It says that you SPEND money and experience when you upgrade an unit. However, when I upgrade an unit I get EXTRA experience. Is that a bug?
And does it make a difference in experience of leaders if you upgrade their units or not?

Its not a bad game, but i personally dont think it holds up to the rest of the series, I could deal with different heroes leveling up and having different units but the set element is what really anoys me. There are some levels that i need a fire unit which i have but all the enemies are flying, what gives, the electric does crap against that :( i like choosing the element as i go, maybe for next installment have unit types be bought instead of heroes and let elements be chosen upon creation

tip: do not buy more than three -10 paving cost items; this is the maxumum (so 50 -30 -5 from skills = 15 is the lower I've got until now)

the combi fire thief
Electric skirmisher
and cold Watcher pwned all maps for me (most used the thiefes since theyr just speed kill machines with nice loot chance and quite nice dmg and huge range most used just them with changing elements but in the end you will need the combi above or better sayd i needed it :>)

what to do to get critical shots? I've been going only with archwizards (for the 5 range and decent 10 power also nice speed)
I've got both the hard badges but not the easy one? what unit get's critical shots?

Since it seems to be gone from the comments, after you hire a hero if you leave the cursor where it is on "hire hero" and keep clicking, you get 1 gold per click. It does work. Try it. Give this comment a +1 if it works for you.

Thanks for adding in the speed up button, could there be an option to auto send waves as well? Having to click proceed then start wave gets just a wee bit annoying.
But yea, concentrating on one hero makes this game a bit too easy, no real point in even changing elements eventually as long as you have 3 heroes that complement each other's weakness (or just boost elements I assume) and melee isn't needed at all - not sure what you can do about that since range is just purely much better as you no longer worry about air waves.

The game is too easy and there are too many variables. Having to deal with hero XP, your XP, faction relations, millions of achievements, objects and different units just means that none of them matter that much. Upgrade something somewhere and you're fine.

I seem to be alone in that I find this the weakest installment of the Protector series. I like the concept of in-game achievements (which feel balanced), but I don't like the new leveling system or the built-in affinities. A lot of these maps are reused maps, and though you can beat the game without repeating a single map (I did), the game seems to imply that you should grind- to wit, the achievements give you bonuses if you get 8 or 15 points in elemental affinities, and I leveled a total of 20 times through the -whole game-. Most of your points end up going into leadership to make sure you have heroes that can handle the maps. The game is, however, very pretty and smooth, lacking a lot of the bugs we've seen in the past.

gg, but I'm a bit confused on something...the only heroes that keep showing up at my camp are physical, fire, and energy. That's literally all I've had show up. Yet some of these levels are calling for cold and poison. I noticed that crossbowmen can slow, and archmages can poison...does that mean they are of the cold and poison elements, respectively? A bit confused as I haven't seen any cold or poison heroes yet...bad luck?

wow, this game is so gay. its like you get to the last wave then some guys come in and just swarm you and you die. Then you take almost nothing. this game has some serious balancing issues!!

Sorry, prefer the old ones . Where is the challenge, in this one ? I pass nearly all the levels with 1 guy, flawless . Watchers are TOTALLY broken, especially with element changing AND the boosts from hero AND the boosts from the summoner . You end up with ridiculously high amount of damages if you spe in range, and just put this solo guy racking up all the kills on a level . Only fail on a few of the very small maps with few creeps . Still, a funny game, but pls, give us the challenge back, remove those crazy watchers .

Well it's a huge step backwards from Reclaiming the throne if you ask me. All that freedom with creating units we had back then plus the fact the maps were genuinely challenging with almost each one needing a different strategy made it much more fun. Not to mention artifact collecting is quite tedious.

Anyone know how to get the stealing talents? I've loaded up on stealing equipment and have the 2 talents that increase my stealing check by 5% but I still havent even gotten the steal 200 gold one.

I don't find this 4th opus of Protector is the best upgrade of all, but anyway, it's still one of the best and challenging TD on computer. Long live to the authors.

wow, i ranted and raved earlier about it being just mages attacking from afar, now in the middle of the games its just close range, im boned no matter what i do

OMFG there's a Barney Stinson suit up skill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!@$!@$#!$$!$!$!$!$!$! 5/5!!!! Oh and also the game is brilliant :P

Element changing is broken, I think. My element changed units do way less damage than units naturally associated with a given element.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
info on units is too insufficient. I should know the exact abilities of the units. melee is horribly imbalanced and the game doesn´t encourage to try all the units - thats very sad - it just encourages to focus on one hero and element changing items
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Also, there are too many flying enemies. It almost becomes pointless using anything but characters with ranged attacks. That's a balancing issue that this game suffers from. I also don't like how limited my troops are in battle, since I can only choose three at a time. So I'm stuck with three types whereas in previous games, there were no such limitations. I picked whatever types as needed.

Hey sly, I have a Gifted with my watcher and i just buy cheese to change their spec. its the only hero I use. Gifted can hit like a damn truck

Anyone find any units particularly useful?
Currently I'm having awesome results with:
Advanced unit: Chaos Warlock (fire) - fast shooters, great poisoning ability, all round killing machines.
Basic unit: Watcher (water) - I think anything that gains power from kills has enormous potential
Melee unit: Augment (poison... but that's about the least useful type), these brutes are wonderful for when you can get away with just melee (last stages of maps mostly).
Using different mixes of these three most/all maps are fairly easy, but I'm wondering if anyone has found anything better.

The game seems really well made but there are A LOT of typos throughout and leveling up in the game takes a loooo...oooooong time. But it's still great, fun Protector-style gameplay.

Awesome game! Found a decent strategy. Do whatever you can to find a guy in the cult who has the 25g Watcher. On your heroes just max out Tactics and then get items to boost your attack. I beat most all maps by placing 1 or 2 watchers and just sent wave after wave. Even the 20 wave maps I beat by putting 2 units down. Archers hitting for 200? yes please!

I have to agree, it needs hotkeys for the most common actions, *especially* dismissing whichever window is in front.
Perhaps put the tech tree and stats windows into one window. Either way it'll block the play area, but at least that way you don't have to click four times to upgrade each unit.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
First off, I like the protector games. I like this one too, but not as much. The previous games were fun because it was a challenge to use what was available to you to win. In this game it is far too easy to overload one stat and win without doing anything else. There are many interesting options here... but they are mostly useless
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
it would entail less clicking if we could move the character skill tree window around and simply just click on the next character that we want to view the skills of, instead of having to continually close Character A's skill tree window just to click on Character B and view/upgrade his skills. this seems like a minor gripe, but when there's a handful of characters aspiring for a level-up, it feels more tedious than it should.

STILL, after all the sequels, you REFUSE to put a faster speed up option. I have no clue why you don't want to help out the person playing your game, but oh well... Still 5/5 because it's a great game, but seriously... NEEDS A FASTER SPEED UP!!

Hm, I'm having a problem with the save file on this game. The auto-saving process doesn't seem to be working, it will not find any saved game after I quit. This is not happening to me for other games, so I'm assuming it is something with the interaction between my computer and this specific game. A save function would make it easier for me to work out what is going wrong.

The hydra quest IS NOT broken you have to clear he 4 grass tiles in the middle. please + as lots off ppl commented about this.
