I would like to see more game like this, but I allow myself to point the negative point.
For a mage it takes short to have lots of ways to deal damage to opponents. One deals more damage. One costs less energy. One hits multiple foes in a particular shape. One hits multiple foes in another shape. One has a better range. One gets better with Magir more than others. One may deal one status in addition to damage. One may deal another status. One may deal three statuses but deal no damage. And so on...
Maybe less spells, but more creative? To give an example, wht not make every element have a total of 1 spell for each level mastery (e.g. 1 spell with 1 icon, end so on) in only one of the magic schools. Fire would get more damaging spells, wind more utility spells... Then add some cross-element spells at wish. I would remove the spells that last ad infinite, because all they do is let you wait for the appropriate tome or take an elemental affinity just for it.

I am told to spend my 1 arcane point. HOW? I have some items and one spell on the toolbar below. But I have two spells. How can I add another one to the toolbar, too? Please, add this info to instructions!
arcane point are spent in the skill panel (magic sub panel). Spells are added to the action bar automatically when they are available and can be dragged manually from the spell panel

Not a bad game, but I wouldn't call the campaign roguelike. You don't lose anything for death except the tiny bit of progress on the floor you were on.

Amazing game. I have a few questions/comments:
A.) End game trolls require magic to be killed and summons block openings a lot (can't cast past mobs!). It would be nice to allocate spots that summons don't walk to!
B.) Speaking of end game trolls, I fought one of those end game trolls (I forget the name but the really end game ones) and it was unkillable. It still took damage but I fought it for about 15 minutes casting high level evocation spells while it was surrounded by wisps and elementals. It never died and ones that I fought after that died significantly faster. Might be something to check out!
C.) Is there a hard difficulty? It seems like there is a spot for it but I didn't unlock it with my perfect clear! No way to know!
D.) Please don't hide classes that have unlocked in the past. It would be nice to keep requirements up!
Fun game! Gonna keep trying to play the tower and see what other classes there are and try to get deeper. Can't wait for 2Quest!!!
in the end game, you can encounters Troll and Greater Troll. Troll are best killed with attack that ignore armor (like incinerate). They regenerate only up to 50% of their life, so hit them, restore your fatigue, and kill them at once. If you are warrior (rogue have armor piercing and poison that should help them), it is time to get your 2-handed from your backpack :)

There needs to be something to prevent mobs from spawning within sight radius of the portal. I got completely clusterf!cked without even having the chance to move on my most recent run. Completely ran out of stamina and health before I could even get myself safe. At the very least have the stairs spawn in or near a corner so I'm only fighting back baddies from 2 sides instead of 3 or 4. It's literally impossible to hold some of these starting locations, and even more impossible to run away. Losing a run because of pure RNG is just a joke. A really bad joke.
Also, are there any plans for an encyclopedia? Baring that, when a class is discovered let us see what the requirements are to unlock it again the next run. I can understand (but still hate) having no bonuses carried over from your last character... but you can at least let discoveries be persistent.
Class discovery should come once maxed (like spell school). Without stress situation like bad entries, potions are almost useless. I've already reduce the occurrences of wide area in cave and swamp, I'll look about it again

If "Warrior's Stance" has infinite duration, why make the player activate it? Why isn't it a passive, like "Armor Expert"?

@AdamHowell:
Regular attacks and magic both cost stamina(your yellow bar) so either way you can't do it.
That said, you've probably set your spell to autoattack by doubeclicking (or double-pressing the relevant hotkey) the spell. Press it again to cancel that selection and you'll be able to use regular attacks.

This might be a stupid question, but if anyone has an answer I'd appreciate it. I started as a Mage and have no idea how to use any weapon besides my magic. I have a bow and a sword equipped, but when I run out of mana I can't attack any targets no matter how many times I click on them or press 'A'.

Familiars and Summoned Creatures block movement, which makes for game ending bug/glitches when you go down hallways that are only 1 square wide.

my only problem with this is that often the portals down or in the open maps you start completely exposed and surrounded and its instant death. Otherwise a good game.

how do you "win perfect" ? I've won without dying, without fleeing and rescued 3 kids + princess, but didn't make the list

Other music would be nice. Should put in some old school diablo 1 and megaman 2 music :) I would love you forever! Anyway for a store to be put in here? Or is that an anti rogue-like feature? Thanks for your time and the game, friend!

For "high scores" shouldn't "win the campaign" be ranked by how fast you gt it done (how few days it takes you) instead of just a "1" for completed. Might give an incentive to finish faster

It randomly stopped attacking when I would press the appropriate arrow key to hit a mob; the attack nearest button also stopped working :(

I also noted that every single use of RAGE lowers your max energy PERMANENTLY! is that supposed to happen? If yes - it should be in the description...

The build that turned my last levels in to an easy walk in the park: warrior lvl 10, rogue lvl 10,barbarian and knight both lvl 5. This gives awesome defence, extra attacks.with shield and the OP RAGE action of Barbarian. One note though - extra levels in Ranger are FAR better than assasin. Add 5 of them to the above = WIN!

A great start, I really enjoyed it all the way to final caves =) Some notes though:
1) some EXP for throwing away.destroying items. I had tons of items thrown away with 0 payback. Some minor EXP points for that would be great!
2) Encyclopedia - definitively reqired! Got level 5 of Assasin only to see that Ranger is better...!

Enchantment school can win this game by itself. Confuse and Fury are extremely cheap spells. Confuse prevents attacking. Fury stops movement and makes the enemy attack everything in sight, but it DISABLES ranged attacks. Mind Burn is very accurate and deals a lot of damage. Be sure to go Enchanter class so you can affect undead though.

Issues: The UI boxes and text are too small, so I set the UI to 1.5 size. Unfortunately, long item descriptions get cut off when using a larger UI, forcing me to switch UI size to read the description. I can't tell the difference between entrance and exit stairs. Class level up and accompanying skills are explained nowhere. I still don't get what the actions and action keys are for. Questions: I'm pressing A to use ranged weapons. Is there an easier way or a dedicated ranged attack button? Can I do anything useful with extra equipment other than drop it?

annoyingly, auto-explore seems to move once even after spotting an enemy, which allows a group of enemies basically a free round.

Great game bar the lack of information and the exhaustion feature. Got to level 11 of Tower of Chaos only to be stopped by having about 15 energy cap as a transmuter paladin. Need a way to offset the exhaustion, or methods of curing it so healing/buffer classes are more viable.

Has potential, but too many frustrating aspects to be really fun. One monster of the same type in the same location may have 2-3x the HP of it's brethren. Also, the miss-fests, even when you've upgraded you stats, make playing a melee character a masochist only activity.
Tower of the Archmage is a much better rogue-like as your skill and creativity, instead of blind luck, determine how well you can do. Luck-based rogue-likes = bashing head against wall imo.
Make some improvements, and this will be a great game though.

How do I put my skills on the toolbar? I don't understand, I know something pops up every now and then, but I can't do it when I want too. Care to inform?
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
if you're dying a lot, increase your stats first especially CON. focus on class 2nd. Go rogue 5, warrior 5 then Ranger 2, then barbarian 5 for a heal spell, then knight 5 for dual attack using shield, assuming you're not 2-handed. Have fun.

I'm really enjoying this game. I got up to floor 23! I've noticed a couple of bugs though:
1) Smite doesn't consider the lich and the various vampires as undead.
2) Over time, the UI starts to get really laggy, and sometimes the screen doesn't redraw correctly when switching menus. Closing the menus and reopening fixes it though. After this starts happening, when I close the tab, the Flash plugin stop responding. (I'm using Chrome 36 in Windows 7.)

terrible interface, zoom, inventory, skills, item comparisons etc. It should not be more challenging to figure out what you have, sort your inventory, or where you are than it is to actually fight with the enemies.

Its awesome that you are still supporting this game. It currently needs a library for what all the classes you have unlocked do, and a tutorial. Also, maybe let us start as a class we unlocked in a previous run?

Subclass Review/Help for people trying to get info: Arcane Archer(Mage 5, Rogue 5) Rating: Excellent, tough to qualify/expensive.
First level nets you ranged attacks ignoring LOS. Third level gets a passive chance for AoE splinter. Fourth level buffs ranged based on magic affinities. 5th level lets you AoE attack every single foe in range in one shot.
Clears whole screens when built for it in two shots. Fantastic class.

Okay, I beat the game. What is the deal with subclasses? Are they unlocked only during that run? I was under the impression I could use assassin as my default class next run

Description could use more detail on the Legendary Item "Divine Book" - "Unlimited Energy to Spread the Truth" - I cannot tell if this is just flavour. It doesn't appear to do anything obvious to energy. (No change in max, change in costs of holy/death spells, or reduce exhaustion.)

Well, it seems that firemages are waaaaay overpowered. 30th level and killed because of boredom. So, this that's how you roll: gnome mage(get stone missile asap and health buff) Mage(9)->Cleric(5)->Inq(3)->Cleric(10). Well, that's pretty much it. Grab Fire/Holy affinity if possible, take a couple of others just to get all the buffs. Your main spells are magma bolt - for early game, works nicely, latter on - misses to much. then Mind Burn(Ench10) and Incinerate(Trans4). These two put out a lot of damage. These 3 spells all attack different aspects(SpellDef,MentRes and PhysRes), so since each monster is weak at least at smth you will have a chance to hit them. After you had put up your main guns go for protection - some fights will lasts hundreds of turn anyhow. Oracle is nice. Fighter and Rogue are fine too, Punisher gives thorns so you may grab him too. Don't waste too much points on Int - it increases only dmg, and main concern here is to hit something.

Subclass Review/Help for people trying to get info: Inquisitor (Mage 5, Priest 5)
Really beneficial if you've gone the Elf/Fire route as a mage. The first level buffs your fire damage, the second gives a situationally-useful fire spell. The third level is Holy Fire - it gives you one fire focus for every holy you've acquired, minimum 1 due to priest levels. Can be amazing if you've been lucky in your finds. The latter levels are underwhelming - Boiling Blood (Poison Immunity) is useless because Priest/Mage gets Antidote for 1 energy, and the last level gets a 1-range debuff, a place where I never was as a fire-based nuker. Right now a 3-level subclass.
