Under rating threshold (show) Nice game. Btw, stucksnet is actually stuxnet. I don't know if this was intentional or not.

Under rating threshold (show) Fantastic way to learn the basics =D would also be great to implement down/uploading savefiles manually. When this game gets biggerover time, I don't think my cache will store data that long. But all in all: 5/5

Under rating threshold (show) this is pretty fun to play as a beginning programmer. i have some experience in python and most of the stuff you talk about (at least in the first part) seems very clear and helpful. i really feel like after this i would be ready to make something in flash.

Under rating threshold (show) You should pick a punctuation standard AND STICK TO IT. I've lost life because I forgot to put a period after a sentence. And yet several times there are sentences without periods ending them.

+ - !

(2)

Developer response from GregoryCarlson

That's a good idea. You can tell that I go through several drafts over several weeks, and it's not always consistent. I'll standardize everything in the next update. Thanks for the feedback.

Under rating threshold (show) This "game" is amazing. I have some very small background in programming, having learned BASIC a long long time ago and then moving on to doing a little bit in Visual Basic. What you have so far was fairly easy for me because of that but was a great refresher and neat to learn the newer syntax. Please please please continue this. It was a lot of fun.

Under rating threshold (show) @Shaakrahin Yes, the semi-colon is technically optional, however MANY languages DO require you to use semi-colons no matter what, and it's just more easy to read if you do. Semi-colons are also required if you plan to put two statements on a single line, so basically, if you want to look more official, plan on learning another language or plan on putting more than one statement on a single line, then using semi-colons is suggested. You're right about the += thing, it never said it was wrong, it just never accepted it as an answer, probably just an over-look in the making of the game, or just laziness.

Under rating threshold (show) Teaches you wrong things. myNumber = myNumber + 100 is equivalent to myNumber += 100, but it won't accept it. Also, in actionscript, the semicolon can be omitted. Too much bullshit overall for me. I won't rate, though, because my opinion as a programmer is biased.

Under rating threshold (show) /*Hey Gregory! Happy belated Halloween! I Just finished the game. So cool. I've been playing flash games probably for the past 10 years, and I'm in my twenties. I've always wondered who makes these games and how they do it. It's always been so interesting to me. I started using CodeCademy recently and had some issues learning there, although it is an amazing and important site. However, I finished your game in two or so days wanting to come back to it, and my sleepiness caught up with me. I do want to be able to code more efficiently and learn the other elements of AS3 to create games. I'm sure you're working hard to code more levels and stuff, and I can't wait to learn more AS3. Thanks. */

Under rating threshold (show) and a second thought about the comment regarding the last rite of passed page 7, the syntax 1 if (enemyHealth = 0) { 2 enemyDies(); 3 } the (enemyHealth = 0) is not an operation that will change the value of a variable, the parenthisies used in this way after IF, simply checks if the conditionals placed on the values of the variables is either true or false, when coding the conditional as "=" insted of "==" you are actually causing a syntax error

+ - !

(2)

Developer response from GregoryCarlson

I'll check that. Thanks for your comments.

Under rating threshold (show) In the elite rite of passage part 11/15 there is a mistake in the multiple choice question. The answer is D but the statement it gives is a repeat of the statement from A. It should be trace(variableTwo + variableThree)... or whatever the actual variable names were.

Under rating threshold (show) I have some bugs. The first one is that "sections complete" says 353/350. And i defeated all the enemies in both arenas saved the game and no "surprise" came up. :/

+ - !

(1)

Developer response from GregoryCarlson

I am updating the achievement system. Don't worry, in the update, you should be able to see the "surprise" even though you somehow completed extra sections. I'll warn you though, execute function lowerExpectations(); ;)

Under rating threshold (show) Hi Gregory! Question: In Part 4/9 Building a Tip Calculator Part 2, shouldn't the tip be 1.08 rather than 0.08 in order to get 48.6? Because 0.08*45 = 3.6 whereas 1.08*45 = 48.6 Thank for this game btw. I've been playing it section by section for the past 3 days and am delighted at how much you have taught me in such a short time.

+ - !

(3)

Developer response from GregoryCarlson

thanks. it should be 0.08 because remember, (I'm not looking at the code) but I think I remember it should be totalBill + tip*totalBill, in which case, the tip should be .08

Under rating threshold (show) Excellent Game! I am not much of a programmer, as I only did a few programs going on 15 years ago. I did find much of this quite helpful to remember what's going on and to learn the syntax of Actionscript 3. I had usually a much easier time with the answers that involved coding than with retyping your messages. I often didn't see the punctuation especially at first! Please keep going, it looks like your upcoming maps have stuff that I didn't cover my 1 class.

(75)

Developer response from GregoryCarlson

"Like a true programmer." That's the idea. The other thing I like about that is if you copy code without *really* understanding it (in this case, reading it), and if it causes bugs, it takes a TON of time to fix. LIKE A TRUE PROGRAMMER! (speaking from personal experience).
