Best strategy ever : Get a poison hero and dig up easy gold and exp at good to be bad storyline quest. 20k gold and high level hero in NO time!

this is a exact clone of the previous versions all he really did was update it by adding more units/monster types no real improvements, even the starting 3 heroes are the exact same

Turn up the speed, chrissakes.
Also I don't see a reason why anyone would use melee when a simple bat is completely unaffected by the most powerful paladin. Ranged and magic have a huge advantage there, and melee doesn't offer anything they don't; in fact, ranged and magic -also- have a gigantic range compared to the 1 that melee gets.
So there's no type of enemy they can't hit, -and- they can hit them from further away. I repeat - why would anyone want to use melee?

tehroxi they need adverts to pay for the site the bigger it gets the more money it needs and they dont last that long so dont complain

@2pur4ulol you can't remove an unit from the map. If you want to change an unit your hero uses, then you need an item like the requisition order in the kingdom store.

For some reason, I know that this game is really similar to the last ones, but I can't seem to stop playing, even if I have to attempt a level 5 times to beat it. 4/5

anyone noticed that when you look at the numbers at the lower left of the screen that shows the incoming enemies doesn't show the stats of the enemies anymore? like in protector IV? well,anyways, epic game. waiting for protector V. more power to undefined

I can appreciate an expansion pack. However, don't bill it as a "new" game when you didn't even bother to fix the typos from the original version. Oh, and element change as an item property still exists, so why are saves broken?!
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Incredible! With all the content in this game, you can spend hours at this. And I liked the factions concept-gives you a pat to choose in the game. Can't wait for Protector V!

this game seriously needs a more intuitive way to level up your towers. having to exit out of every window and click on skill menu for each unit to level is unessiary, simply make it so when you do click to level up a tower, it shows skills first and click to see stats. a key bound to exiting menus would also be nice, as well as a key to hit to upgrade... such as the top line would be 1/2/3 secound level 4, 5, last tier 6 7 8 for each row... just my 2cp :D

I still can't get friendly with using Hero's and their defined elemental affinities for unit creation. I liked the method used im first three games better and hope you get back to it. I also miss the talent tree.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
How is this different from IV? Also, when I close the skill tree can the game not ask me if I want to pave the spot underneath? That is such an obvious and annoying flaw from IV, why would it not be fixed in IV.V?

"Hey guys, the exit is right next to where we came in, le- OMG A PENNY WAAAY AT THE OTHER END! Lets go down there, and THEN come back and leave!"

Great expension, but you still can't know what new units do untill you used em. A mouse over disciption of unit capabilities such as splash, would be handy.

Few things you might want to consider changing: (1) Provide some indicator of which missions are complete and which aren't. (2) In the home base, provide a comparison between heroes so you can see if its worth hiring new ones without having to go back and forth. (3) Give new heroes serious upgrades or nerf the original heroes. There isn't enough of an incentive to buy new heroes after the old ones are upgraded unless you want to grind them up again.

I really love your defense games, you really take it to a whole 'nuther level!
I can't wait for number 5, I know it will be legend......dary!

This is getting old as the protector series is very repetitive. If you don't make protector 5 an epic game, go castrate yourself.

Seriously, Defender Jamison of The Protectorate has the Patrolman unit. Range of three, upgrades are consecration and air unit bonus. Once I got him, I have used nothing else. If Fire is a strength of a unit, I just use Consecrate as the first upgrade. I've put all upgrade points into Ranged units for both player and Hero skills. Has a range of 3, excellent base damage, and rapid fire rate. He looks to be enough to beat every board single-handedly.

A way to automatically sort items by traits would be very nice, or maybe different catagories. It's a pain in the butt to have to go through all of them to find one specific item.

@Guolin: True, although he is the best melee afaik, and there is the talent that requires only melee units (easy enough to do on a 5 wave map).
Magiwizard is meh, Archwizard is okay for the range. Imo range isn't a huge issue once you get to 37 Magic or Sword, its pretty much instakills even with no upgrades. I haven't tried the other magic chars yet, but I think Chaos Mage and Chaos Warlock have better stats (due to faster attack speed)

If you find this game boring and has no stradegy involved, then start a new save file and DONT do what you did the previous time =D
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
ive played a few of the other protector games but none of them keep me this interested as this one, like the heros, stats, quests, over all great game 5/5

@Darreck: Protector Cataclysm says hi.
===============
@Moloto_Matt: Melee units are really lackluster compared to ranged units. If you try to use melee units, then you'll need at least a few ranged units for anti-flying, and even a few probably won't cut it. Focusing on only ranged units allows for potentially even greater damage, due to Protector's experience mechanic. Also, melee units tend to have crap range (I don't think I've even seen a single melee unit with a range higher than 1), again severely weakening it due to both experience mechanic and getting the best bang for your buck. I run a pure-Magi combination (i.e. 3 Magi heroes) and have reached max reputation with Magi and Arkandia, so I'm not some random noob that doesn't know what he's talking about.
