kongregate needs an upgrade, cuz sometimes people finishes a badge before they were released,so they dont get the badge and have to do it all over again…..wat do u think?

I actually support this idea. We’re currently discussing the possibility of doing it. But no promises yet.
We wouldn’t need to check your saved game (nor would we even be able to); we’d just check which stats you already sent to us by playing a game with our API. |
yes |
This is a completely different thing then what is being discussed, and if you’d bother to search, you’d see there is a way to transfer save data from site to site. |
yes this is a big problem espicilly with the impossible badges |
Agreed although it would be weird if you go to bed one night and wake up having another 300 points and level up from the badges |
Just more incentive to play games even without badges, right? You’d never know when they could be added and you’ll get free points. It might help me out for testing/balancing, too. Right now it’s hard for me to convince people to try to play games that will get badges soon to help me figure out what the badge should be. Maybe I’d get more people to participate if they knew there was a possibility of retroactive badges being awarded. |
That would be good. I personally just go to the badge page to play games. I will now try to start playing mroe games. BTW, is it possible to set like a limit so anyone who has above a set score doesn’t get the badge? because i am tired of all of those 99999999 scores. |
I agree that this is an excellent idea. However, don’t some games already do this? I know with Monster’s Den: Book of Dread, when the challenge came up, I started the game and was rewarded with the card and two badges instantly. (That was a pretty cool surprise) In the meantime, if you have “lost” a badge this way, is there some procedure you can go through to get it without repeating the game? I know I completed Hedgehog Launch in 4 days, in a total luck-out that I will most likely never be able to repeat, the day before the badge came out XD |
Don’t forget the API. And not every game has a save file that record your process or high score…... |
Hey Greg, would it be possible to do that with cards to? like lets say you need to beat lvl 3 of ? then you just check on API |
Though in a way this would ruin some people’s chance to enjoy getting the badges when their released. I can understand epic hard games that someone would play for fun, then there file gets erased or something when a badge comes out. They would be able to get there badge right away. Personally i would hate just click on a game then i already have the badge for it just because I’ve played it a week ago. |

I plan it this way whenever possible, and I also encourage developers to submit stats in such a way that makes this possible. In games that don’t save your progress, though, the only way for a developer to do this is to pull stats from our high scores list, then send them back to us. I’m not even sure if this is possible, but I do know that not a single developer has actually attempted it. I’m talking about having our system look at high scores directly to decide whether someone gets a badge, so games like Hedgehog Launch could award badges to people who completed the task before the badges were added. |
What would happen if you beat a game when the developer hasn’t added the API yet? If they add it after you beat the game, you wouldn’t get the points. |
Is there really any way to fix that? |
I personally know that I stopped playing games that don’t have save files, because of the fear that they might get a badge in the future and I’ll have to do it all over again.
Aren’t the high scores sort of… Hackable? |
They don’t suddenly become unhackable when the game gets badges, you know. |
To hack the highscore you need to hack the same stat ingame so it doesnt make a difference whether you are looking at the highscores or at the ingame stat, hackers will still get the badges. |
I’ve never had this problem with games that save like sonny, when I came back on kong one day and it had badges I just started playing and got the badges without having to do it again. But for other games this is a problem. |
If there’s no save file, that’s correct. There isn’t anything we can do about that.
No more than badges themselves.
Those other games are what we’re talking about. |
My point wasn’t that you can hack to get the badge, it was that if you hacked a game in the past and then that game got a badge, you will get the badge automatically. |
How is that different from hacking a badge once it’s released? |
Well… Right now it requires extra hacking. They’ll have to hack again to get the badge. I’m just thinking of all those hacked high scores in games. I always see them in games even before they had badges. So all I’m saying is that they don’t necessarily hack the game in order to get a badge… But if it will be taken from the high scores they are assured one if a badge will be released. It just seems like an incentive for those people to hack the high scores, to me. |
...not really. The people that only hack for badges will still wait for the badges to be released (because otherwise you’re still wasting time hacking games that don’t get you points, right?), while the ones that simply hack for highscores…well, they do that anyway. |
I just want to jump in and ask a question again that sort of goes along with this discussion. Lets say greg’s idea gets put into practice, and kong is now looking at the high scores directly. Can’t we add in the ability to test those scores for legitimacy? Theoretically, it would work the same way as a badge, only the badge settings would actually be impossible to get legitimately (not to be confused wit the [nearly] impossible badges we have now). It would require a little more info to kong from the game’s creator, and maybe more testing but it doesn’t sound extremely hard (IMHO XD) |
