An update.

A program called Recuva does a pretty good job of showing files that have been deleted. Unfortunately, while it is able to recover the Game Preferences file from this morning, it won’t let me recover the SaveDate file — it shows as unrecoverable. The disk is overwritten in certain clusters.

So how would i go about switching these files to a new computer?

Copy the folder to the shared objects folder of the new computer…

All I found was a bunch of porn… No “chat.kongregate.com” or “www.kongregate.com” or a bunch of letters and numbers…

Thanks guys. This is really helpful!

The directories are hidden btw. You need to manually type them in or show hidden folders.

The tass video is called Tutorial no 6, IIRC. If you want to see where the game you’ve just played is kept, go to the above directory and search without a nameless file, modified today. A few games create multiple files, some of them in strange places.

Show hidden folders.

Flash Player has recently changed where it saves your data, at least if you are using Google Chrome.

On Windows 7 the new location is now: C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Pepper Data\Shockwave Flash\WritableRoot\#SharedObjects\<random>\chat.kongregate.com

Thank you, I remember reading that, but I completely forgot about it and everywhere has the old location. Nice name, by the way. Few people actually know what that is.

The EBF4-Files are not in the chat.kongregate.com folder but in one named assets.kongregate.com. (On my computer, at least.)

Yeah, this is an issue that came up a little while ago. I’d find the threads but, you know know, no forum search. Unfortunately, backup apps aren’t covering assets.kongregate. :(

Here’s the thread if anyone is interested

I’m really confused. When I am inside the folder with all the weird letters and numbers, I dont see a chat.kongregate.com. I use chrome.

This is why everyone should link to a complete list rather than just posting the file location that works for them.

Chrome uses a different Flash player (Pepper Flash/PPAPI), which stores save files in a different location.

Hmm. Has this changed since 2012? I looked in
D:\Users\ user \AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Pepper Data\Shockwave Flash\WritableRoot\#SharedObjects\ random \
and I see four folders, none of which is chat.kongregate.com. One of them is internal.kongregate.com, but the only .sol files it has appear to be generic settings.

(Note that I redirected C:\Users to D:\Users a long time ago, to stop my C: partition from filling up. C: still has a Users folder, but it no longer gets new data.)

I tried checking the Wikipedia article on shared Flash objects, and it tells me to look in the same place.

Meanwhile, Firefox still seems to put them in

D:\Users\ user \AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\#SharedObjects\ random \chat.kongregate.com

…and I can tell Firefox and Chrome are using totally different folders for saves (which another thread implies they don’t).

What’s the real story here?

I went hunting around and found the solution in my case.

Somehow, I’d managed to score an installation of Chrome that didn’t put stuff in my user’s folder like the standard install does. I had forgotten that I was running that one instead of the “standard” copy.

Just in case it helps anyone else, the path was as follows:

pathToOtherChromeFolder \Data\Chrome\Default\Pepper Data\Shockwave Flash\WritableRoot\#SharedObjects\ random \chat.kongregate.com

Mostly the same, but with enough differences that I had to hunt in there a little while. At any rate, once I copied the save game I had under Firefox to that folder, then that Chrome suddenly saw my save. Success!
