It’ll be in the new Warlords, but the API doesn’t currently report episodes completed retroactively. So if you finish an episode and I put a challenge up, or if you finish an episode during a connection problem, then you’re screwed. I want to allow players to simply be able to load up the game again. It’s a pretty standard sort of “safety net” that I require now whenever I can. Not sure on Jack, but I’ll put a badge up for Duck, Think Outside the Flock for now! |

I beleive it says 6 more hours until the new event is released which for me would be 3:40 AM. The announcement of it being released tomorrow isn’t a surprise. >.> No really, what time tomorrow will it be released? |

i dont understand why games that werent just uploaded today and have working api are being overlooked once again. and why do you keep giving this guy badges? all three of his games have had api issues. obviously he sucks at coding it correctly. why reward him for this again and again? |

While I respect your decision, greg, I cannot help but wonder whether giving badges to a blatant repainting of Achilles is a nice idea considering Achilles already got badges and a sweepstakes ticket for that week. It is of little concern though, I’ve come across lots of “get card/badge(s) and move on” games and this is no different. =x |

Be fair… it’s the mutant child of Achilles and Warlord: Call to Arms. I mean, it’s a better game than either of them by themselves… but the normal campaign is a bit long. I’m holding off on beating episode 4 until it has badges, but the 1st 3 took a decent bit of time. ~14-15 in-game days for each of the 1st 3 episodes. |

I’m assuming he would have badged the earlier qualified games if he could have. I also recall he made a very long post in another thread giving the reasons for each and every one of the badges he missed. Maybe do some research before jumping on the overworked guys back? |

It’s a solid contender for Thursday’s challenge.
Heroes has a really high rating; if it were uploaded a month ago, it would be long overdue. My priorities go by rating more than by seniority. And I request API changes with most games. The API in Heroes technically works fine; I just want it to report a sort of “backup” stat for people who already made progress and people who might make progress during connection problems. This isn’t something that I would’ve demanded a year ago; I’ve just gotten pickier in my quest to have as few badge problems as possible on the site.
Ben put a ton of work into Heroes beyond just repainting Achilles. I question how much of both games you’ve played.
A reason for me doing this is to prevent people from not playing games because they’re holding out for badges later. If it were up to me, every time I added badges to a game, our system would just pull existing high scores and award badges instantly to everyone who’s already qualified. This just isn’t technically possible, so instead I go to great lengths to ensure that people who’ve already achieved a task will be rewarded for that task after minimal (or no) effort once a badge/challenge is added. Heroes is an example of this. Ideally, if you complete the whole game and Ben changes the API, you’ll only need to load up the game to be fully rewarded. I don’t like people having to replay something they’ve already done just to get badges that were added later, and I don’t like people avoiding games because they think badges will come later and they don’t want to have to redo it. I really am working with developers whenever possible to accomplish these goals.
Because there are other games with higher ratings, and while I can’t deny giving some preference to Kongregate-sponsored games, I don’t want to do it to such an extent that sacrifices the user experience (by having challenge games that aren’t rated as highly as non-sponsored options). ColourPod 2 is right on the edge, though, and I think it’s likely to be chosen for Thursday’s challenge.
Thanks for the support, though in a few others’ defense, I did list ColourPod 2 on there as being something I didn’t have a reason not to badge/feature. I actually spent about an hour today playing through Telepath RPG Chapter 2 with the intention of having it be the challenge, but I decided that it probably wouldn’t make a good challenge game when I noticed that, after a full hour of playing, it still hadn’t submitted a single stat. Maybe for badges soon, though… |
