Create your own badge graphics!

Sometimes, while making badges, I’ll spend way too much time trying to find a good graphic. Sometimes that’s nearly impossible (Particles), and other times I’m left thinking, “Meh, that looks kind of lame, but I’ve already spent too much time on this, so I’ll just replace it with a better one later.” Sadly, in reality, this doesn’t happen very often.

So here’s your chance to do free labo-, I mean, to help out! Is there a particular badge image that you find really lame, which you would like to see changed? Well, now’s your chance! Simply make a better one (it’s easy—screenshot and crop!), post it here, and maybe (just maybe), I’ll consider replacing a few of the current badge images with user-submitted ones.

For your image to qualify, it should be at least 60×60 pixels (but it can be much, much larger, as our system scales them down automatically), and it should preferably have a bit of a border around it, as our badge overlay graphic tends to chop off about 8 pixels from each edge.

Now let’s see what you guys can come up with…

I don’t want old badges to be changed. I think it’s better to request a graphic for a game you are going to put a badge, so they are user-made and no replaced.

By border I mean keep in mind that the edges will be cut off by the badge border overlay thing, so just make sure that the main focal point is near the middle with a good chunk of “filler” graphics around the edges. Also keep in mind that these will get scaled down a lot. Taking those two points into consideration, this is what Sylicas’s graphic would look like as a badge:

I like unproductives’ badges, That sniper badge is cool but kind of hard to see and noskill Yours is Awesome!

Unproductive’s images look great, but they don’t work so well as badges. Here’s what they would look like, as well as noskill’s:

So the first thing is happening here is that the tops and bottoms are getting chopped off, since our system automatically converts rectangles to squares (yes, I know squares are rectangles, but you get what I mean). The second thing that’s happening is that they’re being shrunk down. Finally, the third thing that’s happening is that the borders around the images are being covered up by the badge border. This is why I would like to again emphasize that images should have “filler” around the edges that you don’t mind having covered up.

I may consider toying around with unproductive’s images, though, as I like them a lot better than the current badges.

For example, take the Bloons badge. Here’s the original image I used (note how there’s a lot of crap that I don’t want to be in the actual badge, but I know it’ll just be covered up):

big problem with the first fold badge. It’s black and white, no matter what. So the only way to tell if you have gotten it is by rolling over it or by the gold boundary.
