If you are having problems connecting it may be that port 23 is being blocked on your computer or network. We are working on setting up some alternate ports in the next version.

Not sure what your problem is with it, CaptainCool...are you choosing the "Create New Character" option? I just created one right now to test your problem, and had none myself.
Wonderful game. Great to pop in and pop out. World changes dramatically over the years - both Achaean and Real.

They don't try to suck money out of you. It's not like you can -only- get credits by buying them from their site. It's been said before, the IRE games will, from time to time, hold events with credits as prizes. Aside from that, it's entirely possible to get an enjoyable experience out of the game without paying a cent.

Absolutely my favorite MUD of my entire gaming experience. My current character (Quoren) has been active for nearly a year now, and I have taken him to heights I did not even imagine when I first created him. Your limits are literally your imagination and your will. People have even gotten Gods implemented due to their roleplay efforts! I absolutely recommend it. 5/5 and higher if they had it.

I started playing Achaea in 1999 and quit around 2005-06 in game my character has fought in several wars. Played a paladin. Protector of light and so forth, seen new cities arise new gods show up, gods leave fought a god . twice. got involved in relationships met my current girlfriend from the game (yes girls play here) but in the end eventualy i called it quits. You try living with a evil knight and see how that effects your role play style. Its so intesnse. It really did help me in opening my mind to new possiblities Seeing this game brings back a lot of memories some good, some bad, some that make me want to cringe and some that want to make me go back and play some more. It really isn't for everyone. but if you want a game that every room you enter is detailed to a point. can teach you new possiblieties, new horizions and think dungeons and dragons is just too confusing and too geeky for you... this really is the game for you.

I really want to go on this but when i enter a name, it just says checking name and doesnt continue, even after like, 10 minutes. Any help?

Very immersive, and I agree with Keiana. You're not limited by somebody's view of the world. The only thing you're limited by is your imagination. This game is very newbie friendly, so that's yet another reason for a 5/5. As Keiana said, there are no graphics, sure, but I think the gameplay totally makes up for it.

Hi all! I've been playing Achaea for 2 years now, and I still love it. Sure, there are no graphics, and yeah, it's a pretty expansive world to grasp but you either love it or you don't. I enjoy the fact that I am not constrained by someone else's idea of how the world should look or work. I love the depth of creativity and freedom of expression that we have - you can be anything you want! Your imagination gets to do it's own thing while your language skills improve as you learn to express yourself and have fun in a text-based fantasy universe. Give it a try, but give it a little patience. It takes a little while to really see all that the world has to offer. Iron Realms, specifically Achaea, gets an automatic 5/5 from me!

As Sagron said, MUDs are NOT for everyone. I've been playing Imperian about five years now, I played Aetolia for about a year and I've been on Lusternia on and off for about a year- I don't figure I need to say which is my favorite. They all have their own ups and downs. I personally love the PK of Imperian. It's high speed, intense, and among the actual combatants you never know who's going to win until the fight actually ends. I'm still absolutely addicted to IRE MUDs and expect to be for years to come.
Signed,
Lalaith, from Imperian.

Quite immersive experience once you get the hang of it. Rather lot to learn at the beginning but with a community more then willing to lend a hand.
You can become whatever you wish to be. Merchant, Mercenary, City Leader, Lowly thief, Cult leader, Good, Evil, Tree hugger, ruthless brute, etc. The list is only limited by your own imagination.

In 2004, my first try at Iron Realms Achaea was the most confusing time in all of my gaming experience. However, with my return as Samakhulis in 2007, through time and practice this game has proven itself to be THE MOST in depth and exciting game ever for me. Just the history alone draws one into the story line. The command-line interface is a bit difficult to navigate and figure out, but with time, proficiency in operating the game becomes super! Awesome newbie friendly with easy, yet informational intro course to get you started. 6/5 stars for the greatest MUD on earth!

For the record, I'm a NICE occultist. You can sell me things and I promise I won't make trouble for the Light or anyone else, for that matter!

I was overjoyed when I saw Achaea et. al. show up on Kongregate. I can assure the nay-sayers that the low level voters who have shown up in masses are NOT bots, but dedicated players who think these games rock their world. In fact, I recognize a couple names from this list already.
Anyhow, these are some of th best MUDs online, if they don't float your boat, then at least don't kill their ratings out of spite.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Oh, and yeah. Gotta represent. Aetolia is the best of all the IRE MUDS. You guys should so try that first. >.> Just saying
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Okay, so, first off, how would you make a bot to rate a game 5? Also, why would you rate a game 1 just because other -people- are rating it 5? You make no sense, Pl0xz0rz. I, personally, think this game is great, and I just started. 5/5 and favorited.

Hey, all those level 1s coming from other places are coming -here- to play -this Flash client-. To check it out, you know, and see how it compares to the Nexus client. Don't be silly and think they're bots.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
you can't make bots which vote 5 these are all players of the games themselves, me myself have got addicted to the game aswell, and i voted it a 5/5 to, this game is no rubbish, you just need to have imagination

Each game has its own unique theme which are suitable for mature gamers who enjoy a large roleplaying or player-versus-player/monster environment. I personally prefer Imperian for its combat and RP potential. I've played Achaea and the other two briefly as well.

We aren't bots rating it 5, we're people who love the game and had never heard of kongregate since now. Rather then be stingy, welcome us to this website with open arms. If I was just a bot, I wouldn't have made an account and started playing all the games.
Achaea is awesome. I've been playing for over 5 years now. Everyone is always working to make it better and better, and right now, it's amazing. Deep, lots of good roleplay and opportunities to have fun.

For the nine or so years I've been playing the IRE muds, I find Imperian being the superior at the moment. If you are a PK monger like me, you will absolutely love it there. We have plenty of Roleplaying going on along with the battles between magick, demoners and anti-magick organisations. Join today and stop missing all the fun and depth that no other game, graphic or non-graphic can offer!

In the two years I've been playing Achaea, I've seen two Gods born, three or four return from dormancy, been a pretty big help in a lot of fights, fought in a war, got kicked out of a Divine Order, changed class, changed cities, had kids, had -grandkids-.... this game is really immersive. I can't wait to see what happens to me as my current, newer character.

a little confusing mostly because this is the first text rpg ive ever played :P
but im gonna play some more so i can understand it ;)

I have only played Lusternia, but it has been more addictive then is good for me. The PVP never appealed to me but I had some great time RPing with others. A great way for stress relieve and a great way to make new friends across the world.

@ Kurtis: Iron Realms: it takes a lot of time to get really immersed, and therefore engaged in the game. But beware: highly addictive!
