For the record, I am not likely to be Mod because I am an asshole, especially when I lose respect for the people that I have to interact with. I have decided to inform the noobs and morons, as well as anyone else that dosen’t fit into those categories, that happens to stumble onto this page.
Why you don’t want to be a mod.
When I was a Mod for wikipedia (yes a mod, not a user that made edits, a Mod) I learned that being a mod has some unintended consequences.
1) Whining, Begging, Stupidity: This one is obvious, there are a whole lot of people that don’t have the qualifications to be a mod, yet believe that if they ask, beg, or threaten a mod, it will somehow help them. I recieved about 200 messages every week, and some of my friends in the mod community had five times that. As for the stupidity, read what people post in discussion pages. Lots of people have opinions, but I only will accept opinions based on fact, not rumor or emotion. Feel free to disagree with me, just make sure you know what you’re talking about.
2) Workload: Yes wikipedia is different, but the workload of a mod is higher than expected. A mod, or at least a good one, must be ready to be called upon at any time that they are online. Yeah, that game you were playing, well someone just whispered you that an idiot is spewing racial slurs in some chatroom. Yeah, hope that game has a pause!
3) LEGAL: Yeah, before you sign up to be a mod, keep in mind that legally, things you see might be needed by the government. I for one, had to testify, along with three other mods, against a user that commited several felonies over the internet. The secret service has no issues using testimony of Mods in cases of fraud and identity theft. And i’ve seen activities in the chatrooms here that could lead to identity theft. Seriously people, stop answering personal questions. Spaced out over a week, anyone could ask enough questions to find out your identity, and from there, with your IP adress, he can be into your computer getting the rest of your life… |

Well, the way I see it, no matter how bad the consequences of Modship are, at least you are helping out the community.
And there are half of the population that want to be mods, and half that don’t. So you may get mixed responses here. |

Takes time away from game making…
Mods make no money. I DO!!
:D
Edit: Also, anyone who WANTS to be a Mod should automatically be disregarded. The dumb ones want it for the wrong reason, and the smart ones know that they shouldn’t say they wanted it. |

1. People complain about you and everything else.
2. It’s time consuming, for the good ones at least.
3. It’s free work for no pay.
4. People are constantly asking you to be made a mod, like you could do that anyway.
So as far as I can see, being a mod would not be preferable to just being a regular player. |

The Complain part is probably the most unappealing. Just 30 mins ago, there was an issue by 1 Kyd against Mod Fuzz… |

Might be slightly preferable to a REGULAR player… but I’m tellin you, compare to a Developer and its no contest. D’s get the money, they get tons of fans and people that wanna either be in a game or want to help make one, and are the driving force behind this entire site! |

I help out the community by answering questions and summoning mods when the need arises. If we all work togther, we don’t NEED more mods.
Also, I would accept the position of mod ONLY if I was asked to. When the staff asks people, then they really need us. I will answer the call, as I have the experiance to do it.
Thankfully though, they don’t seem to be asking. |

Not true. I’m a God AWFUL Developer and Ive netted $98 to date from all my games. Thats just from game plays and ad clicks. Add in the $400 from weekly/monthly contests and thats REALLY good!
Want to get a rough estimate on how much money a game has, it’s about $1 for every 1000 game plays. |

AngryCyc, being a Developer Might be slightly preferable to a MODERATOR… but I’m tellin you, compare to an Admin and its no contest. K’s get more money, they get even more fans and people that wanna either be a mod or want to help improve the site, and are the creators of this entire site! |

Dude you cant make me compare D’s to K’s.
Thats like an argument over whether Boy scouts or Eagle scouts is cooler… and then saying that being a robot ninja pirate raptor sniper is better. Of COURSE it is! There was no question there! |

Well, I think the only reason NUT earned you so much money was because you were the first to put it in game form. Without any disrespect, I think it doesn’t really deserve a rating that rivals Notissemo, and Punkomatic.
And, no disrespect, NUT2 was unnecessary.
Anyway, sorry for straying off topic. XO |

That’s kind of a catch-22 though. I like the wording in the help pages:
Demonstrating a zealousness in promoting yourself to a moderator position will likely disqualify yourself entirely, as it makes us question both your motives and your maturity level.
I mean, if they offer you a mod position, and you say yes, you obviously want the position (at least on some level.) |

1. I’d probably let the power go to my head and ban people who are having conversations that I don’t care to participate in or want to listen to anymore although no one is breaking the behavior policies. |
