Kongregate API

There are too many bad games being uploaded. A great example is Mibbster2. His latest game has about 15 words and a bunch of circles you can move around. Also, alot of games are being stolen. Bad designers and game theives do not know how to put the api in, so my suggestion is that the API is mandatory when uploaded. This will also make it, so games like bowmaster prelude, a popular game with no api, will be uploaded WITH the api, so that way they can have badges, and it makes less confusion for people that dont understand it doesnt have api, ,and then there’s actually a POINT to rating the game high, so that it will get badges.

I wish I understood this. But sure, I guess, maybe.

That might result in people stealing the game and uploading it WITH the API. Might do more damage than good…

I have to admit that I’m also tired of all the maze games or “click the button as many times as you can” or stuf that isn’t really games but some sort of drawing tool, especially since a lot of people don’t vote on what they consider poor games anymore now that the limit has been introduced, I’m making a guess here but I’d say that the average score for the game probably increased in the last few weeks (heck, today I saw a game with 42 ratings on page 8 of latest games). Requesting API, however, is likely to discourage a lot of developers from Kongregate, some can’t and many probably don’t want to add it, bomwaster prelude probably wouldn’t be reuploaded with the API, it would simply be removed. Also, those maze games probably have fans of their own and Kongregate was defined as “youtube for games” which means it’s open to anyone and not some small elite group of high quality developers (sad as it is). As a final note, if a game has high score but no API Kongregate staff will often contact the developer asking them if they could add it so the game can get badges.

You cannot force everyone to implement the API. It’s just not reasonable and Illucoran covered some of the points why.

The rating system is there to handle game quality concerns.

well at least could kong remove SOME of the games? cuz theyre annoying seeing like the whole “show recent” games where you push a button once or its a movie, etc. tehre should be like guidelines for uploading, like it must be this many frames, and have that many actions or osmething.

The point of Kongregate is that it is the Youtube of Flash Games. Does Youtube remove videos because they’re plain stupid?

If they break the rules or are not games and don’t serve any use; they are removed. Otherwise, it’s the communities responsibility to bury them.

Though I would enjoy a blam-like feature similiar to newgrounds to where we could get something off the site that isn’t a game without admin intervention.

I don’t agree with this. I don’t think you are forced to play crappy games… in fact, if you are rating for the points, they are shorter and easier to rate.

By the way, there isn’t an API for Shockwave games yet.

@ aC: I’m not on newsgrounds and I don’t really know how the blam system works but I imagine you mean something “user governed”. Considering what’s been happening on the forums recently I’d hate to bring this into any discussion but I can only imagine what would happen to Runescape…

And “crappy games” were mostly removed by being voted below the rating of 2, right now this doesn’t happen so often because, like I pointed earlier, many people only vote on games they think are “worth” their vote since the limit was introduced.
