New Kongregate Version: CR 2011.08.24

Developers good news, we now have a new site devoted to you at developers.kongregate.com. There you’ll find resources and useful information on our Kongregate API calls and ways to successfully monetize your games. Plus, we have implemented our comment/reply system on the documentation, so you can ask questions and Anthony (Phoenix00017) will be checking and answering them daily.

As for our users, whenever a developer replies to one of your game comments, you’ll receive a whisper and also be able to see it in your comments section. Just go to your profile page and click the link next to “Comments” or go straight to your comments page (i.e. http://www.kongregate.com/accounts/joe1017/comments). We’ve also have added tags to your personalized game recommendations. You can see your recommendations on the home page, on game page or at http://www.kongregate.com/recommended-games. And remember, the more games you rate, the better your recommendations will be.

Beyond that, we have also included some bug and security fixes. Check out all the details in the changelog below or here.

Developers:

• We have a new site for developers to go and grab documentation and information. Go to http://developers.kongregate.com and you’ll find:
  • Updated developer docs
  • A place to comment on these docs
  • See case studies of successful kreds games
  • Special section just for developer news
  • Ability to sign up for the developer newsletter
• New Play on Kongregate button in http://www.kongregate.com/logos
  UPDATE:
• SSL warnings should no longer appear on the developer payment info form. All images should now be served properly and the warnings should go away!

Users:

• Only show the current contest leader boards on the home page (Don’t worry, you’ll still be able to see past winners by clicking on “more info”!)
• Moved the location of our contest leader boards on our /contests page
• Removed our /featured_developers page
• Fixed the “Remember Me” check box during sign in to work with Facebook Connect
• When a developer replies to one of your comments on their game page, you now get sent a whisper
• See developer replies to your comments on your own /comments page
• Everyone who has rated over 5 games will now see recommended games with tags on both the home page and game pages

Good points! To answer:

a) We’re using some dynamic URL magic, so those two pages are the same page, but the navigation behaves differently depending on the URL. It’s a little weird, but it works nicely in most cases. I guess here the system just doesn’t know which one you were on when you posted, so it picks the default “all”.

b) Yeah, that’s a little odd – we retrofitted the comments from games to work with this. We’ll probably need to change that, though technically we are developers…of Kongregate, rather than the game. :)

c) That would be helpful – I’m not sure how technically feasible it is, but we can look into it.

If you go to http://www.kongregate.com/accounts/UnknownGuardian/comments you should be able to see your comment, the reply and a link to the page of your comment

I think you should add a little note making clear that the highscores tab will display the stats starting from the last you added and having the first at the bottom.

This may not be important to some, but as there’s no way to arrange their order, it’d be nice to let developers know about it.

Yep, that’s because of the slashes in the name, particularly the \ slash at the end. It’s getting fixed or trying to be fixed at the moment.
