As pointed out before by notorius, Sinner and xklamation in this topic, I think it is important to create a language filter, similar to the already existing in English, for other languages. I don’t know if it’s possible, but limiting the filters to the rooms of corresponding language would be good, because sometimes a word in a particular language may be similar to a curse word in other languages, thus limiting the comunication in some languages.
I’m Brazilian, and I would gladly help with a list of curse words in Portuguese – which might also be useful to delete some tags.
Just as a side note, I personally don’t mind unfiltered chat, and actually prefer it. However, I understand not all people feel this way, and I think it would be very coherent with the attitude of the site to have filters in all languages that have a specific room. Perhaps you could also create a “not filter chat” option, so each person can decide on their own, or create a room for unfiltered chat. |

I agree. Every time I see users saying bad things in the chat. But, I think the “not filter chat” isn’t a good idea and a little hard to do. |

Kannushi_Link, we have this problem too. In portuguese, we need special characters to chat and the kongregate don’t accept they. |

Kong would be soooo much cooler if we were able to use accents and “ç” on chat!
A filter would be nice too. As Primo, I really don’t mind unfiltered chat, but it’s not everyone who thinks like that. If you guys would like, just let us know and we’ll put our cuss-word knowledge to the test to help you create the filter. :P |

Yeah, filter please.
We can’t use accents (á, é, í, ó, ú) or Ñs in spanish. We need moar character compatibility. The “¬” is needed for sarcasm face!
I see that happens in Portuguese and Chinese, too. |

It isn’t impossible use the accents. You can use the Numerical HTML Entities . But it’s TOO boring typing those codes. |

Getting Back to the Point
Language filter in non-English chat rooms
When I gave the suggestion, for the Portuguese/Brazilian Language filter I thought of it as to filter out explicit, sexual oriented content and strong language. This kind of foul language is used regularly by some less inconsiderate members in the chat room Orgulho in spite of other users’ age and/or values. To give you an example, I was thinking more in terms of what’s done already for the English Language and what can be done for its counterparts, like you can’t say F..k in a chat window, therefore you shouldn’t be able to say similarly F...-.E in Portuguese. It’s just vulgar and rude.
Though the Portuguese and the Brazilian Languages differ in some ways these are all part of our slang and can be with ease avoided with a filter.
That’s all. |

I agree with the idea of filter for non-english rooms. Since there is no moderators for those rooms, it’s really hard to have a good conversation.
I know where to find an txt file with some of the words, in the client of Ragnarok Online. The manner.txt have lot’s of those words in different ways.
And for the accents in chat, I agree with the idea. |

If you allow special characters, you need to stop the english words as well.

I agree. But it really doesn’t matter, you can’t even put å, ä, or ö to chat. |

Actually Juze you can put å, ä, or ö in a chat, just use the appropriate code for it. Take a look here Códigos Html para alfabeto latino/Html Codes for Latin alphabet.
Sinner: Could you give me a link to manner.txt please? Just interested to see how they have done it.
Frankly, I don’t know if this HTML codes and the language specific filters are possible/easy to implement or if the Kong administrators are concerned about this situation at all…
Obviously the best is to have in each room a language specific filter,
meanwhile it would be nice to have all the language filters done and uploaded.
Subsequently we could post the links here, and discuss the many points regarding each language. As I stated previously, I’m willing to do the Portuguese side of a PT-BR Filter to be.
Kind Regards, X. from Lisbon |
