I agree with others who have stated the problems with having to guess at what may come later. I was almost killed when I had almost no dexers(since flyers are the norm) and heavy lightning and fire mages against a baddie who absorbed those two and regenerated. Not fun. Overall an enjoyable game though. With a few tweaks it could be great.

I love this game. The fact that you can't sell a unit just makes it unique.
And as to useless units, I've seen that Fire is almost always a good choice. They will get so high leveled that unless the enemy absorbs, they'll kill them anyway.
If you introduce an option to remove units, then this game is just like any other defense game out there. Leave it in.

Great game except for the absorption. It comes out of nowhere and can instantly kill you if its on a large mob level.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
It does take a run through to see what absortions or how many flying units there will be. Also the hards are easier if you get some skill points from the medium levels first.

I would like to see some visual representation of unit level and gen. vs. spec. I would also like a guide to what each symbol means. Fire and poison, I get it. But some monsters are strong against... pillows? Are any of my guys using pillows?Otherwise the overall layout is smooth and intuitive. Simple but very fun. 5/5

Strange that this game seems to be an update of another one, but that said... I like it quite a bit. The skill system is unique and truly adds depth to the gameplay. Levels scale nicely and provide a good challenge. They must be played multiple time to "learn" the waves, go back, and plan ahead.

Great game. I agree with a lot of the comments - there needs to be some way to disable or remove units. It's not strategy or planning ahead if you have to see the future to know that oh yeah, in 20 levels, my purple mages are going to be useless.

much better than the original form. better organized, better looking, better explanations, better tactical possibilities.

With a little thought and planning this game is fairly easy. Just beat the HARD marathon. only once seriously used the unlockable units.

I had this at 5 stars until I ran into the retarded (not challenging; RETARDED) difficulty of the last enemy in Lighthouse. That's no fun after having played 39 waves straight, and having no idea what to prepare for on your first time playing.

You said there was strategy? I love the concept with the map and pretty much everything else, but this is a puzzle game long before it's a strategy game. There might be a few different answers to the puzzle, but it's still a matter of learning the waves and planning ahead.
This game can be absolutely wonderful with a few updates, but if you are fighting the will of the people you made the game for, the game will eventually fade away.
I want to critic the game so much because I like it, but I feel it will be pointless.
If you do change heart, some things I think would benefit the game include; speeding the overall game up, checkpoints, some tangible benefit to a high score, tweaking the numbers to add depth to the strategy (less rock paper scissors)
That being said, the game is a higher quailty than many. 4/5

I'm sorry, labeling a map 'easy' and making the coolest units, Necros, accessible at that point and then going 'oh wait, you just failed!' at level 30+ is not funny, it is not fun, and it make you a sadist. Thats the sort of 'joke' that plays significantly better in a 5 or 10 round level, not one I just spent an hour on. Anything with that much borked is significantly less strategy and 100% read your mind. Or trial and error for six hours. Bah

I didn't find the lighthouse especially ahrd to be honest.. When the last boss came I had like 17 lives left and I realized something had to be done when he'd passed 2 times, so I just spent all my money (like 1500) on paving and placing fire mages anywhere I could think of, and well.. He went down quick :P

My first four skills were necromancer, necromancy, persuader, manipulator. I don't get any discount on purchasing necromancers!

Just a quick update, as Solistus suggests, I am planning to update soon. Selecting a unit or opening and closing the music box is a simple workaround for now for the can't select issue.
I'd like to point out that Marathon levels are optional nasty challenges that often require a specific approach in order to demonstrate a specific strategy players will find useful to try in other levels, you don't have to do them. (though there is a slight issue with regeneration that will update, it is still quite "easy" with the correct approach)
On the subject of selling units, you can't do it, because there is a different plan that will be far more strategic, I'm happy to discuss these plans and solicit ideas for future versions via my profile, just not in the comments which would be impossible to maintain a dialouge through.

Rated 5/5, although I can't get past the first map because of trouble on the medium and hard maps, I think you deserve to win the weekly prize for making the best TD I ever played although there are some bugs.

Agree with others. By having upgrades for units be based on individual XP rather than just money, it would be nice to be able to disable some of the higher level shooters so some of the back guys could build up XP before it is too late and they are ineffective against later waves.

Punishing mistakes by refusing to implement a sell feature is sadistic. I'm not being funny or sarcastic. I think the developer is a jerk.

A couple more thoughts:
Dexer specialisation is virtually useless. You'll do more damage investing in Generalism.
Other specialists are very important (except maybe poison...). Keep a balance of specialist and generalist mages.
Absorb's a bitch. Absorb/regen flying bosses are by far the hardest waves in the game. This is where your D really gets tested! Still, if you built well one boss shouldn't hose you; you should have plenty of lives left for the final boss fight. If your D can't outdamage the regen rate, well, your D sucks :\

A few comments:
As others have pointed out, selecting an enemy unit fixes the left click bug. Hopefully an update will fix this sooner or later.
Lighthouse is easy if you stick to the basic units and place well. I beat it on the first try losing less than 10 lives. Don't waste your skill points getting advanced units if you can't afford the essentials too (e.g., the -5 gold cost skills).
On that note, USE YOUR SKILL POINTS! They make a huge difference and can be reset unlimited times. If a level is giving you trouble, try a new skill build along with different placement.
Use dexers sparingly. Short range and not hitting air are huge handicaps. I usually stick to 1 or 2.
A few more to come, stupid max length...

8 knights... as in... warriors.
Oh trust me, I checked out his weakness and spent the 1500 all on upgrading my warriors. Didn't do much good. 2 grandmaster necros with 100+ kills and that regenerate was enough...

Love this game. Obviously it gets more than a little repetitive, and it could use some balancing and updating, but damn if I haven't been playing this game straight for two days.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
No warriors at all? If you had 1500 gold, and didnt think to buy it's weakest element, maybe rethink your tactics?
sure absorb is a bit overpowered at the moment, but to let the boss pass 36 times, with 1500 in bank? come on =)
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
10 reds, 8 blues, 8 knights, 2 purps + 2 necros, 2 greens... does that sound balanced enough for you?
1500 in cash reserve to spend on upgrades to counter whatever would come.
Guess what, the Lighthouse end boss still took 36 all my lives without ever being reduced below 2/3rds.
Balance my ass.

Left Click not working? I've had this happen a few times also. Try clicking on an enemy. After selecting the enemy, I was again able to select my units. Maybe it will do the same for some of you?
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
sorry i am not english initially. also lighthouse is fine? i managed first time, i expected last boss to be hard, so saved up some gold to use units that he is weak too, a bit of forward thinking!
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
The only thing I don't like about this version of defender is that they don't upgrade as they go up the levels like they did in defender. Apart from that I love it.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
yeah if you change the guyz your using you can beat the absorb, half the bugz people are mentioning are not bugz at all, people just not reading the protectepedia!!!!!!
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
also, on the lighthouse, the 4k hp regenerating dude is nearly impossible, and same for the flying fast absorbing skull things ...
