As a Japanese person I'm happy to see people interested in Japanese language. It's great making something to encourage people's knowledge \^0^/

Japanese is the 9th most common language after, Mandarin, Spanish, English, Hindi, Arabic, Portuguese, Bengali, and Russian. That is hardly considered dead, and considering Japan is the tech hub of the world Japanese is one of the more important languages to know.

If I wanted to be educated, I would go to school. I come to Kongregate to play games, not to be enrolled in some second-rate foreign language class. I give this game a 1/5.
How is that any different from your SuperQuiz5000 "game"? That's not to even mention that your "game" isn't even a game at all, while this one at least has some gameplay value in it.
The game would accept "jya" for じゃ, but not ぢゃ. Maybe that's the case for you? ぢゃ is normally just "ja" (or "dya" / "zya"), and I haven't seen any romanization system that uses "jya" for that. I might be wrong though.
I understand that you might want that to spice things up a bit, but Adventure Mode is mostly targeted at new learners who don't have much prior knowledge of kana (memorizing them all is difficult enough already!), and the later stages do get quite fast. But if you are into a "hard mode", feel free to test yourself in Free Play! The "impossible" difficulty of Free Play is faster than the hardest stages of Adventure Mode, and things also get faster over time.

Hi everyone! I have updated the game to version 3.11, adding some of the missing romanizations (ca, co, cu, ci, ce, yi, qu). Note that to use non-Hepburn romanizations, you have to switch input mode in the top right corner of the main menu to "Any" (default is "Hepburn Only"). Thank you everyone for playing Kana Warrior! I understand that although rating has dropped drastically (0.35 stars) since this game got badges, it is mostly because this game doesn't appeal to a wide audience :P I made this mostly to aim at people who are learning or interested in learning Japanese, and this is a gaming website after all :P Although I kind of wish people were somewhat more generous with ratings, I understand that it's probably impossible (you're likely thinking "ehh why would I play this game I don't want to learn Japanese at all 1/5"), and it's still really delightful to see that many people enjoy this game and find it helpful. Thank you all!
Version 3.12 is now available as well. A few more missing romanizations are added, and default input mode for new players is now "Any" because that seems to be the more popular choice.

One of the best games ever on Kong, period! I am sure I won't regret spending minutes and hours on this little treasure :P Thank You

For those who are struggling, take a pic with your phone of the symbols you are going to need and put the phone next to your keyboard :)
True, and they are overall more comprehensive. But this game is a useful way to test yourself nonetheless, and it allows you to realize many of your "mistakes", and let you know which characters you still haven't memorized and you wouldn't know that otherwise. My classmates and I all used this game in the beginning of our Japanese course, and we all agreed that this game was helpful. Not to say that books are faster or slower, but books don't render this game pointless.

I think I see katakana more often and wanted to learn those first. Don't really want to keep working through hiragana to get there. Maybe if I ever take a Japanese course I could use this as good review.

I think there's a problem with saves and the current version. Someone in the A:TG chat room was talking about how their game isn't saving at all. I had gotten up to level 21 this morning, and when I loaded it up just now I was back to level 15 (where I had stopped last night)

Also there is a small glitch in the Obstacle Destroy levels. When you try to choose the correct answer right after hitting the wrong one then it will count the right answer as wrong.

Hi all! I have updated the game to version 3.10, making it so that in Typing Defense stages, if there are no enemies on screen then the next enemy will spawn immediately. This will reduce unnecessary wait time when playing Typing Defense stages. Thank you all for playing, and I appreciate your feedback!

After reading the instructions (I don't usually read instructions that aren't in the game itself), I decided to try out free mode, and it was an enjoyable experience. Fun mini-games and good speeds (hard/impossible). 5/5
