mages should have resistance to their element. if they have researched the element so much they must know ways to proyrct themselves from it.

After playing this version off and on many times starting today it is no longer loading (99%). My guess is that it may have to do with this message in the console log, indicating a newly missing file on the Kong server:
Source map error: Error: request failed with status 404

I agree with Ysayell1 - the game on Steam isn't expensive, and it's a great expansion of what was started here. That said, it's also notably more difficult. I still enjoy running through this version a couple times a week.

For those of you still coming back because of the awesome replayability, strongly consider buying the game on Steam. It's HUGELY updated. Like, a whole new game.

There should be a bit of a chance buff for equipment that corrisponds to your class. Going 16 levels without getting a long bow or a plus sling when playing the ranger is crazy

4 consec daily challenges. Level 19 ranger. Max HP. Max range. +5 longbow. +5 Dex ring. Every kind of wand and scroll imaginable. After some wounds on the last level walks into a fire pot and dies. Sigh.

Pitfalls break the necromancer build since it makes ONLY you go down to the next floor and since you have no skeletons on that floor the mana bar goes to normal and you can summon skeletons even if you had full skeletons before the pitfall and once you go back to the floor wher you had fallenyou have following you the skeletons you had before the pitfall and the skeletons you sumoned after the pitfall.

I'm surprised no one talks about the fire mage as the best. I got so used to the 5-square coverage of the fireball, including the ability to hit enemies around corners or out of sight.

For me, the enchanter went great for getting the goblet. I had a staff of ice to do damage, a confusion level 3 to wreak havoc amidst tough set of enemies, and swiftness (WOW) to avoid combat if desired. But the last battle still cost me all resistance potions (which, if you miss, count as healing) on top of me having 74 max HP.

Lordvallum, just fake you,the best class to play isn't ranger:It is necromancer, got the hard badge using it,but, anyway, you have to be lucky and spend your points on toxic mastery, and evasion if you get a tome.you have to be lucky because you have to get a "greater staff of poison" to have a chance to win the game, and also try to get the many health potions possible:on the last floor i were with 4,after it lasted 0.anyway,GG

I can't start this game.
When the load is finished, a gray square (about 1/4 of full screen) is on lower right of screen.
Please help. Thanks.
I have played the previous games in serie and love them.

Play barbarian (warrior that is prohibited from magic, who has nearly useless "rage" skill AND cooldowns takes forever) = active skills nearly useless, all magic related skill tomes that you find are wasted.
Best case: most enemys weak melees, you find melee weapons and scrolls
Arcane tower will kill you 90% of the time. Same for The Core (just forget it, lots of ranged high damage monsters)
The barbarian needs a +1 to all magic resistances from the start and way to actually survive.
On the contrary, the easiest class to play is the ranger:
-Ranged weapons have greatest reach of all weapons
-Dex will give you evasion
-Carry heavy armor without damage reduction (stealth is mostly useless anyway)
- +3 Short-bow + strafe attack + any armor is enough to win the game 90% of the time
-laugh at barbarians who struggle for survival since the early game

@AndrewD113 You naturally regenerate health 1 hp per 10 turns, or more if you have items that boost regeneration. The cost of waiting to heal is that you will use up your food.

Well I finally did it, sub 45 times for every hero and 5 daily challenges in a row. Whats next, playing what class I want for fun :D

Tunnel Shot on a Crystal Golem, bounces off Golem, then bounces of me, hits and kills Golem and both enemies behind it. Amazing.

You can save your game while the victory message is on. When you come back, there is no longer a goblet and you can no longer finish the game.

i actually made it my mission to beat the game without strafe attack + swiftness and i finally did it, mostly due to my +6 heal charm and the massive reserves of spell power and mana i built up and insane luck with drops, managed to get all my gear to around +3 minimum and a lot of blink, fear and teleport scrolls - a time of 88 minutes (most of it spent looking for optimal strategy in tight situations without an easy out)

this is a little odd, ran into my first glitch/bug and I'm not sure how to report it since Kongregate can't do much of anything about it. I have to activate a switch that lets me access an optional floor but the switch it behind the closed gate. any ideas?

@Firemorefox Just to make strafe attack even more broken: There is a feature called strafe dodging. Enemies have your evasion * 2 chance (so 10 evasion = 100%) to attack the tile you were in previously if you move. Only time you get hit is if you just entered an enemies attack range, or some spells like lightning bolt sometimes ignore this. Also some projectiles keep going in a straight line, so you need to move out of the line of fire.

On ways to abuse strafe attack+swiftness combo: When fighting towers/ballistas/ranged enemies, you can go behind cover, step out, strafe attack, return to cover, repeat. You can keep attacking without ever getting hit because of the strafe+swiftness. Alternatively, you can do two attacks a turn using the strafe+swiftness. It's so OP.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Why player doesn't have resistance to their native element: Resistances are based on your armor, the game assumes enemy mages have colored dragon armor I guess, but the player can be a red mage with blue dragon armor.
If you get both swiftness and strafe attack, you pretty much auto-win. You can do two attacks a turn, and the combo is even better as ranger because you do two ranged attacks per turn. Unless you do a really dumb mistake, you almost never lose.

Apparently summoners' swords get one attack after the summoner's death. I ignored the swords b/c they were going to *poof* when i killed the summoner, but I was killed by the swords after he died to my attack. There were literally 0 enemies left on my death screen.

It took me far to long to win, but when I finally did it was because I realized that a barbarian who plays like a rogue is really nasty. Stealth increases critical damage, so my barbarian was routinely dropping 130+ hits on crowds of enemies. Add in some evasion so he wasn't getting hit back as often, and he was hard to stop.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Honestly, I got so annoyed trying to win it properly that I just got the ranger with sprint, killed who I needed to, stockpiled meat and potions, and went down the stairs every time I saw them. It worked for me to get the hard badge.

fire elemental's fireballs track you- it's basically another monster. They move fast, like bats and wolves. If you're a ranged character, you can shoot it out of the air, or you can lure it over lizard's fire breath. Running away

A fire elemental's living fireball was in a square next to me. I tried to move away from it, and it instantly exploded without me even moving. No idea what happened.

@CFS1977 Ah, the other thing that could cause that is a Ring of Thunder, which will deal electric damage to any enemy that melee attacks you.
