Very well done game. It is definitely reminiscent of the old NES and SNES RPGs. I loved the dialogue and humor. For those with negative comments please keep in mind that it is ONLY the first chapter (an introduction) and as such it should be linear. The system is VERY easy to catch onto, its a very tried and true RPG system and the instructions took all of 3 minutes to read and understand fully. Nicely done!

Fantastic. I'm not sure why people expect an old-school RPG to not be dialog-heavy. They kind of have to be, which is why I'm so glad the dialog here is so delicious. Myep.

Well, it seems like you've got a pretty solid framework for a classic RPG type game. The next step is to make an actual game out of it.
It obviously has a lot of small quirks and oddities, but most of it is easily remedied. Some of the things I noticed are:
- the sound needs leveling out. As in so many other flash games, the sfx are just way too loud.
- there needs to be a short, concise walkthrough of the game's menues and functions, *in-game*. You can't expect players to read the help-documentation. Some touch-ups to easy the usability of the GUI would be very nice too, and partially tackle the problem.
- As others have noted, there is way, WAY too much text in the game. When writing, you should evaluate each line and constantly ask yourself "Why is this line of dialogue in the game? What is it's justification?". You risk that people simply won't read it at all, which makes for all the more wasted effort.

Few observations:
1. Little heavy on the dialog
2. Would like to see 8-bit design throughout combat and cut-scenes
3. Not quite enough options...touch too linear

this game is alot like the old classic pokemon games on gameboy and also is like the original legend of zelda but those games were better even though they were not great i find this game to be pretty boring and stupid. i would rate this a 1/5

Chapter 2 and onwards DO use the keyboard for almost everything, not the mouse.
I'll be uploading an updated version of chapter 1 soon which will also use the chapter 2 controls.

Usually I hate it when badges come out on RPGs. This one though is great. It's evident that you put a lot of thought into the plotline and significant characters. They each have their personalities (and I'm probably among the very few who did it, even though I usually don't and read all the bookcases).
I really like the element system you made here, being evident in the characters' dialogues. (Hah, kinda overdid some of the guys in the end scene, but still it's good).
**Just one thing I'd like you to change in upcoming games. Instead of having to use the mouse to perform actions in battle, could you do it with the arrow keys and a to confirm, s to cancel or something like that? I don't like using the mouse.
Once again I'll say it, great game.

There IS an experience bar, on the status screen for each person, which can be accessed both from the menu, and in battle by clicking on their HP. Also, holding the E key in battle shows EXP bars above the HP bars. Similarly, holding L shows everyone's levels.
And people keep commenting on the "spelling errors", but as far as I know, there are none that aren't intentional.
People just vaguely comment on "spelling errors" though; I'd be quite interested if someone could mention specific examples of what they considered to be "spelling errors"...
Chapter 2's already out (can't people see that LINK over there in the description, or check my profile?), which improves on a lot of aspects.
