any news/date ?
btw, 24fps is cool but if you set your game to 24fps in the flash API, it will be like 20 or less on Kong and some game could be lagging a little. I think 30 fps would make it better no ?

Any idea when the contest will start?

Hopefully soon, Indie. Sorry about the wait; I know your game has been ready for a long time…

No worries, Greg, I’m just being impatient ;) Anyway this will give me time to work up some more games for the contest…

More time is good for me ! :D

ya umm there is this game called balloon popper but instead i made it fish popper but it uses the mouse is it excaptable?

ok every 1 since its gonna be more time every 1 breath in your nose (sniffs) and exhale through your mouth (ahhhs)

4 secs seems okay to me. I think it’s sort of the point to pare the time right down.

warioware uses the touchscreen though – so you can get much more input in the time than you can with buttons.

Also, it has a few seconds before the game starts telling you what to do. “Coins in” is the one I remember. I only saw a brief glimpse of it on demo at the shop, but I think that may be quite critical.

Similarly, when the game is over wasn’t there often a short animation?

If you do have a short lead-in time, you could allow for any input technique – mouse, arrow keys, keyboard – which could give a bit more variety. But paradoxically for this to be effective you’d probably need some standard way of reporting the control scheme.

250k is really quite large. You wouldn’t need very many of those to start pushing the boundaries of acceptable size… wouldn’t something like 50k be a good idea?

No music – no sound effects?

How many entries can we make each? And can we win multiple times?
Also, I think all the entries should be revealed at once in a batch if possible, rather than going through the normal submission proces.

And a pragmatic concern – how are you going to patch these together? If you don’t specify the structure, people will be publishing for all different versions of flash, using different ways of writing their game (code in movieclips, using _root, wierd classes…) and so on. To this end I think vynx’s suggestion of a framework to fit into is a really good idea.

b34sty_p4t decided to dig it up for some reason, even though it’s over a year old.

So while this topic is resurrected, whatever happened to the contest?

Flag Post

resurrect!

yeah i know what are we doing, just remembering the good minigames in past four second flash games, we are here because of one thing that makes a different in four second gaming, we have user submitted games!!!!!!!! now go my pretties, make some hawt games!

The contest was canceled for various reasons. Sorry guys! Especially sorry to Indie, who actually made a minigame, which was actually pretty good…

Flag Post

Crud. I was actually thinking that this might be a good way to get me to try a flash tutorial. I certainly could learn some things and enter for cash, if it wasn’t totally cancelled.

Flag Post

Well, if Kong won’t do it, then why don’t the user’s make one independent of Kong! Sure, no cash prizes, but we could still do it. Post if you think we should!

Flag Post

Lol yeah. User FSF/Warioware! Includes mouse!

(As a fundraiser for Kong, duh)

Flag Post

Including mouse could be difficult. Either all mouse or no mouse I would think. Or perhaps, we could use WASD and space, and still use both. But we would also have to take the left handers into consideration.

Flag Post

Duh! I fell for that one didn’t I?
I even saw it started at the end of Jan, but missed the year transition

…So yeah, maybe we could do one in any case. I’m quite tempted to do one by myself.

Try messaging him, even though he won’t see it, rather than bump this.

But bumping it lets other people see there was a contest canceled that way they can bitch about it too.

That was so long ago, nobody cares now.
