In a nutshell
-Kong has been bought out.
-Most all of the staff has been fired, including Greg! Now ran primarily by bots
https://www.kongregate.com/forums/1-kongregate/topics/1916387-important-kongregate-announcement
https://www.kongregate.com/forums/1-kongregate/topics/1925355-sunday-4-october-botd-is-removed
-Not a single new badge in 6 months.
-Bot badging glitches out about 2-5% of the time
-Chat has been all but disabled (Excluding games that have pay to win tiers)
-Flash will be sh##canned by adobe in 3 months
-There has been a total of 9 games published in the last month (again, 9 games) and all are either set up to run on mobile platform or have a payscale built into the games.
-There's more, but i've obviously stopped caring to list them.
That said, long time member, long time and dedicated player as my profile clearly stated, but never much of a commenter. But seeing the coming tide of the death of a wonderful thing, I've decided to at least throw my 2 cents into the mix before it likely disappears forever, or at least becomes a server error hell.
It's just sad to see a good thing go, even with all the possibility to potentially restructure and recode to allow it to survive, yet it is obvious that will not happen. Even with the talk of a possible kongregate-2, kong 2.0, Kong+... whatever they decide to call it, it will never be on par with what kong was, it will only be a shell of what it once was, and likely set upon the back of a payscale or at least a pay-to-win platform.
Well my ranting is done, comments, inputs, mutual or opposing rants, all are welcome.
Simply put, Sae La Vie Kong, I knew you well, and you will be missed.

Honestly, please stop pretending Kong (as a webportal for games) wasnt about to shut down.
MTG will just keep the name to brand mobile whaletraps. Nothing more.

well, we still have project flashpoint for preserving these games though they're only releasing a tiny fragment for most users (infinity version which is 504MB download, 1.8GB when installed.) while those who want access to the full archive better have 413GB download, 480GB when extracted free hard drive space and one helluva good internet connection.
only main downside i see is they have no system in place for people to freely browse, choose, and download specific games they want. instead you either get them in bulk or not at all.
lack of ease of access will probably be one of project flashpoint's greatest long term problems if they don't change it at some point.
also, not all games in infinity version come with the included games premium content unlocked while the full "ultimate" version has pretty much everything included which is kinda shitty. and honestly, i highly doubt they have a good reason for doing it that way.

I don't think it's ever possible to archive every flash game made. So many are published on popular indie websites that I don't think anyone has bothered to archive.
For example, urbansquall games got canned, lostvectors are still up but nobody has upped them elsewhere etc etc.

Often times they are uploaded elsewhere, but due to copyright infringements, they are usualy taken down fairly quickly. This leaves many games to go ghost when the creator becomes hell bent on publishing on only a single sight and only a single sight, and when that sight goes down or the host bcomes corrupted, sadly, you will likely never see that game again.

And that's when you have to hope someone will come up with a copy of the game under a different name. That's how you get around copyright issues. Make a similar game with just a few differences to it and then call it something else.

It's c'est la vie. And the new buyers had no idea what they were getting into with the Kongregate social side, and they don't want to bother fixing it or helping. So this is what we get instead.
Big shout out and thanks to all the mods and admins over the years who did nothing to stop reported predators, people getting their pics posted in chat, harassment, and IRL travesties that occurred because two people met on their site and despite being warned Kong did nothing.
Losing Kong is no loss. It's just a pity that the repercussions on the former staff will be few.
There will be some, though.

You seem to have all your facts in order and are a true veteran of kong and everything that's happened here over the years.
Thank you for your insightful input friend.

I wonder why though. Mobile games that are -actually- fun to play are so rare. Most mobile games are just a simple compulsion loop and a button to pay money to advance faster. I can name maybe 2-3 mobile games that don't suck.

Similar thing could be said of you, with a post count that averages ... less than 1 per year? Wonderful example of activeness. So active, even the database had at one point deleted your name!
Good news: the owners(and as such, the ones writing out paychecks) definitely aren't taking input from these boards.

son, IVE been here for years, been banned dozens of times for everything from sexual harassment, to racial slurs, to threatening the staff with stalking and physical violence when they told me to calm my shit. i speak from experience when i say that kongregate staff did absolutely nothing to prevent people who clearly shouldnt have been allowed to use the social features, like myself, from doing so. much less taking legal action when shit starts getting serious. unless of course it lost them money. hell, all i got for dox'ing a staff member and posting his IRL name, adress, etc. into chat was a 7 day chat ban. MTG cant possibly do any worse than the group of mental invalids that was previously calling the shots around here.

You already gave the answer. In the quarterly reports of MTG, you can clearly see, that mobile games make 90% of Kong's earnings. The browser games part was huge (imo the best existing overall) but came at the cost of human beings taking care of the community (with a paycheck in return). In the end, us longterm fans of Kong didn't bring enough cash to keep the platform running.

Completely agreed. As somebody who has been on this site for many years(profile made in 2013), it is sad to see how it died. I largely moved on to other things circa 2015-2016 but always came back to kong for a bit of fun and of course for the nostalgia. Classics like Learn to Fly, Epic War, Pingy the Ping and others don't even work anymore. RIP Kongregate. This site was my childhood.
