my teacher who is... well teaching us HTML 5 right now... He is just learning to code too lol... its a new class. I learned a lot. Especially how to actually use Boolean values and all that. Microsoft Visual Studios C# didnt even teach me as much as you have lol

I already knew how to program before starting this game but I STILL love it even though I knew all the answers! I recommended this game to my little brother who has wanted to learn to program for a while now. I think this is the perfect way for him to learn because not only does it teach basic programming extremely well, it is also fun which makes it much easier to learn. Great job and I can't wait for the update!

i would like the arena to be more like making programs and less like having the last weapown avalible. What about some kind of puzzles? where you have to drag some lines into the correct order for the program to work. You can still need some items to see the full lines but yeah... something a lit less generic for the arena :) Good game so far i will give you a whopping 4/5 since you are so active on it. hope to see more updates ;)

I resume the game, it remembers which levels I played, and all my upgrades, but loses my computer and levels... Re-playing levels for lower rewards sounds tedious...
That's weird. I'll look into that. I hope that the problem isn't related to me releasing updates. I might not be able to help you an individual basis though. Sorry.

Actually- this concept could make a really cool MMO where the more you learn/know the higher level your character will be and the more stuff they'll have. Hell- I can picture a school doing something like this for classes.

I actually really like this way of learning. @DEV: I think it would be really cool if you could buy a house/car/etc with your money as you become a better programmer in-game! That would be cool.

This may have come to your attention but i have found a bug in the game possibly. After buying the Anti-Virus software it lets me upgrade it and the price to upgrade increases the more i hit plus but even though the upgrading price increases, the anti-virus strength remains at 0.

This touches on some really good concepts, yet is simple enough that a kid could follow it. You could write something similar with more diverse characterization and more advanced concepts, and release it as full-on educational software.
Possible features:
LAN Arena so the kids can fight each other.
Internet Arena, customizable by the instructor.
Reward Animations for doing a good job or Arena victories (In 3D!)
BGM of some sort.
But whatever you do, have fun.

I enjoyed playing through your game! You have a knack for explaining things and I hope you do continue with this game.

There is a curious bug (though I fully exepcted it, lol) where when the game asks you to do something to ThisOneVariable you can operate with " This One Variable" and still pass the test (naturally that's not something AS3 would let you get away with)

No I have zero rage quits. It even says so on the statistics page...I'm currently at 339 sections out of 350 by the way.

Hi Gregory. Awesome game! I've been coding for a while now (not that much ActionScript though), but even though I found them a bit easy, I still played till the end. Keep up the good work! Crossing fingers for some more advanced lessons soon.

I completed every area, yet the game says I have not completed all sections. Am I just missing something or is there something actually wrong?
