Mechanical Commando being the hardest?!

Flag Post

I found Mechanical Commando a pretty decent challenge. But on a general scale it might just be due to the fact that less people are playing it compared to the other Impossible-badges games I think.

Flag Post

These are the ones I still need to get:

Max Mesiria Chp2 RPG
Hexiom
Super Crazy Guitar Maniac Deluxe 2
Zunderfury
Tarnation
Super Crazy Guitar Maniac Deluxe 3
99 Bricks
The Space Game: Missions
Epic Battle Fantasy 2
Elona Shooter
Bubble Tanks Tower Defense

Out of those, there are five which require too much luck for my taste, one of which is far too unreasonable, two which are endurance and thus I’ll eventually get when I have the time, and three of which I can reasonably say it’s because I suck at the games for various reasons. The last three are Hexiom and both of the guitar impossibles. I do not have rhytm, and while I could explain the reason for Hexiom, the few times I’ve started it up I’ve closed it down immediately too.

On the other hand, I did find MoneySeize to be one of the hardest I’ve got. Incredibly frustrating, but I knew I could get it. Same with Meat Boy (Map Pack). Most of the other ones I have are simply not tough enough, for me. I do not consider myself to be really good at games or anything.

Max Mesiria Chp2 RPG

Oh god, please don’t remind me of that

I’m glad to see this is still being updated…

is there a script anywhere that pulls the earned data for all badges? i want to doing some stat work on the badges… and I need to know:
-Difficulty of badge
-Game name
-Number of people who have earned
-When the badge was added (can be an aprox, but closer the better)

I want to run some analysis showing that newer badges are, overall, easier than older badges. It wouldn’t be completely accurate… but if someone makes a script that will self-run, I could run it on myself and use the date acquired as the date it was added (probably accurate for 90%+, off by as much as 6 months for a few games though)

It wouldn’t be near accurate unless you added data on how many users were signed up to Kong at the time of badge release. A year ago there were half as many people on the site, and that would vastly decrease badge earnings in comparison.

However, I ran Kaedenn’s /progress function of her script on an alt, and tweaked it a little bit, and the recent badges ARE comprehensively easier. I’m just trying to find a way to get raw data that proves this.

Off Topic: I’m glad I’m not the only one who despises Apokalyx with a passion :D

Well for all I know there’s been few badges in the last year that came with any sort of challenge. The newest one I don’t have (besides Santa Rockstar) is the godlike combo in Agony: the Portal and that’s not cause it’s so hard, it’s cause I’m too lazy to be bothered to try properly.

Also off topic – yeah Apokalyx was BS… I hope I’m not the only one hating Arkandian Crusade right now… lazy grindfest.

I’m hoping it will only get the easy badge…

Far too easy, far too boring, and has a memory leak comparative to Vista’s. It’s almost unplayable on this computer.

Badges during the old days were simply ridiculous sometimes. A lot of those are insanely hard, don’t have any savegames at all or require a lot of luck. For a long time, I’ve been able to gather almost all badges beyond those few older ones. Right now, I’m getting back to not being able to get hard badges again. Dungeon Developer, Santa, Desert Moon I can’t even finish day 3 on easy, can’t even get the medium in Love. There’s a large amount of badges I haven’t earned due to not having the time, and I’m cathing up to them now, but these examples are showing to be incredibly difficult to me for some reason.

Flag Post

Yes, they were ridiculous, but that was the fun. Orbular was a really fun game, despite being stupidly difficult, and having no .sol

As for your badging tendencies, I have no idea what’s going on, as they’re some of the easier recent badges…

Desert Moon is easy if you know a good strategy. If you need help with day 4 only using support just PM me.

Dungeon Developer wasn’t that challenging, just a lot of luck.

Pro Tip: For Santa, you can get all of the scores needed for the hard badge on easy mode(with good use of star power, or what ever it may be called)

I got the hard badge for only using support on first try.</boast>

Aw cmon BlackBone.

Santa rockstar is BS, I could just barely get it to work in a semi-stable way which I suppose is the main problem everyone has with it.

Day 3 on Desert Moon is by far the toughest part of the game so once you’re past that (it should be doable with plenty of close attention and some repulsor uses if things get ugly) the rest is easy.

Dungeon Dev just needs a bit of luck and an extra helping of attention while creating the levels. Well starting with a paladin and a rogue isn’t that bad either ;P

Cmon, man up, you’re the one who taught me how to crush noobs on Dinowaurs, you can beat these puny badges. Well OK besides Santa perhaps, but hey, try Chrome, it worked for me.

Flag Post

Kongi? I’d think that that’s one of the most earned badges, with the number of people who play it…

Flag Post

Selly: yeah… i completely cbf to get the acockalick badges (only 4 badges I don’t currently have).

Also, total number of users is a very deceptive stat. The much more important stat is active users. Since the longer a site is around, the more total users it’ll have. I’m sure Kong’s active users has also grown (on a MAU basis), but the question is by how much. And whether that growth offsets the length of time that older badges have been around? My guess is that any badge that’s been around for 3+ months can all be evaluated on the same playing field… arbitrary value, but probably as good as any.

Would love to get some raw data to play around with myself, if you’ve got it. :)

I am no longer sure exactly what this list is telling us that can’t be told without a quick glance at either the on-site Kongregate badge pages or Wolf’s endlessly helpful Badge Browser.

Answering posts: @iGarck - This list tells how many were earned over a specific period - the only reasonable way to compare Badges with a stable number of gamers over a specific number of days. While there is some bias for newer Badges that were not already earned by many serious Badge hunters, the newest Badge on the list already existed over 3 months at the start of this period.

- Mechanical Commando is an old game that uses frames rather than a clock - while difficult on slow computers, it is truly impossible on modern computers. (HINT: Use a slower computer.)
- I thought "Love" and Desert Moon are in the best recent Badged games. Both mix strategy and tactics with minimal need for luck. Day 3 of Desert Moon was the most difficult - needed to mix towers as the enemies change.
- I think Apokalyx and Santa are not near the best recent Badged games. Both required much luck. Santa lags and has inconsistent timing. I did it on Basic Easy - finally got lucky on Carol of the Bells (after 12 hours of practicing that song.)
- Dungeon Developer is just a grind. Minimal strategy required - just make a path from entrance to exit to complete in under 25 Days. Need to kill some monsters to have a few level 13 heroes to enter level 15. Took me 3 attempts - the first was spent figuring out the game since the instructions are poor.

Oh, whoops, I missed the opportunity for shameless self-promotion. Tass, if you’re still reading this thread, check out the badge spreadsheet I’ve been maintaining; the link is here:
http://www.kongregate.com/forums/1-kongregate/topics/126839-badge-spreadsheet?page=1

I usually update every Monday, since I haven’t automated the process yet. If you want the script that directly parses badges.json, let me know and I can upload that.

I’ve been working on grabbing data from Alexa and Quantcast to work on this, but it’s a lot more complicated than it sounds, as you need to account for a parabolic curve where the date of badge release is the turning point. The main factors I have are:

Badge earns over time
Badge release date
Users online each day since badge released
Game plays
Users in total each day since badge released (approx)
Game rating (I thought that this may be a factor, where people go for the badge, despise the game, and quit half-way through. I’m trying to work out how significant it would be though. Remember, game crappiness doesn’t increase the difficulty of a badge)
Number of badge earns in comparison to other badges on the game (If applicable)
Amount of time spent on game per user (I’m not sure if it’s Kong or the developer that can track this, but I know it’s possible, and the data would help so much).

As you can see, it’s very complicated, and I need to fit it in all perfectly to get a single number for difficulty. I think I’m going overboard.

Not really. I can fairly consistently do it in 25 days or less. The trick is to make the shortest levels possible (to save gold to unlock new ones). Although If you can get a couple extra monsters in your path for just a few extra tiles it’s worth it. Oh, and use as few gold bags as possible. Those cost you money whenever an adventurer walks over them.

Yeah, the best option is to just let them find their way out. Don’t worry about them walking on to a trap or something, they are extremely difficult to kill.
