great game but needs more puzzle and a better ending 4/5

OK, finished it after finding a walkthrough on another site. I'm rating this a 3/5, but I'm rounding up from 2.5. There needs to be more puzzle, more clues, and less random roaming. And there's way too much backtracking over the course of the game. That sequence once you get the square pedestal open is just brutal.

I mean, I've got the three domed towers completely lit but I can't, for the life of me, get into the small fourth tower.

And the bathroom -- if you're downstairs by the tub and click on the stairs, you go upstairs to the sink. If you're downstairs by the tub and you click on the curtain covering the window...you go upstairs to the sink. Is this intended?

This would be a lot more fun if there were a little bit of instruction. It's extremely easy to move around the lodge, turning on lights, without solving any puzzle. That said, I'm stuck right now with a diamond key. There's a pedestal with a keyhole, but it's a square one. The diamond one has no hole. Could it be that it let me use the wrong key to open one of the other sections nd now I need an already used square key? Am I just not seeing the key I need? I enjoy puzzles, but it's hard to do a puzzle when it's not evident what needs solving.
