Part 4/8 For Loop Syntax: I thought that the loop will end if the condition (2nd statement) is false. So why is "for (i = 0 ; i = 5 ; i ++)" looping six times? i mean i = 5 is false if we start with i = 0 ... Does the condition have to be true first before it can reach the "Break Point" ? Sry for bad english =)

Loop Lava Land part 8/16: Tell us that it's a for loop. I tried about 20 times to write a while loop, tried precrementing, postcrementing, ...

For Loop Syntax part 4 is an infinite loop. You need to have i===5 instead of i=5. Otherwise, it will set i to 5 every time then increment to six, then set i to 5, then increment to six,...

Dear everyone,
If you're like me and you think the update didn't work, check the maps. @Gregory it would be nice if you could display the location with a sort of a lock symbol and tell us when we click on it that we need to buy the map.

Part 3/10 Using the loop index
Declare a variable named statArray of type array.
Shouldn't it be type Array? Did you do it in purpose or is it a typo?

You said that this is an unlocked version...
The fact that I can not skip levels, even not go to the elite training zone without finishing the training zone, determined that your statement shall return the value of false...
Plz fix dis!
The new version I just uploaded should also unlock the elite training zone now. With the way my level system works, I am not sure how to unlock each individual level without writing quite a few lines of code. I'll think about it.

Also, Loop Lavaland 8/16 is confusing. The variable i is already assigned by a value, and by using a for loop with initialization i=0 it's redundant.

I don't think for(var i:uint=0;i=7;i++){ would ever work at all. That i=7 should be i<=7, I think? (Loop Lavaland Rite of Passage, 3/16) There are several instances of the identical mistake too, according to my memory.
I hate to admit it, but I think you might be right and I might be wrong. I will review these lessons tomorrow and correct them as necessary. As you guessed, I was trying to show how NOT to do it, and I might have made some mistakes. Thank you so much for all of your feedback.

Hi Greg,
I would very much like to use your tutorial to help teach students in my school board some coding basics and specifically how to code in flash. Unfortunately my board has blocked the website kongregate for obvious reasons. Is there any way for me to use this tutorial/game of yours outside of kongregate, as I really feel the kids in my board would benefit from what you've created.

Glad to hear you are still working on it gregory, i was starting to get worried :3. i dont expect you to pump out a new update every 2 weeks or so but i just hadn't heard any news about it in a while.

Btw, I found a typo: Function Basics, Chapter 3, Level 2/11:
The hint says the words start with p and v, but they have to be p and f.

There is one question I have. I've started reading the AS3-Tutorial from Adobe (don't worry, your game is awesome and I will keep reading your tutorial), but it doesn't say anything about the "private" when declaring a variable. It just says you need to write var varName:Type = value;
Well, this confuses me. Why do you use "private" in your tutorial?
If you are writing code in the timeline (which I don't recommend) then you only use var. Also, if you are writing local variables, like in functions, then you use var. We are going to use object oriented programming though (OOP) and that means our code will be in different classes. We make the variables private to prevent them from interfering with each other. Variables shared between different objects/classes are public, or protected, or static. Hope that helps. :)

It's January 4, WHERE IS THE UPDATE!?!??!?! So, due to family obligations, I need an extra 2 days to code the update. It should be here on January 6. When it is released, I'll send out a game message so that you don't have to keep checking back. Stay tuned and thanks for your patience!!! :)

You forgot an "i" in whitespace part 3/7 Strings Elite Training thought id point that out while I give you 5 stars because I now know how to fix it. (Never knew any of this stuff) thanks for the knowledge GregoryCalson your a great teacher.

david_radu: Before Gregory implemented this pretty health counter, the only way to check if you are close to ragequitting was to click it and think "Does it look like a very, very angry alien or can I play one more level before buying health restore?" :)

I didn't think this game could get any more awesome than it was. I was wrong.
Too bad I can't do much more than my earlier 5/5 and fav, so I think I'll place it in my playlist and finally start making a game. Now all I need is an art making RPG xD

A bit scary for me the 1st time, because i had 1 health and i saw the guy hlaf-dead xD

pfuu man and somebody else got this problem as well , Gregory I know u wanted us to make our first program but as how English is not my main language I find it hard to understand all that Math with Tip Calculator.
So right now I am stucked at 4/9 tip Calculator Part 2 , someone help pls if u made it
The answer to that section is: totalBill+=tip*totalBill; Within a few months, after I have developed more of the game, I hope to recruit some translators so that we can make the game in many different languages. Thanks for playing and stay tuned!

I don't think its a problem that u can copy paste some of the answers. That made me wonder how do u make it so things can't be copied? is that in the programming or is that something else?
yep. when you program in flash, you can make a textfield be "selectable" or not "selectable." I chose the latter in case anyone wanted to copy and paste the text into notes.

Excellent game so far, one thing I'd suggest though is making it so you can tell if you beat a level without a mistake. Like maybe you'll have a gold medal on it or something. I plan on perfecting this game before programming, so it'd be nice if you created a way to keep track. Anyway, thank you so much for creating this.
