Hi everyone,
I wanted to share some exciting news: Kongregate is being purchased by Modern Times Group (MTG), a Swedish-based entertainment company (you might be familiar with some of MTG's other game-related brands: ESL (eSports), DreamHack, and InnoGames).
My brother Jim and I co-founded Kongregate in 2006 with a mission to help independent game developers succeed, building out an open platform for browser games, with fair treatment and monetization for developers, and lots of social features for players. In July 2010 we were acquired by GameStop, kicking off a partnership that allowed us to make significant investments in the health and growth of the site and company as a whole. (If you’d like a trip in the wayback machine, check out the [announcement](http://www.kongregate.com/pages/kongregate-announcement) we made at that time.)
In 2013, GameStop's backing also allowed us to diversify into the mobile gaming world as a publisher, and we’ve gone on to help bring more than 40 games to mobile, including hits like AdVenture Capitalist, Animation Throwdown, and The Trail, just to name a few. GameStop has been a great parent company, and we’ve flourished under their management, growing every single year. However, as both companies’ strategies continued to evolve, we began to consider whether a different structure might accelerate our growth even further.
As those strategic discussions evolved, MTG emerged as our preferred partner. They share our values and support our mission to nurture the growth of independent game developers and player communities. They are excited about our direction and are uniquely positioned to support us as we continue to push into new and exciting areas of the gaming industry.
Many of you might be asking, “Will this change how Kongregate operates?” It will, but for the better. Partnering with MTG will allow us to accelerate investments into areas we care about most, including expanding our platform engineering resources. We will continue to provide the best support possible to the Kongregate.com community and to our mobile developers and players. We will also continue to grow our Steam portfolio and expand our first-party game development. To support all of the above, Kongregate is hiring; our open positions can be found on our [jobs page](http://www.kongregate.com/pages/jobs).
We deeply appreciate GameStop's support for us and confidence in our vision over the last seven years, and we look forward to even more growth with MTG in the years to come. I also want to say THANK YOU! to all the gamers, developers, and staff who have helped make Kongregate great over the past eleven years. I’m excited to continue this journey and to continue bringing you the very best games no matter where you play.
Emily Greer
CEO & co-founder

No fancy announcement video this time around? The disappointment is real. :'(
On a more serious note, sounds great! Hope to see Kongregate continue to live in the upcoming years as well. :)

Really though - sounds good. I'm not familiar with MTG, but I'm sure it'll work out.

But this ruins the "Blame Gamestop" meme. :'c
I blame MTG!
Actually... This looks like it could be pretty good. Well done!
> **SOURCE: **http://www.pocketgamer.biz/news/66023/modern-times-group-to-acquire-kongregate/
> Modern Times Group has entered a deal to acquire 100% of mobile games publisher Kongregate from current owner GameStop for $55 million.
>
> The acquisition is still subject to regulatory approval and the completion of other closing conditions, and therefore won't close for a few months.
>
> Kongregate is currently on track to generate $50 million in revenues for 2017, with a profit margin of around 10%. The developer is also shifting into developing its own games, and will work with MTG to acquire developers to work under the Kongregate brand.
Wow, nice profits. Good work!

We should have brought Jim back in to do a guest video post. I'm a little more shy about those!

I don't know what it would've been, but I was hoping the news involved a different MTG entirely.

Yes, Kongregate is being owned by Magic the Gathering now. With the mobile market rising, they are switching everything over to mobile where you're going to need to tap everything to be able to use it.

As. Per your annoucment please see email I have sen. To ceo of gamestop which. I will also. Now forward to ceo of MTG
Good afternoon,
My name is Jamie and I'm based in the UK, I play online game called animation throwdown run by kongregate.
My background is I'm a big spender on this game and constantly buy into the game to compete at the top level, I also often take advantage of the offerwall run by supersonic, and thats where my concern lies.
It seems as tho your company are happy to take my money but refuse to pay on free offers, during my time playing this game I've been refused over 12,000 in game gems for wrongful reasons, most of them are install and run an app or complete a certain level to receive the rewards, these often get refused as supersonic say I haven't meet the requirements, no matter how much proof shows that the requirements were full filled as per the advisers offer, the evidence I send on each occasion 100% proves I full filled the requirements, now I am often told that the advertiser has the final say and their decision can not be over turned, and that if rewards are not paid out means kongregate haven't been paid either, now I had a situation where an advitisor refused to pay out but supersonic emailed me to say as a one off they will pay the reward, thus proving supersonic lied in saying they can't overturn an advitisors final decision, it's also come to light that in actual fact kongregate do get paid for their advertisement even if the player doesn't get paid their rewards, which means more profit margin for kongregate and fraud against the player, there have been a few lies that kongregate have told the community which they have been caught out on by the community and we are not happy in the slightest and this lie to add on top of it, in respect of the game I like I have brought this recent lie to yourself before making it public to the community, I'm also drafting up every piece of evidence I have for wrongful refusal of offers completed as per your advertisement which I will be sending to Google and apple to show how their users are being treated, I've I had no luck rectifying my concerns with either kongregate or supersonic, until my concerns are rectified I won't be spending a penny more on the game, if the evidence I have goes public to the community I'm sure more will follow, my animation throwdown account details are as follows
In game name - jamiel

I eh...
...this doesn't seem very relevant to the topic. But I still feel the need to say that Kong does _not_ manage these ads and that you _can_ file a report if you didn't get your rewards.
