Very nice game/expansion. Just balancing is bit wrong, melee units are more than useless as well as archers. There is no reason why not to use only 3 mages thus leadership is useless also :) Finished game without losing single time with fire-wizard-archwizard cold-wizard-archwizard energy starting hero - trainee-archwizard. When at least alittle focusing in magic u nearly do not need to touch your units and ingame level them as they do so massive dmg that eve vs strong they annihilate. Anyway nice game but kinda no challenge :) was bit too easy. Would nice to see some magic resistance/miss chance vs mages so archers would be used also, melees are just bad as they ignore flying units.

How do you get additional stores? I have maxed out relations with several factions and the only shops available are the kingdom store and mountain mans.

I still cant play the game. The menu keeps flashing its entrance animation and I still cant click anything, is no one else having this problem???

Although I appreciate all the options that you keep adding to the game, it is getting a bit overwhelming. I mean just after the first battle there are skill points to spend, items to equip and heroes to unlock, while I still don't know anything about the proper tactics to use. So I'd like it if all the different options are unlocked step by step so I get some time to get used with them

I never reviewed Protector IV, so this is sort of a joint review. The unit skill system is interesting (being based on xp alone), but it seems a little complex. Honestly, I miss the old level-up system, but skill trees aren't that bad. I really like the idea of interchangable heroes that command different types of units, but I'm not a fan of items. Having to sort through a crapload of barely-different items to min/max each hero makes things too complex for me.
Oh, and please, a 5x speed button :D

@DrZaius, select fire and cold specialists and equip them with some extra lives gear. The physical and energy cancel each other out in effectiveness. Splash can help along with a melee or two. Hope that helps, that board my be the toughest in the game.

Well i got this one from looting, but sometimes i can get some fancy items from Jones camp. I for example got a 500% luck potion :D. And its worth like 6000 gold.

@mevtwo22
hey i got the same item there^^ but with 5 wisdom and 5 specialism great for my thief units
and 49% gold return with +9 live and 10% steal.
who said items from jones's suck? sometimes he give great item
doing the quest there with only 2 units again and again for lvling

Well i am not sure if this is just an spelling glicth but this item (Gloves of Forboding ) Gives me 5 wisdom, 5 leadership and f**king 67% gold return. That a lot compared to the other items. Seriusly 67% But it kind of match with its worth 2167 gold and i even found it doing the level Toothy issue.

Protectorate units is very strong after all. I can put some archers with concertate and easy win any map. Balancing is needid, i think.

People really need to stop with the whole "+ this because I said to" trend.
How many "+ this" comments do you see in the Best comments anyways? For this game, none. And for many others, 1 or 2...
People should try their best to make their comments worth rating + instead of telling people that their comment is so good that it has to be given pluses.
With that said, have a good day, all. :)

This game is very good, needs some more balancing.
Like armour, there are only a few critters with reasonably armour, the last boss, had a armour of 15.
I used ranged units this time, and in basic, I won every game with only 2 crossbows (tyrian) (after some leveling)
Once you put 100 bowmen , you get the "archery expert" then do only the Quest 'chase the dragon" of the legion of Tyria (only 5 levels) to max out your relations, you get a 15% boost on damage, also put your experience into "ranged" Buy lot's of the "Arrow flingers" gear at the forest friends shop (+6 ranged / +4 wisdom) -> piece of cake!
Also something I noticed is that you always have 3 heroes selected, if you play with only one, the bonuses of the items of the other 2 heroes count also!
so put 6 guardian bands (kingdom store) into your heroes and you have 30 extra life's and have to pay 20 GP for paving, I don't know if this is a bug :)

@Selva Melee units make up for it by dealing a very large amount of damage relative to ranged, and some ranged units get bonus damage against air to make up for this. You might see ranged units as better overall but how I see it is that a combination of units, not dumping all my points into one category, as a much better strategy. Down vote that noob.

I dont think its likely that there is going to come badges. The actual game already has and this is just and expansion. My opinion is that the game already has badges.

It would be good if the owned items can be sorted, for example start the list with +leadership, start with +lives ... because when you have 4-5 pages of items it is a little bit tough.

Beast strategy. Screw archers and swordsmen. Get a poison dude with 2 mages and an energy dude with 2 mages. Max out magic use in everything. I've completed the game without losing once and never repeating a map. It doesn't really matter what kind you get, but shoot for the wizard and arch wizard, having 3 and 4 range is insane. You may start slow and things look grim, but by the end I'm beating 25 wave maps with 2 and 3 units having a couple thousand gold left at the end

@Frapmans The heroes appear at your home base (the white flag that you start with). I'm not sure if they appear randomly or only appear after x turns. Once you get 5 recruit-ables, make sure to shoo some out so that you'll have space for other heroes to come in. Sometimes new heroes won't appear after missions sometimes they do, though not very sure.

In Protector V, Why Don't You Make Units Immune To Ranged And Magic As Well Like Flying Is To Melee, Like For Magic Maybe: "Antimagic", And For Ranged Maybe: "Thick Armor" (Like Thick Enough To Block Arrows).

Love the protector games! That said this one is no disappointment, but it appears that I can't unlock new stores. Must be a glich, I have been playing for 8 hours and only four stores unlocked.

@Shadowssb. There is actually another way around Forged Metal. The Guardian unit is the ONLY melee unit that has a range of 2 squares. He also has consecration. If his element is physical (Like Protector Charay) then you can take on everything. Add in your unit of choice that debuffs, and you've got a good thing going.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
cyriac: There are two things to notice for Forged Metal: a) Elements - if you use physical type units, you'll lose to the Beetles, and if you use lots of Energy type units, you'll lose to the Cave Lich, if not before. Poison doesn't make much sense either, since several of the enemies are strong against it, so that leaves just Fire and Cold. It shouldn't matter too much which you choose, but from memory I think you have more player skills the boost Fire at that point in the game, so I'd use that. b) at 1500 health and 17 armour, those beetles in wave 14 are hard, but there are no flying enemies. You need a lot of punch to break through them, because they all come at once. That suggests melee units, which tend to have higher base damage, along with a hero carrying three high-power swordplay-boosting items would be the way to go - although any strategy which can give you lots of units all dealing a lot of damage at once would work. The level is a harder version of The Treasure Hunt.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
@Odriew: It means the unit deals full damage plus the consecration % to enemies strong against its element (that's what I heard anyway, and it seems accurate).
