One day in chat we were deciding who would be a good moderator. I suggested we make a thread to see what you all think. Many users agreed and so this thread was born. Be sure to give a description of why that user should be a moderator. If you remember the time that said user has helped you, please, also post it.
No way, Jude. A present brazilian moderator is desperately needed; we don’t have any and the br chats sometimes seem anarchic with all the foul language and such. As a brazilian, I can say that sometimes I end up just changing rooms because of all that happens…
Have you guys ever thought of assigning language-specific moderators?

There are plenty of english moderators, but the need for foreign language moderators has been noticed.

The moderator suggestion thread already exists. Feel free to bump it:
> Bleh, we have waaay too many moderators :(
No, we just have too many in The Lair. But moderators are users too, and I don’t want to discourage people from hanging out and chatting with their friends, so I might sometimes err on the side of more moderators rather than too few — assuming that moderator drama is causing me less trouble than unmoderated users (though both groups have been behaving pretty well lately).
Damn, just discovered I don’t know how to quote :P
dazzer: That function would only be helpful for english-speaking users. I know the site is in english, so the user should be able to communicate in that language, but all I see in brazilian chats (remember that I’m talking as a br, but I think French, Turkish, Spanish and German chats work out the same way – correct me if I’m wrong) is a lot of users that barely speak english. There would be nothing a moderator could do if he was called by a brazilian, speaking in portuguese and complaining about foul language used in portuguese by another user who barely speaks english himself. Conversations about different forms of fornication (hate this word, but I would probably be banned if I used the harsh ones, right? :P) and pornographic sites are not something uncommon in br chat, and it goes on even if other users ask people to stop…
Don’t know about other language specific communities, but the br one is growing fast recently. I think now is time to embrace these people, to make them stay in. Things like enabling the use of accents in chat (I personally miss them when speaking in portuguese. French people must suffer even more) and censoring foul language – like it was done with the english words -, plus adding some present moderators that know how to communicate with both parts on the tale – the gamers and you guys – would be great improvements imho.
Notorious, I can confirm that something similar to that is happening in Stolz.
It experienced a massive growth recently, I remember reading my “Good Night” about 12 hours after posting it, since only two messages have been posted in those 12 hours. It’s actually possible to start a conversation in here nowadays. I still see more Germans in English speaking rooms, though, I suppose that’s partially due to the lack of moderation (I don’t know if Umlauts play too much of a big role, but it’s annoying to constantly do silly looking constructions).
I never had too much problems with spam or profanities in there, though. If anyone decides to go trolling in the channel, chances are there’s no moderator to do anything about it, and those who don’t know of/want to use the mute button tend to leave.
Two times I entered the chat, the last five messages were the word “hooker” and stuff like “hook” and “er” seperated. I have no idea how long this had been going, or if the person who did it had any reason to, so It wouldn’t have been too wise to ban them.
The only two German moderators I know of are Koko and myself, but Koko’s main channel is the Lair, and I’m split between the Van and Stolz, so the room is not moderated at all most of the time.
About the filters: A simple KoL-like spam filter that prevents one from posting the same message twice would be nice to have. Word filters can backfire. It’s always possible that some strange swear word of one language is a perfectly valid word in another one, so words might get filtered out for no reasons. Sily example: A chat didn’t want to let me say “Pizzeria” once, it thought I would be trying to bypass the filtered word “Pisser” for some reason. Took me ages to figure that out.
