Apply a more democratic moderator appointment system from ’07 (this would be practical if Kongregate was small).

(A) General election

(1) Let’s say that Kongregate needs n more moderators in general. Rather than hand-picking these moderators (which takes a long time), the appointments should be user-serving, and user-picked.

(2) To fill these n positions, users should collectively nominate at least n ² qualifying users, one from each room, giving a tacit nomination essay (~30-50 words) for each.

(3) Nomination is the best policy for democratic appointment because simply asking n ² users to run for elections would fill the ballot quickly. Kongregate gets to decide what qualifications ideal candidates meet. Furthermore, nomination demonstrates user interest.

(4) For Happy: Nominees must opt-into the ballot. I was thinking about it, but forgot to add it.

(5) Users in each group of n members is elected by means of the alternative vote (the users are ranked from 1 to n, and then the person with the majority of rank 1 votes wins). Kongregate gets to decide how these groups of n form. (Randomizing may cause this: good nominees are lumped into one or two groups, while not-so-good ones are distributed among the rest of them.)

(6) Nominees must NOT have tags such as developer, Kongregate+ user, or event/game tags attached in the ballot.

(7) If the nominee pool (p) is not n ², then the group sizes are cut in this fashion: rounding up the value (p / n ² * n)

Another (smaller) feature: Preview your entries to the server (i.e. forum posts, comments, shouts/whispers, and profiles). It’s easy to implement, but does WONDERS for the user experience on Kongregate.

I’d rather have people getting modded because it’s felt they’d do a good job of it, rather than just for being popular.
