I interpreted “don’t cover up” as don’t put key elements of your image in a place where they will be obscured by the user info tab or the user/game count text. I suppose they could live with having an inaccurate(static) user/game count for a day (or however long the header is going to be up), but there’s no reason to include a gray rectangle in your image where the user info tab is overlaid.

Well, my only complaint is that the “Kongregate” text is to high up… it just looks like it’s floating in mid-air.

New edit: Kong has landed…

I was torn at first, but I’m liking the grounded better. I think this is my final edit unless there are any glaring errors.

Ah, bob, I like the grounded Kong much more. Final edit = win, IMO.

Part of my idea was the limited color scheme for a more noir, creepy look. And if I keep going back and editing I’ll be reposting in this thread forever.

My take on the header:

I hope my little modifactions don’t exlude me. In fact: I moved the counter somewhere else, to not overlap the whole thing. The overlapping gravestone is intended but can be changed or faked by making the background look like the signin area, so this shouldn’t be a KO-criteria.
After I finished the header I experimented a bit to have something looking similar to the nice backgrounds on the labs:
