Wow, this game is so beatiful. The feeling you have while watching your mechanism is greater than killing a thousand zombies. The brilliant music also contributes to the experience. You have to work on the presentation side, though. That's always the downside in your games- only very few has the ability and will to even try to understand your games. Frankly this is only game of yours that I got into, the others were too complicated. Try to work on the graphics and presentation, and thing about adding interactive tutorials to your games. Good luck in the future

You finish a level and it says that your progress has been saved and you should quit to get to the menu and reach the next level. When you press quit, you're given horrible warnings about your design being lost and, indeed, it is. That's really poor design. Why can't there just be a 'next' button when you finish each level? That way, designs for levels aren't lost as soon as the player wants to try the next level.

To anyone who liked this - check out Space Chem by the same author. Very hard, but otherwise one of the finest puzzle games I've ever played. There's a demo on his site.

If it's not saving your progress, you might need to check if your browser is saving cookies. Note that only your progress is saved by a cookie; your design is saved only if you copy the code somewhere.
I love this game. The music is a perfect match with the mechanics of the workspace. I just wish there was a sandbox mode, and I wish it could keep running even after I produce the required amount of molecules. I could just sit and watch a well-designed creation run for hours. It reminds me of "How It's Made" on Discovery Channel...

Sorry for the doublepost, but I think I've got how to get 11 cycles: a single manipulator in the center takes one cycle less to transport atoms up to the output, even though it does so less often. In fact, I've been having trouble because atoms are colliding in the output area! I'm moving them up faster than it can accept them!!! xD

I wish there were more games like this out there. If there are, then sadly they're religated to arcane URLs or stuck between brainless "puzzle" games that anyone can figure out. Other than Zachtronics, (who made this game) the only other one like it was a one-off called Manufactoria, which can be found here on Kongregate.

@dharmabum26 or lavacakes, there is a forum post on this site that has a bunch of stuff on this game and the sequel, and on there it says it is impossible to get less than 13
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Lavacakes, for level 1 you need two assembly lines made, so that they can both be shuttling atoms over at the same time.
I could get it down to 13 with this trick, but couldn't quite figure out the 11.

Being able to double click on a command to send it to the programming of an arm would be nice, be easier than dragging them every time.

It would be nice to see the the number of the level that I am working on in the programming screen so that I can my new cycle/symbol numbers with the highscore.

That last piece of code is incorrect; here's the right version:
m,9,10,90,1,ucdrrorr;m,12,10,0,1,rucdrror;m,5,10,90,2,cdrrorru;m,2,10,90,2,drrorruc;m,12,6,270,1,rrucdrro;m,2,6,90,1,rrorrucd;m,5,6,180,1,rorrucdr;m,9,6,270,1,orrucdrr;
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Also compare how to make a manipulator "wait" without wasting cycles:
m,5,10,90,2,cdrrorru;m,2,10,90,2,drrorruc;m,2,5,90,1,rrorrucd;m,5,5,180,1,r
orrucdr;m,9,5,270,1,orrucdrr;m,12,5,270,1,rrucdrro;m,12,10,0,1,rucdrror;m,9
,10,90,1,ucdrrorr;
Note how each manipulator has the exact same instruction set; the only difference is when the "close" instruction activates, and the initial position of the arms.

Here's some useful code bits: a six cycle assembler b,6,9;m,4,9,90,2,clorww;m,10,9,90,2,curold;
and it's "mirror image" (if you want the other orientation): b,6,9;m,10,9,90,2,crolww;m,4,9,90,2,cdloru;
Also, here's an 8 stage piece that makes a molecule 3 atoms long:
b,4,10;m,1,10,90,2,clor;m,7,10,90,2,cdr11olu;
Copying solutions doesn't help you learn; use these segments to inspire your own solutions.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
For the people saying they don't get it: you're trying to make a number of copies of the element shown in the circle at the top (matching both the component materials and the orientation). Two catches: First, if you don't have the right components, you need to drop them into the glyphs that convert them into what you need. Look at the symbols on the glyphs to see what they accept and what they convert to. Note the two special case glyphs that don't convert: one connects two atoms (either of which can already be connected to another atom) and one creates a duplicate of an atom. Second, you can't move the atoms directly; you have to place mechanical arms that have a limited and specific range of movement, and program all their movements in beforehand. Click on an arm then "Programming" to assign the movements of that arm; you will need to carefully coordinate the arms and place rests in where necessary. Have your system create and orient the compound and drop it in the circle.
