The story is awesome. The game itself isn't hard to beat, but that's not the point of it, is it? Loved the music, by the way (though I had to get to the credits to realize it's in my native language, lol).

"For Mercy has a human heart; Pity, a human face; And Love, the human form divine; And Peace, the human dress." Every single instance of text is a poem. Beautiful script, great game. 5 Stars + Fave.

I agree with xcolbyx, except on 1 part. The AI was trying to turn itself on. It was hunting in it's memory for password fragments (it has access to all the computers in the base). It's extra high processing power lets it do this without noticeable passage of time (hence, time freeze). Once it found the password, it reactivated itself and proceed to destroy all the world's weapons as it wanted to. Not sure how the infinite ocean fits in though.

Hunter34: By definition, the military has chosen brawn. As such, they never realize that it is quite possible things will not go QUITE as planned

Oh god, the moment I saw "Sentient Global Defense System"...SkyNet much?
Sweet Jesus.
On a side note, why does the military always screw themselves over?

Good basic ideas, but doesn't really catch up, for a couple of reasons. Mostly, the gameplay: substantially all the gameplay is about reading excerpts from computer and combining password pieces, full stop. The story behind sounds great, but it's still a bit too fragmentary to form a coherent picture (which is clearly part of the basic idea of the game, but nonetheless...).

Incredible, thought provoking on many levels. While I usually can't play these search games from start to finish, this held me through with a ominous atmosphere, ease of play, and an almost philosophical narrative. The atmosphere itself is a masterpiece, I believe the room with seven messages was probably the most chilling. Seeing a dead end and then turning about the room to see all those monitors, a sense of dread was achieved that no other game, console, PC, or online has ever matched. Granted, I don't play horror games, but a particularly striking metaphor had come to me. The first time you fight the flood in the original Halo, but to imagine being locked in the room and only hearing them. You know (or think you know) something is trying to kill you, and in the case of Infinite Ocean (there's a reason the flood came to mind) it appears to be succeeding.

WOW! Just wow! I have to say, at one part in the game one of the text files mentions "scientific arrogance" and postmodernism, and I sighed and said, "Oh, one of THOSE games". But it turns out to subvert that trope to a great effect. Reminds of Asimov!

I don't think the AI is attempting to turn itself off completely, and thus (according to one of the logs) turn off every weapon on Earth - nor do I think the developers want that either. One of the computers has an "error" entry that reads "ERROR: function JerrysLittleMonkey() prevented function CompleteShutdown() from executing properly; cannot erase tmp files." This seems to indicate that Jerry added in an exploit to prevent the AI from shutting down, or possibly to prevent the AI from being "killed" by the government.

The AI says "I AM." at the end. In one of the logs, they said that when they first turned the AI on, those were its first words. The logs also mention that the AI had 'dreams', or what they explain as snippets of consciousness before he was fully booted. This would explain the hourglass and the clock. Not only this, but more of the logs explained how about halfway, even though they had everything working fine, the AI wouldn't boot up. And before you access every other computer and turn off the IO, you aren't able to access the emergency mode computer. The AI specifically says "No, I don't know why but I know it won't work just yet." It refuses to access the one thing keeping it from leaving it's, I guess you can call it, prison. The entire game is the AI trying to wake up, to BE, to exist. Of course, this theory has a lot of holes, but that's my two cents.

*sits in awed silence for a while* this... this is just... how to put it into words? This game is simply... beautiful. The visuals, the story, the ideas, and that haunting elderich music. 5/5 and favorite? Simply does not do this game justice. Jonas Kyratzes, you have created a true masterpiece and I, as a writer myself, am humbled at the vision you have shown in writing this game. If I where ever to harness the imagination to write a story as profound and beautiful as this, then I shall count myself blessed.

one comment: in one file is a reference to "postmodernism". perhaps you've heard this saying: "there is no such thing as right or wrong, only differences of opinion". that is the CORE of postmodernism! if you hear someone say that, you should reply, "i believe it would be perfectly all right to KILL YOU." he will quickly contradict himself outrageously!

This is one of the games from which you leave wiser than you were before playing them. In other words, it's a piece of art.

Very good story; very well written. I would have loved a map though (maybe in the inventory menu); I kept getting lost.

I love the game! 4/5. The only reason it's not 5/5 is because there is no mute button I can find and the music is eerie at 2 A.M.

When playing the game you will most likely find "Tsarstvo Bozhiye vnutri vas" written, which means "The realm of god is inside you" in russian.

I agree with xXxcolbyxXx for the most part, but I wouldn't say that you're entirely suspended in time, because if you click on the hourglass, it still says "Time is running out". Since its such a powerful computer, it can probably process everything so fast that it almost seems like time is frozen. Great game, deserves to be on the front page.

I also read the afterword. Very interesting, I hope everyone read it. Also, how come so few people have played/know about this gem of a game!? The best we can do is give it the 5/5 it deserves and hope it eventually gets featured, I guess.

Look up "Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori". It translates to: "It is sweet and fitting to die for one's country." In game, you see it as a part of Wilfred Owen's poem, "Dulce et decorum est". The old lie....

Brilliant and athmospheric. And: I didn't expected to find here a game with Russian "Господи помилуй" church chor as a soundtrack. I am really impressed.

I just beat this game. very few games can send a chill trough my spine like this one has. And The last words we see, it makes me think on something: this is a self-aware machine made to control government defenses. It was smarter than the humans surrounding it, and eventually used all nuclear warheads on humans. And his first words were "I AM". Is this AM, from "I Have no Mouth And I Must Scream"?

omg... clicking/reading through every document became so redundant... yes the story was nice and all but could it have shown like a log file where everything was on one page and i just had to scroll or something... and only click scan once 3/5 because i'm tired and i found this game more annoying then anything
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
either this is a very annoying bug, or im doing something wrong, but my entire inventory gets erased every now and then, its really annoying going back and doing everything you just did, getting one step further then having to do it all over again

this game is beautiful, the atmosphere hit me in a way no other game has ever done; i found myself moving around with circumspection, trying to assemble all the pieces, changing ideas while discovering logs and letters, with chills going down my spine while i was thinking of all the possible consequences of what i was seeing.
I don't even care if this seems stupid, this story is beautiful.
