New Kongregate Version: New Homepage Split Test

We know how much you like it when we touch things like the nav and the footer, so this time we decided to mess with the homepage. Don’t worry though, it’s a test that only a lucky half of you will see. Here is a small slice of the different modules you’ll see in the new homepage:

• Staff picks for guests
• Sign up form for guests
• Your recently played games
• Your recommended badges

You can see all the different modules and post all your love/hate comments in a forum post here.

Also for our users in our homepage test, you can mark that you’re not interested in a recommended game or badge and we won’t show it to you anymore.

We’ve also made some other tweaks and improvements, but you can read about those below or in our change logs here.

Users:

• See a new Recommended Badges section at http://www.kongregate.com/badges whenever you’re logged in.
• See top weekly and monthly games in the games browser
• Split test on the homepage:
  • Guests:
    • See sign up form on the homepage
    • Awarded their last three non-impossible badges after sign-up
    • See a staff picks module on the homepage
  • Users level 5 or lower:
    • See Kongregate tips on the homepage
    • See Your First Quest module if (it hasn’t been earned yet)
    • See recently played games if you have earned Your First Quest
    • See a level up module for 24 hours after leveling up
    • Can mark recommended games and badges as “not interested”
  • Users level 6 or higher:
    • See a recommended badges module
    • See a recently played module
    • See a level up module for 24 hours after leveling up
    • Can mark recommended games and badges as “not interested”
  • Everyone:
    • See top games uploaded within the last month
    • See top games uploaded within the last week
    • See a smaller feature roll
    • See new modules for News, Developer contests and PowerUp Rewards (US Only)

Awesome. I hope this doesn’t over complicate things.

Is there anyway that the people who weren’t picked can try it out?
I wouldn’t mind seeing what it looks like.

No one’s in the new homepage group yet, because we’re not done setting it up. I’m sure once we’re done, there will be screenshots galore! :)

There’s no way to make it so that we can all see that? :P
I think “Kongregate tips” would still be useful to people, regardless of their level.
Everything else seems pretty nice to me.

I’ve never seen so many updates in such a short time span. :O

A page to house all the tips is in the works :) We’ll get one up soon.

With new profiles as well? crosses fingers They are really in for a refreshing look.

That’s my “OH GOD CAN WE PLEASE FIX THESE PLEAAAAAAAAAAAASE” part of Kong though, so hopefully we’ll get those fixed up soon :)

I got the new layout!

When the browser is horizontally shrunk, the right edge of the page shows an ugly gray side that overlaps into the right portion of the content. :(

Raises a good point.
The ability to hide certain sections of your profile without having to private it.
But then again, what’s on your profile that’s so bad that it’d need to be hidden in the first place? :P

No, they act as a history of games you played for you.

The recently played list isn’t public. Only you should be able to see the games that you’ve played recently.

No, they act as a history of games you played for you.
