They may advertise 17+ games but the ads itself are not 17+.
Advertisements are they sole reason Kongregate is well and alive.

More ads = More money = Better Kongregate.

It also had fewer players, which costs less. Get AdBlock.

In fact, don’t get it. If you want to support Kongregate.
It still doesn’t block the ad campaigns (eq. the L4D2 Fury Month, Dragon Age Forge thing)

YEAH! Ur rite! Fancy kongregate wanting to make profit so they can stay afloat in these economical troubled times! I think its absolutely disgraceful how we should have to put up with these horrific promo events that we can opt out of just so they can stay in the black. THEY SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES for such DISGRACEFUL BEHAVIOUR! you wouldn’t get any other compa- oh. that’s right. Companies do get sponsors, and with a COMMUNITY based website, you get COMMUNITY based promos. Stop complaining, if it bothers you soo much just scream in impotent rage and go back to newgrounds. Pure speculation here, I think the google ads at the top and bottom of the page are mostly pay per click, the money from impressions will be tiny. If you don’t click them anyway blocking them wont deny much revenue. The large ad campaigns (L4D2, DA) are probably paid for in advance so impressions wont count for much there either.
Also, he said that if the ads don’t decrease he will leave. It would be better for Kongregate if he used AdBlock instead of leaving as they negotiate prices with advertisers based on the amount of traffic they get. Less users means lower per click/impression.
In summary, you shouldn’t feel bad about using AdBlock. You’re still contributing to the site by making it’s traffic/userbase higher, and you’ll still have to see the video adverts (probably the most lucrative adverts) before games anyway. If you really feel guilty buy some Kreds instead.

Oh, these ads are horrible, they just sit there doing nothing. Having an empty white space would be much better than having something to fill it.

Not sure where you’ve been lately but quite a lot of the ads here are animated. Having some anime character waving his sword at me to try and entice me into the latest free mmo (no credit card required) is horrible.

In fact, they do get money for ad page impressions, and if you are relatively active this can lead up to a lot. With AdBlock you aren’t really contributing to the site, using server space and CPU.

If you’re really concerned about bankrupting Kongregate because of AdBlock just buy a few Kreds every month like I suggested.

Flashblock gets rid of those – lets you pick which of the Flash animations on a page to play. Assuming they’re Flash (most of the irritating, moving, slowing-down ones are).

I’m not concerned about bankrupting Kongregate, I’m just contributing by doing nothing.

True story, adblock hurts us game devs more than it hurts Kongregate.
Game devs get paid based on ad impressions on our game page only. That MAY be a video ad, but may not. When you block out the banner ads on those pages, you deprive us of our revenue share and make it harder to be a developer.
Kongregate’s revenue page used to display how many gameplays your game had AND how many ad impressions it had, now it just shows gameplays, presumably to offer less confusion between the two numbers that are varied greatly. For games like Pyro and Pyro II, there was a significant difference between the two. Something like 900k gameplays and 600k ad impressions. As far as I can tell, ad blockers are to blame — and obviously we don’t get any share of ads that aren’t viewed… so…
If you care about the people who make the games, I would strongly suggest disabling ad block on the actual game pages.

The ad system would work better if the site didn’t put the game up in the ad space 50% of the time.

Whut. If there is a bug with the ads/game appearing where they should not, put it in the tech forum :/

Considering I’ve reported it like 80 times and have started threads about it, I’m sure they know about it.
