Cmellen: Trick to beating the ghost ship whether with clipper or ship-of-the-line is to maximise your attacks. With ship-of-the-line, any that are undamaged should attack the hull directly, then have everyone quickshot. If they have 45-49, 3 quick attacks. 40-44, two direct hull shots. 35-39, one direct and one quick, 30-34 two quick shots, 20-29, hull shot. Always use dynamite as well.

I'm not sure why everyone seems to be struggling with the ghost ship... all I had to do was use dynamite and aim hull every turn and beat it with one ship untouched, and another ship only half hurt.

I've got 3 ships of the line fully upgraded and have used stars to fully upgrade everything, but I still can't get close to defeating the ghost ship. What am I missing here?

What? No fireworks or mention of the sister when you defeat the Dutchman. needs a more triumphant ending. But enjoyed it too.

Trying for badge of the day, but it stopped counting my kills after the first three sunk in the intro. Refreshing did not solve this.

Dynamite cannonballs plus maxed out ships equals guaranteed win if and ONLY if you use the right ship lane of the "Buy Ship" tree. Did not do all the Star Upgrades, but maxed out Action Points first, then Accuracy, then Damage. Had only 5 on Hull and 3 on Cargo. Hope this helps people out

'Aim crew/Aim sail' decreases the targeted ship's total AP. Used to incapacitate ships.
'Aim hull' deals increased hull damage. Used to sink ships.
In most cases, do not retreat. The added damage costs is usually worth the additional WP gained after a loss.
Keep on the right side of the of the ship tree.

Fyi, killing the crew makes it easier to board the ship. boarding the ship is like an instakill with better rewards, but costs 35 action.

Simple way to build yourself up early on (it's obvious, I know, but I'm commenting in case anyone can use the info). 1. Buy max corn. 2. Take Cancun. 3. Sell corn, buy max bananas, go back to San Pedro. 4. Sell bananas, buy max corn, go back to Cancun. Keep repeating steps 3 & 4. While you're doing it, more level 1 pirates will sail close enough for you to attack them. Destroy each one you can You'll earn some achievements for both the business & the fighting; spent the upgrade points on combat stats (I suggest damage & hull). And buy all 3 upgrades for your ship as soon as possible.
Should only take a couple minutes until you can either buy the next combat ship (Cog), then go take Pinar.

I didn't use any of the upgrades (e.g. damage) until I lost to the Flying Dutchman repeatedly and then searched for strategies. Perhaps consider making something flash when upgrades are available. Looking at the comments, I'm not the only one that missed this. Anyhow, this is a sweet game overall though. I gave it all 5 stars.

Pretty sure the weakest team does NOT always go first. Because when I go to a city and they get first turn and their first volley obliterates one of my ships..I really have doubts about my superiority.

There needs to be a way I can earn gold without battle. I did two battles and I'm broke defeated and I can't repair my ships.

Their should be a random event were after your done sinking a ship or you finished the battle a sea creture appears or instead of a pirate their can be a litte sea monster going around the map after you and if you win you get really rare items like kraken scales or something.

Love this game, just played it from start to finish. A couple tid-bits of advice for people who plan to play to beat the game. 1. If you want to get alot of gold quick, get your ships up to 35 action pts quickly and board, you attain more gold and better cargo by boarding than destroying the ships. 2. If you need lots of war points for those costly studies, simply destroy as many ships as you can. 3. Another very easy way to get gold is to do as much trading as makes sense (in otherwords, always trade the "good price" merchandise, check your cities to see which will give you the most gold for that merchandise by hovering a city on the world map menu. Hope my advice helps.

Another note--if it looks like you have AP but can't seem to use it, try clicking on another ship. Sometimes one of your ships that got destroyed is still selected automatically, even if the others are A-OK.

I always get lag at the ship selection screen, and rarely at the end of battles. It's also hard to click on a ship when it is near a port. Other than that, good game!

stat description : sail affect Action Points, i think crew is.. i see enemy ship who lost all crew and cant fire even have AP (i use boarding skill), hull affect your ship health, and cargo for max goods u can carry to other port

Anyone have tips for defeating boss? I have tried attacking with 3 fully upgraded "ship of the line" battleships using nothing but Dynamite and have been unable to get his health below 12,480. The 20AP "Aim Hull" seems to be more effective than a basic "Quick Shot" in both the boss match and in the rest of the game, so my strategy consists merely of spamming "Aim Hull" "Dynamite" moves and spending any leftover AP on a "Quick Shot". An exception being when I have say 30AP, using two "Quick Shot"'s over one "Aim Hull" move, which would waste the remaining 10AP.

easy way to beat final ship the flying dutchman : get all upgrades except cargo (destroying pirates better), buy "ship of the line", earn at least 300k gold for dynamite then always use aim hull.. my max dmg is around 8k one turn on boss.. thats nice
