An Expansive Directory of Kongregate Rooms
Oookaaay, so now that you’ve pulled up this thread… please understand that this is going to be a bit of a project and at times I may suffer from bouts of unproductivity. But I am going to try my best to finish this thread and keep it updated in my free time. I’m sure there have been attempts at this in the past, but this is a project I’m willing to stick with.
Basically, this is my vision:
To have a complete directory here of all the English chat rooms here on Kongregate, where newcomers and experienced Kongregate players alike can come and find out information about a particular room. This thread will include much more than just the basic room names. I’m hoping to eventually get in-depth descriptions of what the different rooms are all about, as well as a list of room mods/a link to GlobalModfriend if there are none..
Why?
We have so many chat rooms on Kongregate, how do you pick one?! Sure, sometimes you may just stick with the first room you’re randomly placed in, or you may just hop around a lot. Whatever works for you though, this thread should serve as a nice place to find out what a room’s all about.

Each room/post should be properly formatted in html, with a complete template. I’ve also started adding content that other room owners have provided. I’ll be using the avatars to link to each room owner’s profile just so it looks good. I’ve started going down the a-rooms to speak with regulars/room owners.

What a beast of a thread this is. Tonight I’m just getting everything laid out, including room names and links to each post. I managed to get every room name added and linked successfully. Looks like I’m having/will be having some textile formatting issues, so most of it will be in html. I probably should have done that in the first place.
Anyway, goodnight to whoever is reading this! Tomorrow I will have everything in html and I’ll start to fill out the template below for each room.

Its history starts in Ineptitude (now Asylum) where the first “batch” of mods were bred – namely iBot, Gevock, Pokerhappy and myself (later on Adirondack, GibsonLP93). iBot went on to become room owner of Inept as we called our room. Within a room shortage (I think it was around christmas season) I requested a new room to be created. That gave birth to ‘Babylon’. I choose the name for several reasons:
First, because it sounds good, and second because I loved playing Civilization 3 and the tower of Babel in the intro is just awesome (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mr1aFFmPqmY).
Last but not least I liked the idea of getting people together from all over the world in a single room (without it collapsing of course)

We had have quite some issues with spammers and trolls in the beginning since we appeared on the top of the ‘change room’ list. Especially during the holidays that was extremely tough for everyone involved. It has become more “seasoned” now. People are really open to discussing every topic (as long as no insults are involved) although they might seem a bit ‘cold’ in the beginning. That usually changes fast though :)

“Fancy Adventurers With or Without Pants: You may like adventures, but are you fancy enough for us? Pants are not compulsory in this room. A lack of notable roleplaying is.” This is one of the oldest rooms in Kongregate, the seventh to be made. Its former owner was FairlyObvious, who stepped down due to spending less time on Kongregate. It isn’t one of the friendliest rooms to new visitors, but it does have a tight-knit core of regulars who are welcoming of anyone who can hold half of a decent conversation. The room’s had a few names, but they’ve all been variations on the same theme.

Like that reference to Passion of the Christ in the movie Hackers where Mel plays a Les Paul while drinking an onion-garnished cocktail.
Gibson (or “The Gibson”) is a very core congregational (or is that “Kongregational?”) room room with a “small town” sort of feel. The regulars form a tight-knit community, but one that is nonetheless accepting and welcoming of others. It is a very clean room when it comes to the behaviour of most of its inhabitants, thanks to its stalwart (and awesome) moderator presence, and many chatters and moderators have used it as a “break room” as a result.
Originally named The Convention and owned by Emily Greer, it was transferred and renamed The Gibson by William_Wilson as a reference to the film, Hackers, as well as his personal favourite guitar manufacturer. When The Gibson was transferred to TheBSG in early 2009, it was renamed Gibson to move up on the room list. “The Gibson” is still the most accepted reference, but “Gibson” is, naturally, acceptable.

“Let your imagination run wild…” The room was created on April 22nd, 2011 under the name Siloportknio (based off of a story I once wrote for oink). I wasn’t really active for quite a long time, during which not all that much happened. I made a decision to change the name to Imaginarium on February 13th of the following year. I hail from Scribbles and still hang out there fairly often (although that description doesn’t fit the past couple of months). Regulars have fluctuated, and the room doesn’t see much activity, but I love it all the same. It’s so quiet and peaceful.

In the beginning, there was Malachi. He was popular, 14 year-old hotshot from Scribbles that was about as awesome as it got. He was a huge hit with the ladies, role models for the men, and overall just a really cool guy. Back in that time, admins granted moderators rooms not if the moderators wanted them, but if the admins thought it fitted. A thread was made asking which moderator should get the next room, and Malachi was voted beyond all others by a landslide. So he went off and made an amazing room. MalFunction.
MalFunction was the type of room that was new but not quiet. Regulars from Scirbbles that were all for Malachi went with him to this new room and made it a pretty cool place right off-the-bat. Users like DragonFlame, charredmonkeys, aenh and others were starting to hang out there more and more
Sorry, but the rest of MalFunction’s history has been lost forever. Clouded by thoughts too intense for us to compensate for, we must strive forward through thick and thin just to keep it going. Those who remember what had once become of MalFunction have either long since left or have been lost to darkness.
After the_squall had been on and off on ruling the manor of MalFunction for a long time, a young hermit by the name of Jon, or nicknamed braves055, came out of the forest. Though he did not speak for a long time, Jon eventually worked his way into a social society. Starting as a young badgesmith, “Braves,” worked his way up in the manor. From blacksmith, he became a bartender of the manor. While working at Club MalF, “Braves” learned the essential skills it took to running a business, and many of the skills he would require to rule the manor. “Braves” eventually was called up by one of the kingdoms wise men, Ze Shadow, who asked him to become a hitman for the kings. Ze Shadow dubbed him a “Moderator.” However, when trouble makers came to the manor braves had much trouble completing any hits, although he eventually got over his fear. Kind of. While noticing that Lord the_squall was absent upon duties outside of the kingdom, “Braves” stood within the castle of the Lord. Although he requested many times to be placed as the Lord of Manor MalFunction. the_squall often denied his request, which filled ex-hermit Braves with a great rage. One day, the brave Jon challenged Lord Cody to a duel. Jon pulled out his light saber, as did Lord Cody. Both were great master Jedi, but in the end, Jon summoned a giant pile of badges, and crushed Lord Cody. By stealing his secret R belt buckle, “Braves” had officially become the Lord of Manor MalFunction. Citizens were delighted, but demanded that ex-Lord squall still be aloud to stay within the Manor walls. Lord braves was more than happy to allow ex-Lord squall to stay in the Manor. Though the manor still remains a hostile place, it has become much better in the recent years following the new Lord Braves.
Burrito was also dubbed the scribe of the manor, and forced to write out the complete history of the room.
Change has come! Braves has fallen and a new champion arises! This poor blokes name? Maginmaniac7! All bow before this man and tick him off to no end!
Braves has reclaimed his throne and overthrown the Magin! The people of MalFunction are confused by such rapid changes…. Braves rules with an iron fist but a heart of gold <3

The box is also known as paradox box, how else do you crowd that many people in a cardboard box? The box ebbs and flows, but retains many regulars. We are lucky enough to have regulars who love to chat about math, physics, books, anime, biology, theology… if it sparks an interest, we will chat about it.

As an unowned room, the box was briefly turned into Area51. However, an uprising from the regulars restored the box, and all was well.
