Why do I keep recieving random shouts/whispers from people asking me to play this game or that? If I wanted to play that game I would, I don’t need strangers to point me in the direction of the latest game they’ve tried, being a stubborn and opinionated person these pointers just make me less inclined to try that game and therefore not suggest it to others. Does kong really think these prompts will encourage game players to try the games? If so then my opinion of kong has dropped drastically, when I started on kong word of mouth was good enough not shoving it down our throats with spamming requests to try the latest crud!

I feel as if Kongregate should have you opt in for updates from certain mass PMs rather than opt out.

I agree with bjb, I would be less inclined to try out the game. If a game needs promoting, isn’t that where the frontpage of kong is for?
And I think MyDreamName has a point, that it should be an option in your profile, and that Kong will enforce it on devs to honor that setting, ie: that they can flag a message as ‘advertisement’ and that the user will see it or not, depending on their profile settings.
And if they don’t honor the system and send it out like spam, kong should make the feel where it hurts, their revenues (for devs) or warnings/bans (for users)
And if the dev wants their players to know about new features, put a link to the related forum-post ingame.

I don’t think BJB is referring to the dev updates, MDN and marakesh. I’m pretty sure she’s referring to other users posting "Check out my yard on BYM! or “Join my rank of allies in Dueling Blades.” and the like. I don’t understand it, but I do not condone the behavior of these game devs to allow spamming this nonsense so easily. It’s fine if you want to spam your own shouts with this crap, but when it gets to shouting on other user’s profiles? Not kosher in my book.
EDIT: Then again, after looking at BJB’s shouts, that’s pretty much the same thing, just coming from Dream World in regards to X user. Still deplorable.

Referral spam is as old as those nasty little AOL CDs, you can’t really blame Kong for it…
Just report, they’ll hopefully be banned.

True my shouts are full of DreamWorld crystals :P but Im annoyed over the play this game shouts/pm’s I’m sent, my shouts are mine they dont spam anyone else the come join me playing this cruddy game spam I receive in my whispers/shouts box not only spam my profile they also spam my emails I want to opt out of this type of shout its annoying, unneccessary and quite frankly makes me not want to play on kong! I’m quite sure a few admin would rejoice over this but sorry to deflate ya balloons NOT I’ve been here too long to let you guys dictate to me and since I’ve no respect I’ll carry on as I always have! Give people the choice to opt out of recieving game requests, I for one don’t want em and quite frankly wouldn’t play any game that was spammed to me!

Hey, just wanted to let you guys know that we agree there’s a problem. Of course, we want people to be able to tell friends about awesome games, but it’s getting out of hand. The folks in the San Francisco office are going to be working this afternoon to come up with some limits (how many invitations, how fast, etc) and we’ll try to get those limits implemented in the next deployment.
In the meantime, your delete button is your friend. o.o

Nice copy/pasta Thy but it doesn’t address why we have to be spammed with unwanted game invites in the first place, I personally don’t want to know what joe bloggs is playing and most definitely don’t want him posting on my profile about it. Delete might be my friend but thats just a cop out making us as players deal with an unwanted issue. kong used to be a place to chill, enjoy chat and learn about the latest kong game through that chat, now it seems admin believe we dont have the intelligence to read chat and ask what a game is about instead we have to have it sent to our profiles. If kong wants to be the fb of the gaming sites then it should also realise that on fb if a user doesn’t want posts from games they have the option to block them.

Hey BJB! Long time no see, I miss you and Mara. xD
I think that the best thing Kongregate can do at this point is, like they said, to come up with limits for the invitations. I know it gets frustrating when things change, but Kongregate is only trying to get bigger and better.

LOL hi hun, hmm limiting how many one person can send won’t solve the issue, you as a mod should realise this, :P the requests are sent by people that have friended you, not necessarily by those that you’ve friended. This fact alone means that say 10 different players add you and each of them decide to send out these requests your inbox is flooded, I might no longer be a mod but during my time as one a lot of people friended me, therefore unfortunately I get spammed with these ridiculous posts from people I might once have been in the same room as. All I want is to be able to opt out of receiving them, not much to ask from a site supposedly trying to be bigger and better!

I’m just going to paraphrase what I said in the other thread.
Along with whatever Kongregate is going to do, they should allow users to completely opt out of automated referrals and have another update to opt out of mass PMs from games.
And they shouldn’t just not do this because they are “trying to get bigger and better.”

Maybe if we reply back to the person with a copy of what they sent us, they might get the message.
