Report users to allow the administration to rectroactively punish misbehaving users and flag unruly posts to help forum moderators.

If you want someone reading this to help you out, maybe you should be more specific. Like telling telling them the forums/chat rooms your having a problem with.
Maybe PM one of the [Global Mods](http://www.kongregate.com/accounts/GlobalModfriend) to help you.

The thing is, everyone thinks that they would be a better moderator or owner than someone else, but these people care enough about the site to get involved and to try and make a difference. Unlike many peopple here, instead of complaining about others on here they go out and help fix your problems.
Instead of complaining about them, try helping them out.

And that’s when they say “leave it to the mods, just ignore the trolls,” etc. If you think being a mod is just about caring and sharing, I’m afraid you’ll be ground down very quickly.

It’s true, you have to think about what is good about trying to keep the room happy for everyone, not just what you want or think the room should behave. Many people are quick to jump the gun when it comes to deciding what a mod should do when someone is misbehaving, but you have to give them a chance to know what they are doing is not well received by most other users and explain to them why.

The best way it was described to me is this: “Don’t ask to be a moderator. Be so awesome that Kongregate wants you to be a moderator.”
But at the same time, be awesome because you actually are, don’t be fake.
[Edit: Also, while something like spelling is nice, it’s not a quality that is necessarily applicable. Also, being a moderator would allow you to act on chat room issues, not in-game stuff. If you’re having issues with CS Portable (I assume that’s what you mean when you say “Counter Strike” then the best way to handle the in-game issue(s) is to post [here](http://www.kongregate.com/forums/186/topics/303351).]
[Edit2: Double posting doesn’t help your case, it just seems spammy.]

I honestly don’t understand why this topic is still relevant. Actively trying to become a mod is not the way to go about it. This whole thing could just be renamed ‘How to be a good user’ and that’s basically my point I’m just being nit-picky.

LOL, was that seriously a thing in 2007? Oh man… I can imagine the confusion caused by that.

It’s not entirely, because the process has changed quite a bit since it started (people used to sometimes get modded for asking nicely, now that’s considered a deterrent). The best way to try to become a mod has been, and remains to be, not to try to become a mod, just let what happens happen, and enjoy yourself (you’re here to have fun, if you’re spending your time worrying about all of the mean people out there, then you’re probably not having the most fun).
But yes, this really does seem more like a guide on how to be a good user (though I’d say it’s a guide on how to just be a user, since these are all things that people should be doing anyways, not just the good ones, since society nowadays seems to occasionally glorify people for doing good when they’re really just doing what should be expected of them).

That’s still how it works, if you’re typing a paragraph and hit enter twice it’ll put a line break in between the two paragraphs (it’s the Textile equivalent of the “br” HTML tag). A line break isn’t the same as a horizontal line to divide paragraphs (as I used above, which has been a sequence of three characters, I’m not sure of the limitations, but it can be \*\*\* or --- in textile, and “hr” in HTML).
