Hi alienadvisor here…

i am getting conflicting accounts as to which browser devotes more time to its FLASH plug in

Which is it, deep down?

1: Internet Explorer
2: Firefox
3: Google Chrome
4: Safari
5: Opera

i know a little tech stuff and i swear that Internet Explorer devotes more time to it FLASH plug in than the others..

any developer who truly knows want to confirm or deny?

The plugins themselves are developed by Adobe (I think!), so the question is: which browsers does Adobe care about?

I think IE, Safari, and Firefox are their top priorities. IE and Safari because IE is the most widely used browser on the web, and Safari because like all tech companies, Adobe is probably filled with Apple geeks who use Safari at work and would want it to work well. Firefox also because a lot of Apple people use FF on their Macs. I don’t know how they feel about Chrome, and from working at Kong I think the majority of our browser issues were with Opera and various Linux browsers including FF on Linux.

Firefox has lower frame rates then IE for some reason, that’s what I have noticed.

It has very little to do with the browser, and more to do with the OS scheduling. Flash runs in a separate thread from the rest of the browser, and it’s up to the OS (not the browser) how often that runs.

Yeah, pick the unsafer, slower (for browsing in general), ugly and not customizable browser out there for a few extra frames on your fps, you’re really smart, go on.

This isn’t a debate about which is a better browser. Its about which is more Flash oriented.

The issue at hand is: Flash sucks. Flash on Linux sucks harder. Flash on windows will get you decent performance across many browsers – so try them all!

We don’t know what your system is like, experiment and report back to us.

It’s not open to debate that IE is far worse than most other browsers, and that’s not subjectivity, there’s facts that prove this such as performance, security, design, etc
Anyways, I was just telling him that he shouldn’t pick IE just to get a few extra frames in his fps, and using IE also lets viruses infect your computer much easier, which might lead the computer to be slower, thus making the flash-plugin performance extremely worse on any browser.

Well, if you bring in that, I could point you to a certain memory leak in FireFox, which after a while steals your performance…

Wow. Ignorant. You can stop telling people about your opinion/facts about IE. We aren’t talking about better browsers, we are talking about better FLASH HANDLING in browsers. And yes, indeed, I believe IE is the fastest in this. For some games it is pretty useful, for example a long game in Onslaught takes up a lot of memory, especially when done in Firefox.
Once again, this isn’t about what browser he should use, it’s about what is the fastest browser for flash. Maybe he won’t use IE only but only for flash?

Which I, and many others, haven’t experienced. I’m currently at 18 tabs and 140mb, which is very reasonable. Also, FWIW, that was for 3.0 – 3.5 had memory usage improvements.

IE may have improved since IE7… But I’m sorry I’ll stick with my Firefox. I’ve had less problems with Firefox than IE and fact of the matter is i do not trust IE. I would like to know more about how Prism may work in comparison to the two for flash if possible though.

My best was 42 tabs I think… Didn’t crash, used 50% of my CPU though…
