About the tags, here is a good article about “When tags work and when they don’t.”
As one commenter summed it up,
"
People WILL tag things if the tags are useful to THEM.
People WILL NOT tag things if the tags are useful to SOMEONE ELSE.
"
You might also want to take a look at how deviantART ranks art by the number of favorites (or “Favourites”) it has. People like maintaining their collection of favorites, so things get ranked and sorted, which is good for the site as a whole. Is there a similar motivation on Kongregate?
And this “Formatting Help” thing to the side is really cryptic.
bq. (quotes)
Let’s see what this does.

I’d like to see a way to mark someone as away or idle in chat.

I agree with gamegrl.
Additionally, it would be nice if the room listings when changing rooms separated guests from registered users. As it is now, when you change rooms it may say there are 70 people, but once you get in you see its actually 70 guests who cant chat, which can be a waste of time.

Yeah, that’s definitely funky. We’re kind of hoping the problem will solve itself, but we’ll see how it goes. Our current traffic is mostly from huge spikes, and people clicking a single link are unlikely to register an account. But as we grow a bit more naturally, the hope is that the percentage of guests will drop. Also note that guests count for much less than a registered user when it comes to automatically assigning people to rooms. (In other words, rooms with more users are probably going to have fewer registered users, since otherwise those registered users would cause people joining to spill over into another room sooner.)
We’ll see, though.

Why is it that posting to the forums automatically generates an error? Seems like this bug has been around for a while, it would be great if you guys could fix it soon, it’s probably driving off some potential forum activity.

Although out-of-topic of what you say, we should make a forum games section to attract members to forum.

I think a Private Messaging system would be nice so you could just quickly chat with friends without searching all the chat rooms

More formatting support for the forums. Not even all of the textile tags seem to be supported.

Just thinking about formatting on our forums at all makes my brain twitch.

Or at least a little refinement :). I’m always adding line breaks just to make posts readable (they always get crunched). The lists don’t seem to work either.

To answer Jim’s question, it doesn’t specifically give an error message, but everytime I reply to a thread it takes me to an error page “We’re sorry an error has occurred”, then I have to navigate home and then back to the forums again. Does this happen to anyone else?

When someone is banned, a moderator should have somewhere where they can type a note as to why they banned the person. That way when we look at the ban page, we are clued in as to what happened, we know how to deal with that person again (if its temporary) and the moderator also has some accountability. Right now you will sometimes see names that are banned, but not why. I think it would help moderation a lot.
Additionally, we need IP bans or some kind of anti-multi-accounting option. Right now banning doesnt help much when it comes to some persistent folks.

arcaneCoder, you and I are in agreement about the need to do something about the issues surrounding people having multiple accounts, and I have brought it up a few times in the past, but the answer has been that nothing will be done about it at the moment.

I think that you think about removing some of the games there are duplicate version of. An example of this is snake, there must be like 10 diffrent versions of that game on here.

Yeah, definitely. That’s been planned for a while now.

IP banning can get really messy, and I don’t want any “civilian casualties” when it comes to bannings. We’re looking at ways to address this problem, though. One of my ideas is to have chat unlockable by level. Maybe level 3 or something (though I’ll admit that this number gets higher in my head when chat frustrates me more). It should be early enough not to deter new users, but take enough time to make multiple-account-trolling take more effort than it’s worth.

How do we decide which versions go and which ones stay? And what about other similar games? I don’t think I’d want to impose that kind of editorializing even if it were feasible to do so.

Agreed. If there were IP bans, perhaps they could at least be temporary. Or there should at least be a threshold of registered accounts/per IP/per time period allowed, since if you have 10 accounts pop up in 1 hour on one IP, then you know something may be up. Something needs to be in place.
Now, I am totally against listing IPs to moderators, however some sort of indicator that an account shares the same IP/computer or w/e as another account would be extremely useful in moderating. Perhaps a message that we could see that says “Other users with this IP/etc: xxUserxx, loserDude25” or something to that effect, because right now a mod just has to guess by long observation whether or not someone is a multi-user (which can result in civilian casualties in itself). IP listings could be abused, whereas some multi-account indicator may prove to be useful without causing unnecessary restrictions. The chat level idea might be a good idea, if its kept low.

Agreed. I dont see anything wrong with having 10 different snake games, as the popular one would do the best, without forcing all players to play it.

Me too, of course we know that won’t happen ;)
The only practical solution is for the Kongregate chat app to somehow flag multiple-account IP abuse internally so the moderators or Kongregate staff can identify them easier.

you know it would be good to save chat logs so if someone is banned you can check the log and see if the mod who banned the guy is lying or he is good…
