How about highlighting the upgrade star in the lower left hand corner when you can upgrade something? I was flabbergasted that I couldn't destroy the flying Dutchman with my three ship of the lines with dynamite ammuniation. Took me another four tries until I stumbled over the upgrade star after which the fight was a walk in the park, of course.

If you get stuck after upgrading your ships and they are near death. You can always sell one back for a lower class ship under "change ship" to get you back on track

What's the difference in gameplay effect between quick shot and selecting ball, chain or grape / hull, sails or crew?

Also boring when you then aren't able to rebuilt back your ship, since invisible ships attack you again and again, making you lose this hard-earned gold.
It takes all the fun away.
I'd love to like this game (pirates is a good alternative to spaceships and dragons) but I just can't manage it.
Having a power level for towns would be a great addition, too.

The weakest fleet does attack... so why am I smashed at first turn by 3 galleons who shoot first when I have 3 carracks ?

The weakest fleet attacks first, so why do I get smashed at first turn as my fleet is 3 carracks and the enemy seems to be

I spent all my gold upgrading my ships, then lost trying to defeat a town because they went first and killed one of my ships in one shot cos they all fired at him. I have 50 gold left. I can't repair my ships (as I don't have any gold) and I can't even fight level 1 ships (it just says I lost and got -6 gold). I'm stuck. What do I do?

this game is all about research, so dont buy anthings twice till you have the end of the line. If you want to kickstart your WP, go full hull bonus then ap, always prefer aiming for hull, they wont know what hit them when 3 low levels destroy level 6 enemies.

This was probably one of the most anti-climactic endings I have ever seen for a flash game. At the end, it states the obvious that you beat the Flying Dutchman, but it's not much more than a results screen, and to me that's disappointing considering all the buildup and story leading up to the final battle.

heyy i heard the weakest fleet attacks first? but when i try to capture a city and my fleet is weaker but the enemy attack first.

A full team of 600 hull ships with me having the ships one lower than them plus one "fast" ship makes THEM the weaker team and attacks me first? That makes a WHOLE lot of sense. -_-

Earn money just less gain ground in the city, occupied by one.
If the only funds that can be used 500 gold shell moderately easy. : )

fun game. but 1 small problem everytime i challenge a level 4 or 5 boat i only get a chance to attack twice and i get screwed everytime i do so maybe the turn system could be fixed

Sometimes when it's your turn no crosshairs turn up on the enemy ships. It might be because you've selected a dead ship on your side to attack. If this does happen just click on one of your other ships.

I have a glitch: the opponent always, without fail, attacks my bottom ship, regardless of actual strength. Testing this, I started to focus all my resources into upgrading the bottom ship, leaving the other two relatively weak. They would continue to attack the bottom ship.
The next test was the opposite: make the ship on the bottom the weakest, to which the enemies would just continue to attack that one alone.

For anyone that want easy stars at the start, just go to one port and buy and sell the same thing over. It will count towards the Sell Good, Earn money achievements.

Quick Shot(15AP) should be replaced with Normal Shot and the New Quick Shot (<15AP) should use what ever AP you have left by fires a reduced number of shots.

Town fleets attacking first just because they're "defenders" is really kind of silly when they completely tear up YOUR fleet yet there's no way to see the relative level of a town you're attacking. Turns should really be just like any other battle OR you should be able to see the level of a town before you attack it so you're not wasting thousands of gold just to scout out what you're trying to attack... It's completely unexpected when you're used to weaker fleets going first for sea battles.

Hints for this game: If you buy and sell the same products the prices will increase and the profits will decrease after each purchase and sell. Supply goes up, demand goes down. To help with this buy other things, sell those, mix it up. It will bring up the sale right of the other things for every other thing you buy and sell. Upgrading the ships: While it's true that you have to study every thing to get to all the upgrades, there's a trick you can pull off that makes them cheaper to buy with money. If there's a similar upgrade that's further along the upgrade tree you can buy that and it will buy the other upgrade without costing more money and you DO get credit towards your ship stats for the others.

@Erik: You've pretty much got most of it right. The way I finally beat it was I realized I was attacking inefficiently. You have to maximize your damage to the hull but prioritize the number of attacks. Say you have 35 AP - shoot the hull once, quickshot the rest. 50 AP? 1 hull shot and 2 quickshots. Always get the most bang for your buck and never end up with extra AP. That (barely) won it for me.
Hope that helps!

Would be nice if it's a bit harder at later stage, for example the enemy can have more ships --- the aiming & boarding is horribly strong that kills everything within 1 or 2 turns.

so even with everything maxed out cant kill ghostship...and im usin ship of the line, and maxed out exp and usin dual hull attack
