I don't know for sure, but I don't think Pete died, because at the end Bird, or perhaps his mom, says "Pete! Your eyes are opening!" or something like that, and it sounds more like he was waking up from his coma than dying. Also, when you finish the game and are flying through the stars, a little bit after the credits, the music changes and you can hear a person breathing.

I have a different theory than MrHedge64. He believes that all the characters are different people but I think that the people are all parts of his subconscious, The bird was confusing, but I think he was the part of Petes mind that was aware he was in a coma, and the part that wanted to wake up. This explains why the bird was able to remember the part of song that his sister played. The bird is just a voice for his thoughts. The writings on the walls are his subconcious trying to wake him up alerting him that "This world is a lie", "ringing the dore bell" is symbolism for waking up, the big lady is the part of his subconscious that doesn't want to wake up. He realizes he's in a coma when he opens the door with the piano, and when he finally enters his brain at the end, he's fully aware that he's in a coma, like becoming lucid in a dream. The boat represents him leaving his "coma world" and "traveling" back to the normal world, at that point the bird disapears and you hear his mom

*-* so perfect...
it makes us reflex and think in live, or in what we call live, and death, and friends, and the word "normal" or "anormal"...
then we simply understand that all this words i said is the same that "nothing", and nothing is the same that "dream".
beautiful.

There is only one thing I can say. Good as LIMBO. Same layout as LIMBO. In short, you should go out and make indie games, Sir.

I cant play this! Every time i press more than one arrow to jump in a direction, Pete will just keep doing one of the actions after i let go. Is it just me?

Great game. I personally didn't care for the ambiguity in the ending. I was actually expecting to see him wake up from the coma (the premise was pretty clear just from the title. The wake up notes didn't hurt either.) Other than that, very well done.

Is there any meaning about the mismatch of pitch between piano keys and their sounds? had thought that to be a mistake at the beginning and then found there is so many metaphors so can't help asking about it. or maybe i'm just thinking too much...? oh almost forgot to say but maybe no need to say, absolutely nice game! :D

Who got the idea that Pete died? Clearly, he woke up from the coma he was in. But what's with the ANNOYING facebook/twitter ad in the middle of the game? It certainly wasn't there when I first (and the 3 subsequent times) played this game.

I think the bird was in fact his sister, the bird said that his sister was down in the basement and then said it lied. Maybe because his sister was with him all along and that the basement (at least the inner parts) was his heart and that his sister was always be in his heart and that she is very dear to him. His sister was the hope and will to live and the key to wake up from the coma. The people he met was people he knew, Jon and Goomboysa was friendds he knew aswell as Fatty fatcake. Fatty was a friend that often blocked his path but Pete helped him when he was in trouble and in return Fatty would help him. His father wasn't abusing but rather urged him on to keep doing what was right and solve the problem, or it would just be worse later. And the reflection in the water in the basment is a reflection of the reality with a person dear to him watching as he lays on the bed. The bell is probably just some distorted sounds around him as he wakes up.

This is one of the best short games I've ever played... Thank you so much, and I hope you will keep making more beautiful games like this one! :D

I don't know exactly how this was made, but it is probably my favorite game on this site. Normally, successful games are some kind of tandem between an artist and a programmer. Even if the character was an orange block, I would say the programming was genius.
Again, is this guy paid to write music? I will buy it.

The game isn't hard to complete, it just requires careful observation, think piano, what do you play on the piano? Music, where else do you hear music in the game? Also, for all those stuck in the basement, you'll need too look out for small round black balls, with two dots on them, possibly resembling eyes, find all of those, and the doors will open, the actual gaming side of the game is easy, what you need to appreciate is the sheer beauty of it!

never mind, just finished game. To other players: don't play piano when it asks you to. There is a door right next to piano. jump around in the space between the piano and the door. The piano keys will pop up and then you play DEBAB.

Pete was abused by his father. He was locked in a basement and beaten into a coma. The bird is a representation of his dead sister. All of the obstacles you encounter are your minds attempts to keep you alive. Your sister is trying to help free you from your coma and guide you into death. The basement represents you facing your prison, the door bell represents someone coming to get you out. In the end you free yourself by ringing the door bell and letting your mind go.

@ExoGlome You're kidding, right? For number 1, you're the only person who that happens too. Number 2, this is going on in a little boys mind. Perhaps that's also something he's thinking or mother is saying. Number 3, how does a message at the top at only certain zones kill the atmosphere to the point of losing 2 stars? Either you're completely retarded or that comment was a joke, but either way..get off this comment box. NOW.
