1. I love Kong and I think what you guys do is great, but Nonoba seems to be ahead of you guys with their multiplayer API and a huge contest/free hosting. Is having a single player game on Kong, with a button for multiplayer that opens nonoba a big problem to you? (Sorry if this question is dumb, I am really dense sometimes, I know they are a rival)

2. This might not even be a good idea too but we were discussing ways to get more gameplays and I thought offering a small cash prize(s) for high scores through the MochiAds leader board thing might be worth it. I doubt you would give us emails, but would Kong be willing to send out a few to winners? I guess we could depend on the shouts system and if people don’t claim the prize it is their fault.

Thanks!

i’m not sure about this, but one thing,no free game site is ahead of kongregate as kong was nominated the best free game site in webby awards 2008

What mistress said.

Kongregate does have multiplayer games if you know where to find them. I also agree that there’s no point in having cash prizes for high scores as, not only are they easily hacked, but that they wouldn’t be as deserving as the developers. After all, you’re just playing the game. The developer made it. Without the developer, you wouldn’t be playing it at all! Right? :3

Yeah… that’s basically what I said… I was editing my post when my session crapped out and my post was deleted. Forums are still acting weird for me.

I agree that I much rather have the developers get money than the players, it makes them want to make good games and get good ratings.

Like everyone said, Kongregate is much better. But if you prefer Nanoba, what can I say?

To answer your question. YES. As long as you have an actually game, and not just an advertisement, you can submit it. In fact, this is almost the same as branding, and most games here have that.

Kongregate is developing a multiplayer API.

Our plan is to finish our card game first, and the use that as a basis for the API. We’re hoping mid-summer, maybe late summer.

I know where to find the multiplayer games >.> I don’t know when Kong’s multiplayer API will be out but nonoba’s beta is starting in less than a week. Trust me, I am not badmouthing Kong, I love what they are doing. I just want to know what their policy is on redirecting to a rival site is.. they still get the initial user impressions. I might be able require a certain amount of single player here until the link shows up too.

I know people can hack scores, but the Mochi leader board allows you to delete scores that are obviously out of line with what is possible. I also have some ways I am not discussing about a second layer of verification. It isn’t 100% foolproof maybe, but I can try my best.

After all, you’re just playing the game. The developer made it. Without the developer, you wouldn’t be playing it at all! Right? :3

Hmm? I am developing the game. It is just an idea I am throwing out there as a way to get more gameplays if people try for the prize. If there are 2 games you already enjoy, are you going to play the one with or without incentive? The big problem maybe is that this might not increase revenue as much since only the few very best will have a chance.

But if you prefer Nanoba, what can I say?

I didn’t say that. I never said that their API would end up being better either, just that it is going to be out first and they offer free hosting (multiplayer requires servers, unlike single player you just upload to Kong). There are lots of sites out there.. I hate newgrounds but we will still put games up there because we are out to make money, remember?

Well, what happens with the people who beat a score by 1 point, within the realm of legitimacy? How could you keep that from happening?

That is covered somewhat by my second layer of verification, which I won’t discuss so as to hopefully not compromise the system =)

Again, I don’t know if the traffic generated will even be worth doing this. It is just something that came to mind today. I doubt the top prize could be $50, if even that and the effort required to “hack the system” probably isn’t worth it.

edit: I just thought of another way to discourage hackers and be more average-user-centric, as well as tie into other monetization systems. Don’t worry, if it happens it will be fun and good for people on Kong, not a whinefest about hackers. I think they are as lame as you guys. Ok, that sounded wrong but you know what I mean

I’m kind of confused when people say multiplayer API. Is that like they host the multiplayer servers for everyone?

I’m pretty interested in the Nonoba API too. From what I’ve read though, you won’t actually need to redirect people there to make multiplayer work. The lobby system and frontend will have Nonoba branding, but it’s not at all uncommon to upload games featuring a competing site’s logos and links.

garin: I just remembered Nonoba and found out about this today. It is quite possible I misunderstood how it works. I remember it says “embed” on other sites and it will still work, but I didn’t view a game uploaded to Kong as being embedded. Got me. If the lobby is like a second Kong lobby, taking up space on the right that would suck too, but I hope not. I haven’t ever heard Kong say that they are going to host games, so I was happy to read this. Including the branding is reasonable.
