the chaos desert's skill "Burn" is just unfair, when they cast it, they keep on casting it and there is no way to block it.

I think theres a bug when you play poison and your enemy is poison... poison bolts and waves reduce your own poison number sometimes instead of increasing the opponents... weird?

Anyone else see Chaos Desert mages as being overpowered?
Decreasing enemies special is absolutely crppling to your enemies, the additional bolts can overwhelm everyone which just allows you to drain their special and on the 6th turn(at least if you took the skills so you have all the additional bolts skills) you can just use burning and kill everyone in a single shot, I got like 200 damage on the last bolt.
I think there was only a single fight I didnt win on the 6th turn, if you dont count the ones I had when I wasnt high level yet.

Wow, what a surprisingly deep game. It's amazing how your relationships with people, and the choices you make will have consequences on the game world.

Book of Magic has acceptable gameplay, but what really makes it stand out is the obvious recognition that frustration and tedium do not equal challenge or fun. Mutual annihilation isn't an auto-loss, like most games. Loss itself doesn't force you to start over from your last save. As for negatives, the dialogue is extremely repetitive and annoying, but it's also interesting in a way. Not only do you see the same dialogue from the same perspective repeatedly, you can end up in the exact same role as your former tormentors, heroes, and/or victims.

i find the Darkwood race quiet overpowered, sometimes its just impossilbe to remove the Reduced Damage that you only deal about 2 damage at the end, and even if you try to remove it, they will do the same right in the next round.

Fun game. Paced well. Though I wouldn't mind an auto-save feature. I accidentally closed my browser & lost an hour & a half worth of game play.

Chaos mages when maxed offence are an automatic 5/6 turn ko. It's just about sapping the opponents SP until you can nuke with a burn spell. Hitting over 2k damage / attack even against end bosses.

Such a magnificent game. I cannot wait to see a sequel, and compared to the first one, this game is much, much better. I hope I can feel that way with the 3rd one as well ;)~. But that's a bit inhuman, no?

well i was really enjoying till i got hit by this mana leak spell. you see, i can "rest" and get +5 mana, but this wonderful spell takes 12 mana everytime i get my five. spells like those really need a limited number of turns. cuz i cant do crap and im going to give this nice game a bad rating. sorry :( fix it.

I don't get it... I mean, why does my 10 'higher' bolts spell cost 1 more mana than my opponents when his also has 10 bolts. And why does he then also have a larger mana pool than I do. It's not so much that this game is hard... It's just I can see it becoming just a grindathon... No real skill involved.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I can't be bothered to spend any longer than the 45 minutes it took to get through the tutorial to get any further. (Who finishes a tutorial at level 36 though, honestly. The leveling system is crazy!)

Bieng the number one mage in the book of mages really makes the final battles and the battle over the great mage throne much easier :P
everyone are running away and dying XD

Good Game... Some kind of Autosave feature after each battle or something or after every 6 months would be really really nice. Lost my first char @ level 100-something - was very sad.

Some little Beginners Guide:
start as chaos desert, at the very beginning raise your high and low attack equally and sometimes also raise life or mana. afther your attacks are both 10, get your high defence to 10 ( not low defence !! ). Start a fight by casting high attack. if ur enemy casts high attack, defend with high attack, if he casts low attack, cast low attack. your high level magics should be extra high attack and after that extra low attack.
Extra Tip: Be an ass in game ( eg stealing graves, saying you will let someone win to get an item but then don't etc. )

I have already played this game for some time and I admit it's great. The history has many branches, the fighting system is easy, and there is replayability value! Great work! Now for the drawbacks: there is such balance which lets one clan beat the other ALWAYS(assuming both sides use the same strategy). And the AI is not that good. And by the way, I'm feeling really ankward now, as I have defeated the mysterious hermit. IN ONE HIT. It was a combine, it have absorbed 361 damage or something like it, and then it dished out 4000 damage! I was playing normal and didn't try to break the game. Other than all that, 5/5 for you.

Ice land blows, final battle with the burning hill clan leader is impossible with them, there's no possible combo to stop those huge nukes.

A really nice Game 5/5! Defensive bolts could use more power, and sometimes the story turns really strange, but ok. After playing the game several times, I`d claim that the Mages are rather balanced. Chaos might be superstrong, but Ice can absorb the attack and counterattack much stronger, poison can kill anyone given enough time and mana (poison->stun->poison->stun..)

I think the game is a lil to easy, defeated all end game people became leaders of both and with all 3 of my characters became white mages. Two of my characters only loss one fight the whole time and it was to the same person in the begining of the game some guy from posion people. Game is easiest played as evil, made a posion guy and made him evel, you get all kinds of treasures. Easiest to win end game though was my Chaos desert guy, did boat loads of dmg.

haha... I picked a poison water... did NOTHING but mana cave the entire game, auto lost forced combats and at the end could still beat the icemage... just tanked up poison waves, mass defended all attacks and could instagib after 40 poisons were on

After having played the original version of Book of Mages some time ago. A new version comes out, and it just gets better. Nothing said, this is one of the best single player RPG games which is simple, well thought and free!! 5/5!!!

If you go to learn a high or clan magic, you should be able to exit out of the training w/o learning anything if you don't like what's available.

Overall, I enjoyed this game, but I must say that Chaos Desert is ridiculously overpowered. Thanks to burn they easily do more damage than Burning Hill, and thanks to special reducing bolts, more offensive bolts and infinite recasting of the same spell, they are more defensive than Great Ocean, and that's without spending a single point on defensive bolts and only a handful on life because I mostly ran out of other things to spend points on. Defensive bolts in general could use some love; perhaps 2 bolts per skill point and/or lower casting cost than offensive bolts.

Sorry, so in this world people sit in a cave for years and years and then they are suddenly the rulers of the world? Also neutral is a pile of piss. X x

I enjoyed playing this game, however the end was a bit of a disappointment for me, while trying to play the good guy.
From moral reasons, I refused to fight the great mages at the end, and I thought I would have the opportunity to prove later, in the arena. But no, the game ended. :) 4 stars anyway
