Great game! Definitely good for those who may not be familiar with programming at all. You could be on to something here. I'm sure other languages and scripts could benefit from a very "hand-holding" game such as this. That's not meant as a stab, it's actually meant as a compliment. I do believe that most people who approach programming gets scared of big terminology and logic, and you break it down very simply. Bravo and keep up the great work. I look forward to seeing the game completed!

"What symbol is used to make a single line comment?" is confusing. The answer could be thought to be "/" since a symbol is singular. "//" is a pair of symbols. This misleading mistake occurred several times.
errrrm, gonna disagree with you here. You must type // to make a comment. To me and perhaps to a lot of flash/javascript programmers, this is the "comment" symbol.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
"what symbol goes at the end of a multi- line comment" - take literally the answer should be / (single symbol) it requires you to input the symbol(S) */ , sure its just a typo

@sertuzio
You must type the answer it tells you, just how it tells you. Exactly. I mean, it must not be that hard to be done. Seriously.

For some reason, this is surprisingly fun. Can't tell if it's the ''battles'' or the training zones were made to be fun.

characterIntelligence = 1650 + characterIntelligence; is incorrect, characterIntelligence = characterIntelligence + 1650; is correct. In actual programming both are correct.
Also i wish i could skip this and get to the story/ending. I already know how to program :(

Best reward ever :D. I know some PHP, so it's easy to go through this game. But later it'll be harder, so... UPDATE, UPDATE, UPDATE!

trace("Coins:"+Coins); let's give a random value of 5 to Coins, here's the output (TL;DR yes you are missing something)
Coins:5
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
In elite training zone's rite of passage, on the one where they want you to make a trace statement so Coins:3 shows up on the output screen, shouldnt
trace("Coins:" + Coins); work? or am I missing something?

I think it is modulus, not modulo but anyway great game! I will now have something productive to do during my sembreak

You should specify in the arena FAQ that in order to restore health there you must buy the restore computer option at shop and not the usual restore health

I think in the battles there should be some reason to use 1 attack over the others. I think an extra variable like processing power might be interesting where a higher damage attack uses more processing power thereby giving incentive to occasionally ping rather than just torrential email.
You read my mind. I originally considered including a "line" category, but it made things too complicated (for users and for me to program) maybe in a future update?
In a shout, please tell me how you played the game to get to this error. (Like, one runthrough vs. start, and pick up at a later time). I don't know why this is happening and need info to find the bug. thanks

Some errors in Basic Math:
• The compiler does not run the program
• i-- is called _decrementing_ i, not incrementing

The only problem: i submited wrong answer in tutorial 1 too much (you asked me to do dis lol), so when i needed to get hint, i ragequited. Fix please.

Phaytle: // is two symbols
Phaytle: and */ is two symbols
Phaytle: so if asked the questions what is the SYMBOL at the beginning of a comment, "/" is the correct answer, not "//"
Phaytle: and when asked the question what is the SYMBOL at the end of a comment, the correct answer is "/", not "*/"
Phaytle: unless there is a special programming keyboard somewhere that contains both of those characters on one key, then I could see // and */ being called -A- symbol.

Wow, I loved it, i have always thought of coding and how difficult it would be however your really break it down into easy steps to follow, with a little humor thrown in.

Hey Gregory, I just want to say that I'm loving your game so far, and I really hope I can get to use all the things I'm learning :) Also, I just noticed a slight mistake in the elite training in "Building a Tip Calculator part 1" in part 3, where you don't specify which type of variable to use, making it a bit frustrating before I figured it out. Also, this is my first time relogging into the game, and I had to re-choose my character and I had lost about 70 lvls, from 75 to 5. I also had to redo the first Rite of Passage, but my progress in the elite training was the same as before.

i think i am blind, kinda am, but i cant seem to find the next training area after finishing the basic RoP. When i click on the Tower at the end of basic, i see: the town, mountains, a volcano, the sun, and the back button that takes me to the basic training area.

In part 5/9 of concatenation, there's an extra double quote(") after stringTwo, right before the semicolon(;). You might want to remove it as it might confuse people.
4 private var stringFour:String = stringOne + " " + stringTwo ";

An excellent game! Very easy to understand and it was broken down into levels very nicely! A great game for learning ActionScript 3 or any basics for coding. I can't wait for the next version!

5*
Love the concept. I have some knowledge about programming already and instead of trying to teach a couple people I know, I'm sending a link of this game to them. This will grab their attention much quicker and they retain things from enjoyable learning better. I shall keep following this game as it develops as well. Much love to you and this game for filling a void in between an actual game and all those dry tutorials.

Neat little game, be interesting if you make a sequel someday and add a full text box(multiple lines) with parsing to act as a simple interpreter.

Tip calculator (the first one) part 3 doesn't tell you that you need to make salesTax a Number, and Number isn't capitalized in part 5.

Just finished this version and all i can say to you sir is Bravo!! Although it can seem complicated you explained it very well and it was easy to follow and I was flying through it without a problem towards the end do to your explanations. If i could rate more than 5 stars I definitely would and this has reassured my decision of getting a degree in Computer Science and Programming. Please keep doing what your doing and finish this game all the way to the end!

Part 5/9 Concatenation
If you forget to put spaces at the end of your sentences, there is another way you can add spaces in between two strings. Check out the code below.
1 private var stringOne:String = "Hello, my name";
2 private var stringTwo:String = "is Gregory Carlson";
3 private var stringThree:String = stringOne + stringTwo;
Right now, stringThree will read:
Hello, my nameis Gregory Carlson.
Kind of annoying since there is no space between name and is. But watch what I do when I create stringFour:
4 private var stringFour:String = stringOne + " " + stringTwo ";
Is that third " supposed to be there?
private var stringFour:String = stringOne + " " + stringTwo ?"?;

ALSO! Elite section two? part 5/9 has a syntax error where you close a parentheses after calling the variable string two in the bottom half of the text block
