Classic story line but great use of imagery to create a rather poetic atmosphere out of such a simple and short game. I love the idea of a journey within yourself that materialize into reducing the amount of pixels you're made of (going to the essential or am I reading to much into it ? :p ). Loved the game mechanism, not challenging but not so easy or slow that you'll get bored during the platform and enigma fazes. Even the ending is nice, not being over dramatic or getting the character suddenly become over cheerful ! Overall I had a lot of fun playing it so 5/5 and favorited, great work :)

So, a guy gets rejected repeatedly, then finally gets the girl, then she leaves him, so he goes through depression, battling his mind, then when he thinks he's won, he decides to end it and commits suicide.

As someone who has had me real issues moving on I don't think any game has had quite as much of an effect on me as this one. Thanks, that was truly incredible.

"You thought something cool would happen, didn't you?" I was thinking Hans would jump and fall through the pipe, or the time was going to spring to the negative.

You development blog says that in the end Hans realizes that he shouldn't take others criticism to heart, but in the game all it tells you is that if you are ugly you can't live in the utopia, that the utopia is just a place for the pretty and popular people. The ugly ones must suffer in the painful real world where in the end they still don't find love. While the game itself is good and innovative, altogether it sends a depressing, muddled message about life which players will no doubt misinterpret in the end.
The utopia is Hans's utopia. It's in his mind. He's trying to change the world, and discovers even if the world was just what we wanted it to be, it wouldn't work very well. He decides to grow up, and sadly, adapt to real life.

This is not a normal game it is a life lesson thank you taloketo i hope everyone goes to the extras and realizes how this game stands out.
Spoiler: Pull the lever at the right top most. It's a bit tricky though. Then pull the levers in the right order of bulbs that lights on. First there's only one bulb, pull that. Then it asks you a 2 bulb, it goes on up to 6. You just have to memorize which bulbs light in what order. If you've quit the game, don't worry, there's a save system.

A game about an ugly boy who gets depressed over a pretty girl and then jump off a cliff in his dreams. Uhh... wait, what? At the end, you commit suicide? How is this an acceptable end to your "dreams"? Shouldn't he have, you know, FLOWN instead of FALLEN?

Seems a good game... but i got stuck in the level where everything fall down on you and no restart level button... shall i restart everything?

for anyone who doesnt know how to complete the battle with yourself stage you activate the blue wall and activate the bulbs in order they light up

So if you are ugly and can't get a girl, the problem is you and you should kill yourself?
Or wasn't that the message you were trying to send, after all, he does kill his bigger self, and then commits suicide.

I want to say you chose the name Hans because of the Simpsons. :) Great combination of a platformer/interesting graphics/good music/meaningful storyline! 4/5 from me.

It's not clear what to do in the "battle with yourself" area and I can't be arsed to figure it out. Not at 1 AM anyhow. Nice game nonetheless, maybe I'll come back someday.

I've always said that the first step to growing up is recognizing that what you want and what you get have nothing to do with each other. It's a valuable - if generally depressing - lesson.

Hehe I thought this game was gonna be some retro platformer from the title of it... it wasn't really but was still a nice surprise. Sounds like this story is stemming from a real life experience. Let me tell you... yeah the hot girls in high school are very pretty, but it's the quiet, shy, cute Asian girl sitting by herself at lunch that is the true prize!!

if you take the top path at the end you just end up having to jump back down, theres nothing up there
this game didn't send off a very good message to me, if your ugly, learn to accept it, you can't have the pretty girl, "explore yourself" then go jump off a cliff to your death and end up in the afterworld which looks like the friend zone in black and white

Those blocks at the end are not just for decoration. You can jump on them, then up to the ceiling. Unfortunately, I didn't feel like going to whole way and didn't see what was up there. Anyone who reads the comments before playing, please tell me what's up there!

I think the castle is a representation of his confined restricted emotions and thinking. Now he is free. Except for the barbed wire fence in the background at the end. Mental Hospital?
