I don't know if i was lucky or what but i managed to win after around 3 hours of playing by using warrior and mixing him with barbarian's skills to make him do more damage.

First playthrough: Lvl 17 Warrior obtained the Pimp Chalice of Yendor at 111:24
Dump all talent points into the Warrior's Book, max fortitude and melee as soon as possible. Purchase nothing but food and kite your enemies around corners. Goodluck, brave warriors.

Fun way to grind up, pick a fighter(high HP) and look for a necromancy book, take cannibalise and life strike. Two shots with LS to crocs and snakes, then cannibalise, and you slowly build HP back up. Merchants restock meat approximately every 40 units of hunger (not sure if there's a limit but I got tired of fooling around at 7 meats bought) and with a ring of sustenance that's exactly 1:1. Will grind even faster if you find a talent trainer. Probably best if you find him in the sewer since the areas are compartmentalised a bit. (also lots of respawning maggots for your axe) Enjoy completely breaking everything! Ended at level 25. Also if you get a weapon drop DON'T pick it up first, go sell your current one first.

Maybe I was just lucky, but here are my two cents as a beginner who beat the game on his first try: Take the fighter, put all skill points into melee and fortitude, some in focus, but you'll need those only in the later levels. Get an axe and make it better (the weapons stack), so you can hit several enemies at once. Search everything, kill everything you see, take every heal shroom and only use potions in battle, else just use several shrooms. Only use the fountains when you need them, not everytime you see one. They'll wait for you. Destroy red shrooms and fire traps from afar, and try to use them against enemies. Use unstable terrains to your advantage. Against several enemies, bring the melee fighters between yourself and the ranged fighters. They're perfect meat shields. Then use charge against the ranged fighters, or just go towards them, depending on wether your health or energy is lower. And that's it. I never got even near being killed, it took a while but I enjoyed the game.

Too Bad, there's only 6 book slots, however there are 7 classes! After my fire mage got six of them, he can't use the talents from the seventh book...

looks fun but I have no patience and nothing develops/builds over each death at all like not even the smallest little bit of improvement from run 1 to run 100. I feel most rogue-likes do something in that manner :/

One cold floor after another, yuck! I was too low in health to see what casting a fireball on top of me would have done for my cold index. Try, try again.

OMFG was at floor 14 with my necromancer and everything was going super easy used thunderclap when i was in trouble and otherwise just drained everyones hp but then BAM wall gone filled with lava elementals accedentally walked 1 step and died fu this game.

@pangsmn There is a whole genre of games where you start over when you die. They are called Rogue-likes. It's the reason Rogue is in the title. It makes you learn the games mechanics and not play carelessly. If you dont enjoy it, steer clear of games with the Rogue-like tag.

Those lava floors are just nasty. You KNOW that every rogue enthusiast is gonna explore every bit of the map, and has to walk about all of the lava.

I know it's a rogue like game, but once I won a first time, that's more than enough!
A - I lost many times in the ice caves just because of a miss click (move instead of attack), awful. In the suwers, a single poison guy could kill me...
B - When you win, there's no bonus: if you survived, you should be able to keep some stuff (maybe not verything but some at least).
C - I liked this game because it's turn by turn, I can watch a movie at the same time. Why do you count real time instead of moves for the success? My computer is slow and it takes many seconds (often 10 to 15) to change level. And no way to pause other than leaving and saving... Once again: no interest in finishing a second time if there's nothing to help me go faster.
D - If you start as warrior and change to mage you have plenty of health, what to you gain by starting as mage?
E - you can kill/hurt yourself with fire, but you still are cold to loose life even after being hit by a fireball?

In general, lots of fortitude is your friend. If you're a mage, lots of focus to spam your powerful spells. If you can get the rogue book and then the dungeon sense talent, the last area will be a lot easier.

Make it so instead of stating 'exploration complete,' pressing the auto-explore button when a level is fully explored sends you to the next level!

Found out that the electric book with 5 round stun is op if you have the mana to back it up together with the tele helmet to see all mobs, got trough lvl 12-end using 23 mana shrooms and stunning anything that came in my path. Great game ones you find out how to avoid damage

I would love to know witch class is best for beginners or players how haven't played in a long time.Honestly I beileve it is the warior beacause of his high amount of health in the beginning of the game.

Justx4xFun: Probably, if you use stairs and come back, he'll let you see what he has for sale again. Usually when that happens, there'd been a battle near him and I'd hit him with an AoE of some kind, like Poison Cloud.

On the one hand, I am SUPER thrilled that this is not a pay-to-win game. 5/5
On the other hand, I am SUPER frustrated I can't get past the 12th floor no matter what I do. OMG.

Every time I start to make a little progress I get swarmed by a horde of things that kill me dead. I hate it when I have to start all over from scratch. After about 15 tries and never making it past level 4 I am starting to think about skipping this badge.

Sorry, but the sheer grind and repetitiveness of this game just makes it boring. Even the extra points for BOTD doesn't make it worth the effort. Guess I'll just have to wait 'til Saturday for this week's ''SHINY''

My game crashed halfway through, but luckily it autosaved or something like that. Then (with Ranger) I went on to beat it!

After 4 months of playing this game, getting ridiculously lucky runs, experimenting with all the characters, getting really salty about how overpowered a lot of the enemies are, and not winning 1 game, I have just 1 question. HOW THE LIVING F*** ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO BEAT THIS MOTHERF******?!
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Permanent Bonuses for classes that have finished the game/got the three cups would be nice, also needs more achievements and ways to customize character. Would be nice to have at least 4x more levels (but not endless, a goal must still be set).
5*, an impossible badge would be cool (completely each class under 45 mins).

This is not a rogue-like. It's just a short game. So far I haven't had the chance to bring anything from one run through to the next.
