3/5 : playable, but, map is confusing; the item system is messy : every type of items can give you any types of bonuses, they are very hard to compare; what is the point of advance units sometimes they are less powerfull than normal ones...

Man I've been around since this game wasn't even on kongregate, only some backwash site I never heard of. It was just "defender" and i was hooked the instant I saw it. Now look at this game, how far its come from a simple 5 level game with little significance. This is brilliance, how fast one can improve and expand. This game has come a long way in the three years it has been around. Congratulations, developer.

Different than other parts of this series this game does not need any tactical or even strategical sense to beat it. In the end it's just about grinding or finding the right button in a confusing menu. Very disappointing developement.

Does anyone know how to get the talent scrolls which I can not find in the store?
I need such talents like plainwalker and craftsman etc but I can't find them in the store even I finished the storyline...

Great game. The original Protector was what first caused me to discover Kongregate and this is by far my favorite of the series. I had high expectations and this game exceeds them.

Great game to the devoloper I must say you have outdone yourself greatly. You took aspects from the last games, improved them and put them back in. You improved the plot more. You have wowed me. I played the other Protecter games but this is just like Halo 3 compared to Halo 1 when you compare this to your earlier games. I am not even saying your earlier games are bad but this one just outdid them all by that much.

There's a problem with the Scouting Report on the quests. It marks some waves as flying, when they're not flying when you get in the map. for example, i just had it tell me 3x that there were flying snakes in this level. there aren't.

Nice Game. 5/5 ....BUT...its toooooo easy !!!!! Protector I-III were challenging. But this IV, is for newbies. Please make it more challenging. At least at some maps, for "high skilled" players. I beat the game only using the 3 starting heroes....including almost all sidequests. Waaayyyy to easy.Add some more challenging maps. Sorry for my bad english.

@Da_gangsta4 nono. Best are barbarian. Skirmishers to be exact. With the fully upgraded skill against flying units, one skill that gives +40, with 36 points in ranged skill in my heroes skill list, they deal 400 + dmg to flying units. And about 1520 - 180 normaly. With critical on flying i scored even 1000+. Its rare i know, but yes u can work it out ! This setup is best for the thrones. For selaed throne at best. I did it with only two of those skirmishers. And the dmg u deal ( like 400 dmg to flying units without critical ) thats uber high. BTW use psysical element there !

So like, I used one of the changing scrolls as soon as I got one after one of the first levels and it turned the first guy of one of my main guys to "undefined" , it's picture is constantly changing to everything and it shows it's animation guy as nothing or invisible and it blinks a red dot when it shoots, it's attack is n/a and range is u/k, speed n/a, all these stats r unlimited also. Kills bosses in one hit as well as all of the really fast spawing creatures b4 u c them. Also it I fire but kills anything fire absorbing. it dosent lvl up and it says it costs 24 but when u get him he costs 100 o someing so if u buy it with 24 gold u have -gold and it goes up till back to normal. The last thin I think is that it can hit flying lol. ok so I just wanted to c if anyone else got anything like this, and pls try to keep this up top so the creator can read and look into it.

Potential Bug: I have 2 units that are exactly the same, I bought them at the same time, they have around the same kills, the exact same upgrades, are from the same hero, but one of them is doing around 500 dmg while the other is doing around 150?

same as last version, only showing armor at the beggining of a wave w/o having any way to check it afterwards is really annoying, especially considering that armor can be a really big deal if u have a lot of low damage, fast attack units

The progression seems weird, like it seems as though you don't get enough XP.
Also, the interface is really, really clunky. Rather than shift through your heros to pick a unit it'd be nice if you just lined the units up along the bottom, there's a lot of wasted space, so that would be possible.
Then bring up heroes and all of that after a screen, so you can assign their talent points without navigating the menus and all of that.

A very good game in all but one way: the controls. Upgrading a unit requires clicking the unit, clicking upgrade, clicking the upgade you want, clicking the X. When I have 8 units to upgrade, it gets old fast.
1) it should default to the upgrades screen, since 99% of the time, that's why I'm clicking on the unit. Saves a click.
2) clicking on a different unit should auto-close the previous screen. Saves another click.
Halves the time to upgrade units. Fixing minor issues like this can make a game a lot more fun to play.

Protector 1 & 2 were, imo, flash game masterpieces. You should have stopped there. this game is just recycled elements from all your other games, with the 'novelty' of having more customization for all your men--big deal! it doesn't make it fun to play, especially the later levels, when there's no challenging enemies left to face. protector three was horribly difficult, and people complained, so now you made protector four which is insanely easy. only 1 & 2 had any kind of balanced gaming.

Good game, but why do you get more points if you spend all your money during a level? Shouldn't you get more for having more money left over?

more problems:
- Advanced units are useless, when I got enough cash for obtain, there is no way how to exp them enough
- New talents should be highlighted, searching for them is really annoying
- Sell or move option in battle
- More mouseover hints
- Meelee units are weak, no range, no flyings .. when there is oportunity to use them, there is allways at least one wave of flying units so you need ranged units as well ... and exped ranged, so why build two armies?
- Map is one huge colour chaos
- Key shortcuts
- Unknown enemy paths
Hmm .. maybe Protextor VIII should be playable for me .. this is just boring day for few achievments.

Fourth time and still shitty :/
Main line is too easy ...
- Used only Kirana and Trainees (14 basic dmg) and energy spec
- Maxing magic use eighter hero and mine
- In battle allways choose middle (damage) way on exp tree
- When available, use elemental switch item to physical damage when need it
Well .. mayor problem are only levels with bosses absorbing energy, then it's time to switch to physical damage. Sometimes there are also waves with phys str but my bonuses rule them. This is probably first "RPG" where quantity is over quality - when have place and money, hire more units.

consecration allows a unit to hit for extra damage against an enemys strength
for example if you use a physical warrior against a monster with physicla as its strength instead of hitting for 50% damage youll hit for 125% damage.

needs balancing. you are easily stopping the enemies with your first person for 3 or 4 waves and then it throws 30 or so at you in one and you can hardly take any out. BALANCE. for now just a 1/5 frustrating and boring. no innovation, just a standard leveling system added onto the old protector games.

This probably has already been said, but... i think it would be FAR better if elemental switch was a consumable item with a high cost. Switching elements with equippable items is just too exploitable and defeats the purpose of having elemental-based heroes.
