Forged Metal: 2nd to last wave's beetles strategy... 1. Line the edges with Physical Crossbows and max slowing rates. 2. Add Huskarls and max their damage to deal 100-300 to each beetle. 3. Had a good number of Archmages with max warp. Beetles were slowed greatly, teleported back to the beginning fairly often, and took big damage from Huskarls... Not too difficult at all.

Made the badge with Defender Jameson and the consecrated attacks. Pump up his ranged all the way, get good rep and buy +6 ranged gloves from the forest friends store, pumped up range all the way to max, and then put the rest into leadership for cheap upgrades. I put all my +life stuff on the 2 other heroes for added security, way too easy.

....heh, actually combined both tricks: concentrated trainees at the very beginning to debuff, then used consecrated defenders after. Still was a close thing, but I got it. Moving on....
I think one way to make melee units more appealing would be to give some ranged units the ability: "wing-bind" What it would do is shoot a line that would tangle wings for 2 secs, plus whatever bonuses from leveling the skill, plus whatever bonuses from specialism. After a wing bind, then melee units can hit flying units as long as the wing-bind skill is still active on the target.

I'm having problems with one of the storyline missions: "Forged Metal". I'm great up until the last 2 waves. the second to last wave is a literal horde of beetles with 1500hp each, and then the last wave is a lich with 7000 hp. the problem is, the beetles weak to energy but strong against physical (I mean, with 30 archery and 9 elemental, I still only do 2 or 3 pts of damage to them with ranged physical attacks), and the lich is weak to physical, but ABSORBS energy.
I tried using a "neutral" element, but again, the beetles just have too many hps, and I can only get about half of them. I have a unit with consecrate, but it's only for fire. However, is that the solution? get a unit with consecrate and the right element?

Everytime I stop playing, I lose levels, heros, and items. Whats up with that? I love this game but its getting really frustrating when I dont have what I had before.

Did anybody else notice that you can create massive ammounts of gold using a game bug? I get as many xp-bonus items as I can click on right now. :)

on my 1st playthrough of this version vs. IV. I like the more organized quest chains much better!
as usual, my favorite hero is Diamond Blaze. First thing I do is work on changing his mage to a council wizard. the combination of wizard range and slow ability, combined with the infection, speed, and sheer damage of the warlock is just brutal. He always seems to manage any fire mission entirely single-handed, even from starting level.

how does this game not have shortcuts to send the next wave and get that proceed popup out of the way? you'd think after 5 games of this and who knows how many updates this would've been one of the first improvements

Wow, the "Hold the Gates!" mission never activated for me so I spent nine hours bored out of my mind replaying the same storyline quests over and over trying to get the highest regard from five other sects before finally coming back to the Council of the Magi... I thought that winning everyone over might finally trigger the next story mission or unlock some of the other stores! I've been playing this series since Protector One before it even came to Kongregate, but I have to say that this version has some serious problems...

I'm a good fan of protector games, they are very fun to play. I think they should be a hotkey for pressing proceed and then start the new wave, for when you're strong enough, you just go through it like nothing. A pause button can be considered for less chaos and time to think. An ultra high speed button can be fun! The experience points for you(the leader) was quite slow. However, the units were quite fun to play around with. ^.^

I found it logical and fun to have all rangers. Skirmishers are awesome. They are so strong and are experts and murdering flying guys. Archers never take a break. In my personal skills I raised archery as well. I am not far in but all 6 of my heroes can't hit much under 50 even on their worst element. :D LOVE archers!

Actually, undefined, element switching items *do* still excist. You can get them by Arkandia Jones' camp. You must have forgotten to take those out. (+ so he'll see this message)

why is it that i have played this game for days upon days, epicly destroying all corrupters...and yet the very LAST story line i chose to complete ended up being the tyrian story line? i beat every single level other than that one =P lol

I think Protectors I throught III were superior to the IV and IV.V iterations. I think the game added complication in upgrade system without adding fun value.

I don't know how many times I've lost because of the flying units. Completely unbalanced how the ranged units are nearly as powerful as the melee units, have more range, AND can hit flying units. Flying units bring this game from 4/5 to 2/5

Great game. What would put it over the top is if the units had targeting options, i.e. units that cause infection target units that aren't already infected, as opposed to always attacking the creeps closest to the exit.

So ... just a thought about the trees with low hit rates: how about a small (1%?) xp boost for that character when it triggers as an extra reward for picking that path? What do you guys think?

maybe there could be a target modifiers like aim for the first guy or the last guy that way people with slowing or poison abilities could affect more enemies

@swordalchemist that is not how the comment system works, people - comments when they are spam or not good quality. getting -20 does not mean people like you it means your comment was not related to the game at all

getting tired of owning a map, up until a wave full of about 50 flyers, the ranged can't hit hard enough, wish melee had atleast 50% chance to hit flying creatures, then I might actually finish a quest
