How about adding to the chat all those textile formatting?

For chat, that would be a bad idea. The characters that trigger those format changes are commonly used. Unlike non-chat messages and profiles, you can’t go back and edit chat lines to clean up syntax accidents.

It’s bad enough that the textile parser forces formatting when it’s unintended on the forums and PMs (seriously, why can’t we have a preview feature?).

Yeah, but you could use HTML-formatting. :P

I think Skyboy has a script for that.

E: Indeed, he made one, but it seems only you (or those who have it installed) will see the formatted text, the rest will se plain textile and wonder wtf are you doing.

sounds great !
i think there should be an “ON/OFF” option for that in the chat
that turn the option to send textile on or off
