Hey everyone,
I thought I’d start and maintain this thread to let people know about which games I’m working on putting badges in. It will likely be updated with new games around the beginning of each new month.
As part of a new policy, I'm no longer adding badges to games the same month they're released, since this can sometimes have a very disruptive effect on the monthly contest placements.
This is the current queue:
[Overlord's New Mansion](https://www.kongregate.com/games/saantonandre/overlords-new-mansion), [A Pirate and His Crates](https://www.kongregate.com/games/FeatherHatGames/a-pirate-and-his-crates), [The Ranger with the Magic Bow](https://www.kongregate.com/games/Junjo/the-ranger-with-the-magic-bow) and [Demented Shadows: Prologue](https://www.kongregate.com/games/VasantJ/demented-shadows-prologue) will all be getting medium badges for completion (in the case of Overlord's New Mansion, I'm thinking I'll allow either ending). Badge name suggestions for any of these are welcome!
I'm also doing something with [The Final Earth 2](https://www.kongregate.com/games/flori9/the-final-earth-2), but I don't know what yet. More broad suggestions are welcome there too. [Tactical Weapon Pack 2](https://www.kongregate.com/games/xWILKINx/tactical-weapon-pack-2) is on the backburner for now, and [missed messages](https://www.kongregate.com/games/zephybite/missed-messages) still needs our stats API.
If you would like to make specific suggestions (especially regarding names!) or requests for badges in the aforementioned games, **this is the place to do it because I have already committed to adding badges to these games but have not yet committed to the specific tasks**.
If you would like to suggest the next game(s) to receive badges, this is also the best place to do it.
Thanks!
Edit: If you would like to test a game on the site for whether it has our stats API, load up Chrome and right-click outside of the game window, then click “inspect element.” Switch to the “console” tab. Then type /?debug_level=4 at the end of the game URL. You will now see how many stats the game is reporting and when, in real time, they’re being reported.

I’ll keep it in mind. Good work on getting more badges out. :)
I’m sure you guys have considered allowing games to add their own badges. What were the biggest reasons against it? Quality control?
Basically the games can tie their own achievement page (many games have this) into the Kongregate system?
Maybe, only allow Kongregate to choose to let certain ones award points? (best of the best, chosen by Kong admins and users)
Maybe award certain special badges by Kong only, that tie directly into getting 2 specific in game achievements.
Like, in game the game dev would have an achievement like “Kill Hidden Side Boss”, and another called “Beat Game on Hard”, but Kong could make a special badge for that, that gets a special Kong badge that gives points.
Basically letting the game devs do most of the leg work, and Kong picks out the best of the best.
Another side benefit of this is it encourages more game devs to add achievements to their games, which would seem to encourage long term attachment and playing of that game (and all games) on Kongregate.

I like the idea of this thread, but what about the Badge Suggestion thread?

I really appreciate the intentions behind that thread, but it’s filled with games and badges that would not be technically feasible to implement. Or it has games and badges that are basically the ONLY possibility, so sometimes there’s an overlap between what people suggest and what I do, but only due to a sort of process of elimination. I can streamline this process more effectively by having total control over which games are being considered for badge suggestions, since I need to commit to badging a game before I can think about which badges it will have, and this way I can also tell people the parameters within which the badges are being designed.

Fair enough.
So basically, a thread from 2007 is out? Kind of sad. :(

Just so you know, it is really encouraging to have your feedback and interaction with the community!
(please badge all the games!! :D)

Post in that thread as much as you want — you can even post about games with ratings below a 3.8!

There’s usually an emphasis on badging more recent games, but there haven’t been very many viable candidate games in 2014. Would you prefer that this thread focus on more recent games, or would older games meeting the presumptive criteria (3.8+, working API) be okay when we’re in down periods?

RIP Badge Suggestions thread.
Sad to see there won’t be any skill-based hard/impossible badge there. In this age of Badges of the Day and points inflation, a medium badge barely touches the sides, and endurance-based hard badges (like KRF, and especially Valtherian Arc 2 I imagine) just aren’t worth it. OK I only played Space Flash Arena for like 5 seconds, but it seems like you could make a badge challenging enough to qualify as hard for that game maybe? Maybe? Please? Dojo Of Death hard badge was great….

[Here](http://www.kongregate.com/games/WebCypher/crow-in-hell)
Good game. Needs API though. Also the rating’s a bit low. You should get your crow minions to 5/5 it to get the rating up.

Older games are great! I’ll give priority to new ones, but if there’s a backlog, I’d still prioritize older highly rated games over newer lower rated games.

I concur, I like the idea behind this thread. It’s useful in at least two ways, letting badgehunters know beforehand which games to focus on and getting feedback from kongregaters about planned badge releases. Thumbs up and kudos!

I like the idea of this thread and I’ll definitely be posting in it again in the future! A little sad greg’ll be checking ‘badge suggestions’ even less than usual though :(
Seriously though, greg, just go and look back at every single one of Precarious’ suggestions in the Badge Suggestions thread. I’m pretty sure they’re all feasible and doable. Get on that shit!

Better to have badges that are too difficult to earn than too easy to earn. Badges are no fun at all if they are easy.
I dont care what games you badge(besides point and clicks, do not badge those for any reason), but make them take more than 10 minutes to earn. I’d take endurance badges over a quick easy/medium anyday.

Your opinion is noted! I mostly go by the games themselves. For example, Dojo of Death lends itself to a hard badge a lot better than something like Snail Bob. And I try to avoid hard badges in games that would take a long time doing the same repetitive task — I think it’s better to encourage people to play a wide variety of games instead.

I’m not sure what worries me more: that Greg thinks the badge Suggestions thread is on facebook, or that facebook thinks Kongregate is malicious:

Bummer, I thought I’d suggest [Amberial: Axis](http://www.kongregate.com/games/oddgoo/amberial-axis) but the ratings a 3.6 :/ darn

Whoops, link fixed. I linked the thread to adv0catus over Facebook, then I got lazy and just copy/pasted the link I gave to him, and I guess Facebook sort of inserted itself into this link and I wasn’t paying enough attention.

Right-clicking to copy a link on Facebook includes Facebook’s own garbage into it. SO annoying.

I like greg’s ideas about long repetitive task games. As for facebook worries, the following link might be interesting in a general sort of way.

For Loot Hero instead of an easy badge for reaching level 10 I think an easy badge for killing the dragon (end of level 5) is better. That is kinda the end of the game, since level 6-10, 11-15 etc. are just harder repititions of the first 5 levels.
A badge for “completing” the regular content is in my eyes better than reaching a certain level, which will be obtained somewhere along the run. Those badges can be nice, if there are more badges to achieve in the same game. But in the case of Loot Hero 2 badges will be too much.

On the topic of loot hero, I think it’d feel more appropriate if the easy badge were for defeating the dragon once. You reach level 10 at a pretty arbitrary spot, and it doesn’t take too much longer to beat the dragon, which is pretty much “the end” of the game.
Edit: I really need to read posts above mine before I actually post. :|

Good suggestion for Loot Hero. I just messaged the developer to ask for that stat.
Sandbox Hero will receive promotion and badges once jmtb02’s ready for it, but I’m not entirely sure what the status is for that game.
