This is a great game and way to learn! Thanks! You know what would be even greater? A sequel focussing on some easy Kanji!

Endless suffering is the woe of ignorant men who never lack to seek the depth of their own hearts and only see the wealth of a poor world suffering to flay its own back in knife wounds of silver and brutal gladness.

The "h" and "n" latin characters look a lot alike in the font you're using, it can make it a bit hard to tell whether someone's saying "ne" or "he," for example, which makes for a bit of an annoying challenge during the faster obstacle destroy parts.

Takkun. You. You... I love you! I was learning Kanji and ran out of motivation, despite I haven't learnt Katakana.
This is like a fresh spring of motivation to continue learning Japanese and making the whole process more fun! You're a God, Takkun!

Yay for the illusion of learning Japanese! Except that learning Hiragana and Katakana is easy, can be done in a week. Now Kanji? That's the real problem with Japanese. In usual languages you learn the letters and the sounds, then it's all about grammar and pronunciation, learning meaning and context, that usually takes a couple of years, in Japanese we have the bonus of spending ANOTHER couple of years learning Kanji.

I would suggest adding sound to this game, as in every time a ninja is shot, he would scream the sound of the symbol. I learned a bit of japanese on a website and it helped having a sound so I wouldn't say chi as "shi" instead of "tchi"

Another fabulous game from our favorite creator Tukkun. It's a very good educational tool for learning Japanese. 5/5.

si/し is is significantly inconvenient input, it has not yet been implemented. Both all Roman pattern otherwise the Hepburn system should incorporate completely. I'm getting to the half-hearted Japanese study.
Hi, I'm not exactly sure what you mean but if you mean that the game doesn't accept "si" as し, you need to change the input option in the main menu to "Any" from "Hepburn". Please tell me if that's not what you mean or it still doesn't work.

I feel like this is the best way for a gamer to start learning a new language. It works just like my brain works. Great job, Tukkun!
Yeah - When we had to take a Japanese course last semester, most of us were very overwhelmed by the thought of having to learn two new "alphabets" in two weeks. After the first lesson, I just could not distinguish between the 20 hiragana that I learned that day. That's why I thought to myself, "why not make a GAME to learn all of that?", and so this game was born. The results were as expected: I managed to memorize all the kana in two weeks, and my classmates played this game every day as well. Our class also got higher grades than other classes in previous semesters. Of course this game on its own is not enough, but when taken in conjunction with a Japanese course, it's just the best thing ever! (And yes, the prototype version of this game only took a few hours to make)

This game is genius! You should create a katakana version as soon as possible, especially since most of learners find it more difficult to learn than hiragana.
I will have my student try this next lesson :D
Are you a Japanese teacher? Nice to meet you! This game has both hiragana and katakana. The Adventure Mode allows learners to learn in a recommended order through 49 game stages (katakana stages come after hiragana), and Free Play Mode allows learners to practice what they want (you can even select just the characters you have learned that lesson!). Your students can play in Free Play Mode to skip all the boring hiragana practice and practice the exact things that they need to practice. If you decide to let your students try this, I would be very glad to hear what your students think about this game!

You know what? You should have put "かなワォリ: From the creator of Anti-Idle: The Game" as the description or tagline instead.
:P I actually have some plans for crossover rewards between two games. Maybe something like when you complete this game, you get a crown hat to wear in Anti-Idle's Battle Arena! Something like that :P

I'm giving this game a 5/5 because it could teach the Japanese alphabet for people who, unlike me, can actually learn a second language. If I voted based on how much I liked playing it, it would be a 1/5, but only because I can't learn other alphabets (and languages).

Ah, the memories of cramming a section of 5 Hiragana characters every day during my downtime in the Spanish class I never wanted are coming back to me. I never liked that class, not because of the teacher, but because of the students and my reluctance towards learning Spanish since I wanted to learn Japanese first but my school screwed up my schedule and never gave me my Jap 1 class like they were supposed to. Ended up only getting half an education about Japanese since I was only able to take 1 of the 2 classes. Anyway, as for suggestions, I think some music is in order, listening to nothing but laser blasts puts you in a trance and makes it hard to differentiate between all the characters. Otherwise, I love the game, it's perfect for someone wanting & willing to learn the language.
Thanks for your feedback! I intentionally put no music in so that the file size is smaller (which means less loading and less lag), and so that you can listen to your own music! You're free to open your favorite song in your music player and listen to that while playing this game!
I noticed. This is a minor visual bug that I have been trying to fix. The shaking should not be too distracting though... unless you have some massive lag, I guess?

Acceleration needs to be variable also.
Shortly after the start of easy is just the right difficulty for me, but after a couple of minutes I don't have enough time to focus on (And thus learn) the characters.
Thank you for your feedback. The design decision in Free Play Mode is that things will get faster over time, so that the game eventually ends at some point, and how long you can survive depends on how fast you can read the characters. Memorizing the characters is important, but you should also learn to read the characters more quickly to be able to deal with the increasing speed. And if you want to always play at such a slow speed, well, nothing stops you from simply starting another game!

Thats nice, will take few weeks, but definetly worth it (learning)... Since i watched too many animes with japanese speech, and have learned hundreds of words which i cant write at all. You (developer) can and should do a second game like this, with, maybe, some words learning? I mean 'payed game', cus thats just worth money (free to play with transactions).

Tukkun could probably make anything good, the graphics aren't even bad somehow that come off as charming, oh and finally that one year of japanese is paying off like it hasn't...really...at all. Other than being able to fit it with anime fans :P

Thanks for the glowing reviews, everyone! It was such a delight to see that an educational game I originally made for a school project is so well-received on Kongregate and to see that it was featured as one of the best new games on the front page. A big thank you for everyone who made this happen!

Cute! Just a couple of recommendations: many Japanese character input systems recognize both "tu" and "tsu" for つ. Ditto for things like "ju" and "jyu" for じゅ。Otherwise, thanks for sharing! がんばって日本語をべんきょうしましょうKongregate! :)
EDIT: Done! You can now enable that option in the main menu. ----------------------------------------------------------------- You're indeed correct about that, but my main aim when creating this game was not to create a Japanese typing game, but a game to help people learn Japanese, and for that, I think I should make it allow Hepburn romanization only (at our school we are forced to use Hepburn). Though, I'll definitely consider making an option to allow other inputs. Thanks!

1st stage : Learn a and i (あい). We learn love at the beggining, and we kill people to do this !! (ai = あい(愛)= Love) ... 愛おぼえてますか
That's an interesting idea. In fact, there was a kanji feature in my school project but I removed it from the Kongregate edition, because I don't really have an idea how to properly implement kanji into a game. What would you do with it? Make the people memorize the on and kun readings (for which there isn't a definite list)? Readings of specific words? Meanings? Or just boring multiple-choice stuff you see everywhere?

Hi! I never thought i would find a way to learn japanese on Kong ^^ Thank you very much to share your school project with us! Lucky classmates they are! I would just suggest maybe two things 1) to increase the speed, the impossible speed is not impossible, just medium/normal actually 2) maybe a way to save sets in free way mode? like i have difficulty to learn this 20 hiragana i will made a set with them and a secund set with this katakana. So i can change easily between the two sets without having to select/deselect everything each time? else 5/5 great! Make a secund project with vocabulary next time! ;)
1) The speed increases as you play, so the beginning might not be too fast but after a few minutes things will get quite chaotic ;) And in any case impossible speed was not designed to be completely unplayable. | 2) That's an interesting idea! I will probably look into that for a future version. But if you simply want to switch between a set of hiragana and a set of katakana, you can simply tick/untick the corresponding boxes in the Free Play screen. Thank you very much for your feedback!

I gave it a 5/5 stars because it's Tukkun, and Tukkun is great! (and because my sister is learning Japanese. Oh, and it's fun.)

FIRST! I actually created this game for a school project, but I figured some people might be interested in a Japanese learning game, so I have made some modifications to the project to turn it into a complete game with Kongregate API and stuff! I hope this will turn the beginning of your Japanese learning into a fun and easy experience, like it did for my classmates! I appreciate any feedback!
よろしくおねがいします。
